Use Trick as a frontline distraction: the unofficial build recommendation is to take the Heavy specialization, draw enemy attacks with taunts, and use his defense boost to absorb pressure while the squad deals damage. Add Soldier options if you want a way to damage or disable a priority target. The exact costs and ranks can change, so check Trick’s current ability details in your game.
What Trick does best
Trick’s suggested Heavy setup is built around controlling enemy attention rather than maximizing his damage. Bulwark taunts enemies in an area and raises Trick’s defense for the turn. Intimidating Posture makes a target he hits taunt toward him, giving you another way to pull fire off vulnerable squadmates. These are options from an unofficial game database, not an official developer build recommendation.
The database identifies its ability entries as read from build 25513890. Treat listed costs and availability as version-sensitive, and verify them against Trick’s ability screen, especially after updates or when unlocking higher ranks.

How AP and Advantage work with Trick
Each operator gets three action points (AP) per turn. Movement, attacks, and many abilities draw from the same pool, so using AP for one action leaves less for the others. Advantage is a separate resource: the official StarWars.com beginner guide says operators gain it by dealing damage, and PC Gamer reports that Advantage abilities do not consume AP. That distinction lets Trick use an Advantage-costing ability and still spend AP on movement or attacks.

- Standard Edition for PlayStation 5 (disc) includes the full Star Wars Zero Company game. Single-player turn-based tactics set in the twilight of the Clone Wars—lead Hawks and Zero Company in an intense campaign.
- Build your squad from clone troopers, scoundrels, astromechs and even a Jedi—combine abilities and gear in deep Tactical-Strategy combat.
- Plan at your base, adapt on dynamic battlefields and make decisions that shape missions and replayability in this cinematic Star Wars story.
- Customise Hawks and your operatives, tailor loadouts and unlock powerful squad synergies designed for Strategy, Turn-Based and Sci-Fi fans.
Plan around both resources. If Trick needs to reposition or use an AP ability such as Unstoppable or Brutal Strike, reserve enough AP before committing to other actions. Advantage can fund an ability without reducing his AP, but it may be needed for a stronger squad action later in the turn.

Heavy: frontline taunter
Choose Heavy when the squad needs someone to attract attacks and stay exposed. Bulwark is the area taunt and defense option; Intimidating Posture makes hits taunt their target. The database lists Bulwark at 4 Advantage and Intimidating Posture as a passive effect. Confirm current costs and rank requirements in-game.

Add Soldier for damage or control
The database also recommends Soldier as a useful addition. Rocket Strike damages targets in an area and costs Advantage; its listed cost is 10 Advantage once per combat. Brutal Strike rushes one target and Dazes it, with a listed cost of 1 AP once per turn. Use Brutal Strike when disabling one dangerous enemy matters more than spreading damage.
These choices are not the only way to develop Trick. PC Gamer reports that authored squadmates can be respecced into other classes, subject to exotic-class restrictions, while keeping their unique abilities. Consider your squad’s gaps before committing: a frontline taunter, an area attacker, and a single-target controller serve different needs.

How to spend Trick’s turn
Use this sequence as a tactical starting point, not a guaranteed rotation; it depends on current ability ranks, available resources, weapon, and enemy positions.
- Check the threat and resources. Identify the enemy most likely to hurt a vulnerable operator, then check Trick’s AP and the squad’s Advantage.
- Use Bulwark if the situation warrants it. If you have the required Advantage and need to pull several enemies toward Trick, activate it. The database’s listed cost is 4 Advantage.
- If Bulwark is unavailable, land a taunting hit. Shoot a dangerous enemy with Intimidating Posture active so the hit taunts that target. A blaster pistol’s separate one-AP shots can provide more chances to taunt than a repeater burst that spends all available AP in one attack.
- Use Unstoppable if you have a spare AP. The database lists Unstoppable at 1 AP. Check its current effect and cost in-game before relying on it.
- Spend remaining AP on the action that changes the fight. Use Brutal Strike to Daze a priority target when shutting it down is more valuable than another shot; otherwise attack or reposition as the battlefield requires.
For a wider view of the turn, StarWars.com’s guide explains that operators can also use remaining AP for Overwatch and advises checking mission objectives rather than assuming every enemy must be eliminated. The guide also notes that difficulty can be adjusted outside combat and missions can be restarted.

Manage the risk of drawing fire
A taunt only helps if Trick can survive the attention it attracts. The Heavy build’s defense increase supports that job, but do not leave him exposed to more danger than the squad can manage. If an operator is downed, the official beginner guide says they receive an injury; with permadeath enabled, three injuries can mean death. Weigh the value of drawing attacks against the mission’s risks and your current injury situation.
