To calibrate a Samsung monitor, first identify its exact model, then use the picture controls in that model’s manual to set a suitable image for your room and intended use. For more consistent color, manage a matching display profile in Windows; for HDR on an external display, use Windows 11’s separate HDR Calibration app. Samsung’s menus and supported calibration features vary by model, so there is no reliable universal set of menu steps or numeric values.
Before you adjust anything, identify the display and goal
Write down the full Samsung model code, the input connected to your computer, and whether you want to tune standard dynamic range (SDR) or high dynamic range (HDR). Also note your operating system and whether the monitor is used for general desktop work or color-critical work such as photo editing.

Use the manual for that exact model to find its picture menu and any reset or default option. Menu labels, available controls, and what each picture mode allows you to change differ between monitors. Do not assume that instructions for another Samsung model apply to yours.

Adjust the monitor’s picture controls for your use
Start with a neutral or standard picture mode if your manual identifies one as appropriate. Set brightness to a comfortable level for your room and work, then adjust other controls only when you understand their effect. Disable dynamic picture effects only if your model provides them and doing so suits your use; they are not a universal calibration requirement.

A Samsung DB22D-P professional display manual illustrates why model-specific instructions matter: it lists controls such as backlight, contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, tint, color temperature, white balance, gamma, and color space, but also says some controls are unavailable in particular picture modes. It describes color temperature using red, green, and blue adjustments and includes white-balance offset/gain and gamma controls. These are examples from that model’s manual, not a feature list or recipe for every Samsung monitor. Samsung DB22D-P User Manual
Avoid copying brightness, gamma, or white-point numbers from a generic guide. A suitable value depends on the exact display, mode, signal path, room, and target use; the available documentation does not establish one set of numbers for all Samsung monitors.

Decide whether visual tuning is enough
For everyday use, choosing a suitable picture mode and setting brightness by eye may be sufficient. That produces a subjective adjustment, not a measurement of color accuracy. If consistent color matters for photography, design, or video, a monitor calibration colorimeter can measure the display and support creation of a profile, provided the sensor and software work with your exact monitor and workflow.

Calibration features can also be model-specific. The S27B970D manual describes a Calibration color mode that analyzes the monitor’s color characteristics and can save color information as an ICC profile; it also says color settings are disabled while that mode is active. This describes the S27B970D, not a general capability of Samsung monitors. Samsung S27B970D User Manual: Configuring Color Mode
Manage a display profile in Windows
- On a supported Windows system, open Settings > System > Display > Color profile.
- Select the monitor you want to manage, especially if more than one display is connected.
- Use the available controls to add or remove a profile, set a default profile, or start display calibration.
A profile should match the display and calibration state it was created for. An ICC profile is not the same as changing the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) controls: it does not physically change those settings, and it does not guarantee that every app will use color management. Microsoft documents Windows profile management and display calibration in its guide to changing display brightness and color.

Calibrate HDR separately in Windows 11
For a compatible external HDR monitor, use the Windows HDR Calibration app rather than treating HDR calibration as an extension of SDR profile setup. Turn on HDR for the intended display, open the app, and run its test patterns full screen on that display.

Microsoft recommends calibrating under normal room lighting, notes that display post-processing effects can interfere, and advises rerunning calibration after changing the display setup. The app’s test patterns are recommended by the HDR Gaming Interest Group (HGIG) for HDR gaming. HDR behavior and available monitor controls still depend on the Samsung model.
