Build the WordPress site and publish useful, original content before applying to Amazon Associates. Amazon’s current help text says your application is checked after you generate at least three qualifying sales within the first 180 days after signup; personal orders do not count, and an application that is rejected cannot be reinstated. Treat the site as a real publication first: establish a focused niche, publish a substantial library, add clear disclosures, and use Amazon-approved linking and price tools before sending visitors to product pages.

What an Amazon affiliate website does
An Amazon affiliate website earns a referral commission when a visitor follows a tagged link to Amazon and completes an eligible purchase or other qualifying action. Your WordPress site supplies the editorial layer: it helps a reader decide what to buy through explanations, comparisons, demonstrations, use-case recommendations, and answers to problems that a product listing alone does not solve.
The strongest sites are not collections of product links. They have a defined audience and publish information that remains useful even when a particular model is unavailable. A site about home networking, for example, might explain Wi-Fi standards, show how to place a router in a small apartment, compare solutions for a dead zone, and then link to products that fit each situation.
Amazon Associates requirements you must plan around
Three qualifying sales in 180 days
Amazon Associates Central states that, after signup, the Associates team reviews an application once it has driven at least three qualifying sales within the first 180 days. This is an account-review threshold, not a promise that three sales guarantee approval. The wording was retrieved from Amazon’s official help text in 2026, so confirm the live Operating Agreement and help pages for the marketplace and country in which you apply.
#1 Best Overall
| Rule | What it means for your launch |
|---|---|
| Minimum activity | At least three qualifying sales during the first 180 days after signup. |
| Personal purchases | Your own orders do not count toward the threshold. |
| Failure to reach the threshold | Amazon may withdraw the application or close the account review without approval. |
| Rejected account | Amazon’s current help text says a rejected account cannot be reinstated, so treat the first application as consequential. |
Do not apply months before you can publish and promote content. The 180-day clock starts after signup, not when your domain is registered. Have a launch plan capable of producing genuine visitors and buyer intent before you submit an application.
A separate 180-day commission-eligibility rule
Amazon’s 2026 operating-agreement update also describes a different 180-day limit, effective April 14, 2026. For a qualifying purchase to remain commission-eligible, the product must be shipped, streamed, or downloaded and paid for within 180 days of the purchase. That deadline concerns whether a transaction can earn a commission; it is not the same as the three-sales account-review window. Keep the two dates separate in your reporting and troubleshooting.
Content volume and site quality
Amazon Associates Central’s UK guidance describes an expectation of robust original content and gives at least 10 posts as a rule of thumb. That is a UK-specific guideline, not a confirmed US-wide minimum. Independent guides likewise commonly recommend 10 or more original posts before applying. Use the number as a readiness check rather than a guaranteed approval formula: ten thin posts will not demonstrate the same quality as ten well-researched, genuinely helpful articles.

Age and tax information
Third-party application guides report that applicants generally need to be at least 18 and provide tax information such as a tax identification number or Social Security number. Those details were not verified against the complete Amazon Operating Agreement for this guide. Enter accurate legal and tax information and check the current Associates signup instructions for your country before applying.
Choose a niche that can support useful buying advice
A niche should be narrow enough that readers recognize your expertise but broad enough to support many problems, products, and budgets. Start with a user and a recurring need rather than a list of Amazon categories.
- Audience: Who is making the decision—beginners, parents, renters, small-business owners, creators, or another identifiable group?
- Problems: What decisions do they repeatedly face, and what goes wrong when they choose badly?
- Editorial range: Can you explain concepts, provide setup guidance, compare alternatives, and maintain articles as models change?
- Evidence: Can you evaluate products honestly without pretending to have tested hardware you have not used?
Map the niche before building menus. Group ideas into informational posts (how a technology works), selection guides (what to look for), comparisons (option A versus option B), and post-purchase help (installation, settings, maintenance, and troubleshooting). This mix gives readers reasons to return and gives affiliate links a natural context.
Build the WordPress foundation before applying
1. Register a domain and install WordPress
Choose a short, pronounceable domain that does not imply you are Amazon or an official manufacturer. Set up reliable WordPress hosting, enable HTTPS, configure automatic updates where appropriate, and create a non-administrator editor account for routine publishing. Hosting and domain providers were not evaluated in the available evidence, so select them using your own requirements for support, backups, performance, and data location.

2. Set the site identity and navigation
Use a descriptive site name, a clear tagline, and a readable theme. Create category archives that correspond to the problems you cover, not merely to affiliate merchants. Keep the primary navigation limited to the main topic groups; place legal and disclosure pages in the footer and, where your theme permits, in a secondary menu.
3. Create essential pages
- About: Explain who the site serves, your editorial scope, and how you handle recommendations.
- Privacy Policy: Describe the data your WordPress installation, analytics, forms, and third-party services process. One independent guide claims a privacy policy is mandatory before Amazon approval, but that requirement was not confirmed in Amazon’s own text available here. Publish a complete, accurate policy anyway and verify marketplace-specific requirements before applying.
- Affiliate Disclosure: State that the site may earn from qualifying purchases and explain how that affects links.
- Contact: Provide a practical way for readers to report errors, broken links, or outdated specifications.
Link the About, Privacy Policy, and Affiliate Disclosure pages from the footer so they are reachable throughout the site. A footer link is useful for access, but it does not replace a prominent disclosure near affiliate content.
Plan and publish the first content library
Use a 10-post readiness target, not a quota
Before applying, aim for roughly 10 substantial, original posts covering several search intents. The target follows the UK guidance and common third-party advice; it is not evidence of a universal US rule. Each article should stand on its own, answer a defined question, and include enough explanation that a reader can make progress without clicking an affiliate link.
- List the audience’s recurring problems and purchase decisions.
- Choose two or three cornerstone guides that explain the subject from first principles.
- Add selection guides for different budgets, spaces, skill levels, or use cases.
- Write comparisons only when the differences are meaningful and supported by reliable specifications or clearly identified experience.
- Add setup and troubleshooting articles that help existing owners; these build trust without requiring a purchase.
- Review every article for originality, factual accuracy, update dates, internal navigation, and disclosure placement.
Make recommendations transparent
Explain the criteria behind a recommendation: compatibility, dimensions, connectivity, warranty terms, software support, repairability, power requirements, or another factor relevant to the reader. Identify trade-offs and who should avoid the product. If you have not personally tested an item, write from documented specifications and clearly attribute information rather than implying hands-on testing.
Avoid copying Amazon descriptions, manufacturer claims, or other publishers’ tables. Summarize information in your own words, add context, and link to the source of any volatile specification when you have a genuine source URL. Remove or revise an article when a model is discontinued or a specification changes.
Apply to Amazon Associates at the right time
- Finish the site basics: Confirm that the domain resolves over HTTPS, navigation works on mobile, and the About, Privacy Policy, Affiliate Disclosure, and Contact pages are public.
- Publish your initial library: Have your planned original articles live and proofread. Ten is a practical target, not an approval guarantee.
- Prepare a promotion plan: Know how readers will find the site through search, newsletters, communities, or other lawful channels. Do not rely on your own purchases to create qualifying activity.
- Submit the Associates application: Use your legal identity, tax information, website details, and the correct marketplace. Check the current application screens because requirements can differ by country.
- Track the 180-day window: Record the signup date, qualifying orders, and shipment, streaming, download, and payment status. The three-sale review period and the transaction-eligibility period are separate clocks.
Apply only when you can maintain publishing and reader acquisition for the entire review period. If Amazon withdraws or rejects an application, the available guidance says a rejected account cannot be reinstated, so do not treat signup as a disposable test.
Add disclosures that readers can see before they act
Use a site-wide statement and local labels
Third-party legal guidance commonly quotes this wording: “As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.” Confirm the exact required language in the current Operating Agreement before publishing, because the complete agreement was not retrieved for this guide.
Rank #3
Place the statement in a dedicated disclosure page and in a site-wide location such as a header or footer widget. Then add a short, unmistakable label near affiliate links or recommendation buttons in each article. Guides differ on whether repeating the full statement on every page is required; using both a site-wide statement and link-level labels is the safer practical approach.

- “Paid link”
- “#ad”
- “#CommissionsEarned”
Put the label before the first affiliate link, not after a long list of buttons or hidden in a footer. Use ordinary language a visitor can understand without legal knowledge. Do not suggest that Amazon endorses your site or that a commission changes the price unless the current program terms support that statement.
WordPress placement options
Depending on your theme, add the disclosure through the single-post template, a reusable block inserted near the article introduction, or a header/footer widget. Check category pages, mobile layouts, and custom landing pages separately; a disclosure that appears in the desktop post template may disappear in a page builder or an AMP-style layout.
Create links and display prices conservatively
Use approved links
Third-party guidance says to use Amazon-approved links or a plugin that generates links through an approved API. Do not shorten, cloak, or rewrite links in a way that hides their destination or tracking data. Do not use your own affiliate links to make purchases, ask household members to order through them, or encourage clicks that have no genuine shopping purpose.
Before activating a link tool, check which marketplace it serves, how it handles unavailable products, whether it refreshes data, and what happens when the API is unavailable. Keep a record of the tool’s settings and update links when a product is discontinued or moved to a different listing.
Handle prices and availability
Independent guides warn that Amazon restricts inaccurate price displays. Static prices can become wrong when Amazon changes price, currency, seller, or availability. Many publishers therefore use an API-connected display or a neutral “Check price” button rather than hard-coding a number. The exact allowed implementation depends on the current Operating Agreement and marketplace, so verify the rule before displaying any price, discount, star rating, or availability claim.
If you cannot refresh a figure reliably, omit it. Say what the reader should check on Amazon instead of presenting an outdated price as current. Never imply that a product is in stock, on sale, or offered by a particular seller unless your permitted data source supports that statement at the time shown.
Rank #4
Do not misuse Amazon branding
Third-party guidance also cautions against using Amazon logos or other brand assets outside the permitted program tools. Follow the current brand and trademark instructions supplied inside Associates Central, and use plain text when an approved asset is not available.
Measure performance without violating the rules
Track page views, search impressions, outbound clicks, and qualifying orders in a way that respects privacy and the program’s reporting rules. Compare articles by intent: a troubleshooting post may generate few clicks but build the trust that later drives conversions from a buying guide.

- Engagement: Do readers scroll to the recommendation section, use comparison tables, or return for related guides?
- Link health: Are links resolving to the intended marketplace and current product listing?
- Qualification: Which clicks produce qualifying activity within the applicable time limits?
- Editorial value: Are readers finding answers even when they do not buy?
Do not manufacture clicks, make misleading urgency claims, or publish a page solely to intercept a branded search with no useful information. Short-term traffic that creates compliance risk is not a sound way to meet the three-sale requirement.

Applying with an empty or thin site
Symptom: The site has a homepage and a few short product paragraphs but no evidence of a real publication.
Fix: Build the initial library, add author and contact information, improve navigation, and demonstrate original problem-solving content before signup.
Confusing the two 180-day rules
Symptom: You assume a shipped order automatically satisfies the account-review threshold or overlook the separate requirement that a qualifying transaction be completed within the commission-eligibility period.

Relying on a footer-only disclosure
Symptom: A visitor sees an affiliate statement only after scrolling to the bottom of the page.
Fix: Keep the site-wide statement, but add a conspicuous label before the first affiliate link and beside recommendation buttons.
Showing stale prices
Symptom: A post displays a number that no longer matches Amazon.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Fix: Remove the static figure or use a permitted, refreshed data method. A “Check price” prompt is safer than an unverified amount, subject to current program rules.
Using shortened or cloaked URLs
Symptom: Readers and compliance reviewers cannot see where a button leads.
Fix: Replace it with an Amazon-approved link or a compliant plugin-generated link and test it on desktop and mobile.
Treating an independent claim as an Amazon rule
Symptom: A blog post says a privacy policy or a specific number of articles is mandatory, and you repeat it as official policy.
Fix: Distinguish official Associates Central wording from third-party advice. Follow the current Operating Agreement for binding requirements and keep privacy documentation accurate regardless.
A practical pre-application checklist
- WordPress runs over HTTPS and is updated and backed up.
- The domain and site name do not imply official Amazon ownership.
- About, Privacy Policy, Affiliate Disclosure, and Contact pages are public and linked in the footer.
- At least roughly 10 original, useful posts are published, with enough depth for the intended audience.
- Articles explain selection criteria, limitations, and alternatives rather than copying product listings.
- Disclosure text appears site-wide and before affiliate links or buttons.
- Links use an approved method and are tested for the correct marketplace.
- Prices, availability, ratings, and other volatile data are omitted or refreshed through a permitted method.
- You have a plan to attract genuine readers and can monitor the first 180 days after signup.
- You understand that personal orders do not count and that rejection may not be reversible.
What success looks like after approval
Approval is the beginning of maintenance, not the finish line. Review articles whenever a product changes, replace broken or redirected links, and keep disclosures visible in new templates. Separate editorial updates from commercial decisions: remove a product when it no longer fits the reader’s needs, even if its link once converted well.
Keep records of when you published or updated recommendations, which data source supplied volatile facts, and which marketplace each link targets. When a reader reports a mismatch, correct the page promptly and explain the correction where it affects a purchase decision. That operating discipline protects the value of the site long after the initial three qualifying sales.
Quick Recap
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
