The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, so its original midnight preorder-pickup event is over. As of October 9, 2026, Best Buy has announced a different late-night event: on November 5, it plans to open at midnight ET for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and offer a limited number of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 systems for purchase. That announcement does not promise midnight pickup for standard Switch 2 preorders or say that the special-edition systems can be reserved.
If you want a console now, check a retailer’s live listing for stock and a pickup option tied to your chosen store. If you are considering the November event, verify the location’s hours and the listing or order details before traveling.

Can you preorder a Switch 2 for midnight pickup?
There is no current blanket midnight-pickup offer for standard Nintendo Switch 2 consoles established by the available retailer announcements. Best Buy’s November 5, 2026 event is for the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time; Best Buy says a limited number of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 systems and Switch 2 Pro Controllers will be available to purchase in stores. It does not describe those consoles as preorder inventory or guarantee that every store will have one. Best Buy’s event announcement has the current details.

Confirm the pickup method and timing in the product listing, cart, order page, and confirmation email.

How to check for a Switch 2 preorder with store pickup
- Choose the exact console or bundle. Nintendo’s U.S. retail-offer page currently lists the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle for $549.99 and the Nintendo Switch 2 Sports Resort Bundle for $529.99, shown as available October 22, 2026. These are listed offers, not guarantees of retailer stock. Nintendo says the offers are while supplies last; retailer participation and actual savings may vary. Check the retailer’s live listing for contents, availability, pickup eligibility, and final terms. The Sports Resort bundle’s included online membership auto-renews after its initial term unless canceled. See Nintendo’s current U.S. retail offers.
- Select a specific store and pickup option. Check whether the listing or cart explicitly offers store pickup for that item and location. Do not assume a preorder can be picked up simply because the retailer offers pickup for other products.
- Review the order confirmation. Confirm the order is accepted, note the pickup store and stated date or time, and read any instructions about release-night access or changes to the fulfillment method. Keep the order number available.
- Verify the store’s hours before leaving. Use the retailer’s store locator and check the specific location’s event details. A chain-wide announcement may not settle the hours or inventory for every store.
What time is Best Buy’s November 2026 midnight event?
Best Buy announced the event for midnight Eastern Time on November 5, 2026. The equivalent listed opening times are 11 p.m. Central, 10 p.m. Mountain, and 9 p.m. Pacific on November 4; Best Buy also lists 8 p.m. Alaska Time and 6 p.m. Hawaii Time on November 4. These are the announced event times, not a guarantee that every location will participate or have a console. Check the event announcement and your local store’s listing before making a trip.
Best Buy says customers who already selected pickup for the game can visit during the late-night opening. It also says customers will receive an email with an option to switch to store pickup. Those directions concern the game release and do not establish an equivalent process for console preorders; follow the message for your own order rather than assuming it qualifies.
What to bring and check for a Best Buy pickup
Best Buy’s general pickup guidance says to bring the order number and government-issued photo ID matching the order name, or the authorized pickup person named for the order. Its general policy says an item is held for five days, but a release event may have additional instructions. Treat the event-specific details in your order email as controlling and check Best Buy’s store-pickup guidance if anything is unclear.

What to expect from Target and GameStop
Target
Target says preorder pickup and Drive Up are being tested for select preorder products and stores. Look for the option on the item page and in the cart for your chosen location; Target’s ordinary pickup service does not mean a Switch 2 preorder will be eligible for midnight pickup. Target’s preorder pickup help page describes the limitation.
GameStop
GameStop’s help page includes general information about online preorder pickup in stores, but it does not establish a current Switch 2 midnight schedule. Check the confirmation for your reservation and contact the specific store where you made it. GameStop’s preorder pickup help article was marked updated October 1, 2026.
Why older Switch 2 midnight-pickup advice is outdated
For the original U.S. launch, Best Buy said nearly all its stores would open at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on June 5, 2025, for preorder pickups and walk-in purchases, with limited consoles, games, and accessories. Its listed equivalents were 11:01 p.m. Central, 10:01 p.m. Mountain, and 9:01 p.m. Pacific on June 4. Those hours applied to the 2025 launch, not the November 2026 event. Target’s 2025 announcement described limited in-store stock on June 5, with tickets distributed before stores opened; online availability began June 6 while supplies lasted. Target said its own preorders sold out in less than two hours. That was Target’s statement about its 2025 preorder launch, not a current demand estimate or forecast of stock at other retailers. - Pickup eligibility: Does the exact console or bundle show pickup at your selected store?
- Timing and location: Is pickup explicitly scheduled for the event, and has the local store confirmed its opening time?
- Reserved versus walk-in stock: Does your order confirmation reserve a unit, or does the announcement only mention limited in-store availability?
- Fulfillment and hold window: What does your order email say about arrival, pickup deadline, authorized pickup, and any event-specific steps?
