The strongest early-game march in Infinity Kingdom is not a copied tier list. It is one four-Immortal team and one Dragon built around an element, sensible front- and back-row positions, complementary jobs, and characters you can actually obtain and upgrade. Start with the roster and Dragon available on your server, commit most early resources to that march, and change members only when a replacement is both obtainable and a clear fit.
For a lower-spend starting route, the older official guidance points to Water. Earth is an alternative if you already have the right Immortals and can afford the heavier investment described in those guides. Neither recommendation is a guaranteed 2026 ranking: the cited official pages date from 2020 and 2021, while a community progression guide dates from March 2024. Use them as frameworks, then verify current in-game availability and balance.
The early-game team structure: four Immortals and one Dragon
Every march is built from four Immortals and a Dragon. GTarcade’s official forum guide states, “Each team consists of four Immortals and a Dragon.” The Dragon is not a decorative fifth character: matching it to the march’s element contributes to the elemental bonuses that apply to the whole formation.

Its practical advice is, “This means that you should try your best to develop units of the same element.” Treat that as a strong default rather than an absolute rule. A slightly mixed roster that is well leveled, correctly positioned, and supported by useful skills can outperform a nominally pure team made of characters you cannot develop.

Choose a single main march first. Leveling four Immortals, their equipment, Tower of Knowledge skills, troops, and a Dragon already consumes a large share of early resources. Splitting those resources among several half-built teams usually leaves every activity weaker than concentrating on one reliable formation.
Choose an element by development access, not by an old tier-list promise
Element selection affects your bonuses, Dragon progression, and which Immortals you can realistically collect. The two routes most often described in the available official material are Water and Earth, but the pages present different goals and were written several years ago. The deciding question is simple: which element gives you four useful Immortals and a Dragon that you can upgrade consistently on your server?
Water: the lower-spend starting route
GTarcade’s 2021 official lineup guide presents Water as the best-value main troop for players with limited spending. Its sample opening formation places Brynhild and Lancelot in the front row, with Helen of Troy and Tomoe Gozen behind them. If your recruitment options provide them, the guide names Harald III and Eulji Mundeok as front-line replacements and Yoshitsune as a later back-row replacement.

That makes Water attractive when you want to activate a matching Dragon without waiting for a later story milestone. The listed characters are an example route, not a requirement: use a different Water Immortal when the available copy has better development potential, a more useful skill combination, or a substantially higher level.
Earth: a conditional route with a larger investment
The official lineup guide describes Earth as a potentially stronger overall direction but also as the more expensive option. Its example uses Alexander the Great and Boudicca in front, with Cleopatra and Isabella of Castile in the back row. Leonidas and Zenobia are listed as possible replacements.

A separate GTarcade Earth guide gives a different progression. It describes an early Earth team focused on defense and control, then an advanced example with Charles the Great and Alexander the Great in front, Cleopatra supplying back-row damage and control, and Zenobia providing healing. The variation matters: there is no single Earth roster established by those pages, and a guide’s advanced lineup may not be practical on your server.
The 2021 official guide places the Earth Dragon Egg at Story Mission Chapter 7. Confirm that requirement in your current game because acquisition schedules and events can change. Earth is a sensible choice when you already own several compatible Earth Immortals, can fund their upgrades, and prefer a sturdier control-oriented plan. It is a poor choice if you must abandon a developed Water march merely to imitate an old recommendation.

These are dated recommendations, not proof of the current best PvP composition. No published win-rate, damage-percentage, or controlled comparison establishes that one element always wins. Check your recruitment screen, events, server rules, and patch notes before spending rare resources.
Assign jobs before you assign names
A good march covers several jobs: someone must survive the opening attacks, someone must deal dependable damage, and the remaining slots should add healing, buffs, control, or other support. Four characters that all perform the same job can have excellent individual skills and still leave the formation unable to recover from focus fire or control effects.

A four-Immortal march does not need one character for every label in every situation. The point is to identify what your formation is missing. If two characters are both fragile damage dealers, add survivability or support before adding a third attacker. If the march survives but cannot finish fights, replace an overlapping defensive slot with damage or control.

Use the hard front-row and back-row rules
The official lineup guide gives a non-negotiable placement rule: Bowmen belong in the back row. Spearmen, Cavalry, and Shieldmen can occupy the front row. Put a Bowman in front and you expose a ranged unit to attacks it is not intended to absorb; put a front-row unit behind simply to make the formation look balanced and you may waste its durability.

Front row: protect the march
Place your most durable front-row Immortals where they can hold enemy attention. In the Water example, that means Brynhild and Lancelot start ahead of Helen of Troy and Tomoe Gozen. In an Earth example, Alexander the Great and Boudicca occupy the front while Cleopatra and Isabella of Castile stay behind. These placements follow the guide examples; your actual troop types and skills take priority if your roster differs.
Back row: preserve damage and utility
Keep Bowmen and other fragile damage or support units behind the front line. Back-row placement gives them time to use skills while the front row absorbs pressure. A back-row healer or controller is valuable only if it survives long enough to cast, so do not trade all front-line durability for another ranged attacker.
Account for elemental matchups
Elemental bonuses do not remove elemental strengths and vulnerabilities. Before committing to a difficult fight, inspect the opponent’s element and consider whether a temporary replacement or different march is safer. A pure-element team with a bad matchup may need better timing, stronger equipment, or a task-specific variant rather than blind faith in the aura.
Build your first march step by step
- Inventory your actual roster. Write down every Immortal you can recruit or already own, its level, troop type, element, and useful skills. Mark characters you can obtain repeatedly rather than characters that appear only in an uncertain event.
- Pick the element with the clearest upgrade path. Choose Water if its tutorial Dragon and available Immortals let you make steady progress with limited spending. Choose Earth when your account already supports the Earth route and you accept the additional investment described by the official guide. Do not select an element solely because an old article calls it stronger.
- Fill the front row first. Select two compatible Spearmen, Cavalry, or Shieldmen, then check whether their skills cover durability, control, or protection. Keep Bowmen out of this row.
- Fill the back row with complementary jobs. Add damage, support, control, or healing. Avoid four characters whose skills all improve the same statistic or require the same trigger.
- Match the Dragon when practical. A same-element Dragon contributes to the stacking elemental bonuses. If the matching Dragon is not yet available, continue developing the best usable march rather than leaving your account idle while waiting.
- Read every skill interaction. Compare cast conditions, targets, damage types, healing, control duration, and whether effects benefit allies or only the caster. The strongest-looking description is not automatically the best fit for your formation.
- Equip the march as a unit. Prioritize equipment and Tower of Knowledge skills for the four Immortals that actually travel together. A scattered set of upgrades across reserve characters delays the point at which your main march becomes reliable.
- Test in routine content. Use repeatable activities to see whether the formation fails because the front line collapses, damage is too low, healing arrives too late, or a control effect misses its intended target. Change one slot at a time so you can identify the cause.
Upgrade one march before building a second
The March 2024 community beginner guide recommends starting with one main composition and changing it as new characters become available. Its advice is especially useful for new accounts: avoid risky meta experimentation before you understand your roster and the activities you play. A half-upgraded second march can wait until the first one clears routine content comfortably.

Use this order when resources are tight:
- Core Immortal levels and skills: keep the four characters that fight together at comparable development so one underpowered slot does not become the failure point.
- Dragon development: the official guide says Dragon upgrades unlock skills and increase unit attribute bonuses. Level the Dragon alongside the Immortals instead of treating it as an afterthought.
- Equipment: give the best fitting pieces to the main march, with durability on front-row units and damage or utility on back-row units when the item’s attributes support those jobs.
- Troops and supporting systems: continue improving the march’s troop type, elemental bonuses, and Tower of Knowledge skills together. The official strategy index groups Immortals, Dragons, Equipment, Units, Elemental Aura, and Tower of Knowledge as connected systems, so optimizing only one leaves value unused.
Do not dismantle a functioning team every time a rare Immortal appears. Switch only when the new character can be developed, fits the element or provides a compelling role improvement, and does not leave the rest of the march underpowered.

One formation does not perform identically in every mode. The 2024 community guide specifically discusses early PvE activities including Gnomes, Gnome Bosses, Well of Time, Mysterium, and Spider, and gives different team versions for different tasks. That is a reminder to preserve a stable main march while making deliberate, limited changes for a particular encounter.
Routine PvE and Gnomes
Favor dependable damage and enough durability to complete repeated fights without excessive losses. If your march already survives comfortably, a control or damage replacement may shorten battles more than another defensive character.
Gnome Bosses and other hard targets
Watch the combat log for the first failure. If the front line dies before support skills activate, improve durability or healing. If the team survives but the timer or damage race is the problem, replace an overlapping defensive slot with a damage dealer whose skills work with your troop type.

These activities can reward different timing, control, or sustained-recovery choices. Keep the same element and Dragon where possible so you retain your investment, then test one substitution at a time. A task-specific version should be a small adjustment, not a reason to level four completely separate teams at the beginning.

Common early-game mistakes and their fixes

When should you move from Water to Earth?
Move only when the Earth roster is a real upgrade for your account, not because a guide uses the word stronger. A sensible switch has three conditions:
- You can obtain the Earth Dragon and enough compatible Earth Immortals without leaving your current march unfinished.
- The proposed Earth characters provide a better spread of durability, damage, support, and healing for the content you play.
- You have enough upgrade materials to bring the new team close to the level of the Water team you would replace.
If any condition is missing, keep developing Water and revisit the decision after a major recruitment or story milestone. The official guidance treats Water as the value route and Earth as a costlier strength route; that is a budgeting framework, not a command to restart your account.
What the older guides do and do not establish
The most detailed lineups come from GTarcade official forum and guide pages dated 2020 and 2021, supplemented by a community guide published in March 2024. They explain composition principles and offer example progressions, but they do not establish the current best PvP team, today’s shop or bundle availability, exact server-specific acquisition schedules, or patch-level balance. They also do not provide controlled win-rate or damage testing.
Use the guides for the durable principles: four Immortals plus a Dragon, matching elements when practical, correct row placement, balanced jobs, and coordinated Dragon development. Confirm volatile details inside your game before spending premium currency or rare upgrade materials.
A practical decision rule for your account
Choose the march that reaches a complete, coherent state fastest. If your tutorial gives you the Water Dragon and your Water roster already contains a front line plus back-row damage or support, continue with the Water example and replace characters only as stronger obtainable options appear. If your account has early access to the Earth characters described above and you are prepared for the higher investment, Earth can be your main march. In both cases, keep the Dragon aligned, put Bowmen behind the front line, cover more than one combat job, and concentrate upgrades until that single march is dependable.
