A polished Samsung home screen starts with a wallpaper and color palette, then adds only the widgets and shortcuts you use. Optional tools such as Galaxy Themes, Good Lock Home Up, and Wonderland can add more styling, but their availability and controls vary by device, One UI version, and region.
1. Choose a wallpaper and visual direction
Begin with the wallpaper because it sets the screen’s mood and color direction. Pick a background that leaves icons, labels, and widget text easy to distinguish. A calm image gives larger widgets room to stand out; a detailed or high-contrast image usually works better with fewer items layered over it.
Decide whether you want a sparse, minimal screen or one that shows more information at a glance. Either can work: the right choice depends on how much you want to see without opening apps and how much visual detail you enjoy.

2. Add widgets that earn their space
Widgets can show information or provide shortcuts from the Home screen. Samsung’s examples include Camera, Samsung Notes, Spotify, and YouTube; choose only the ones that make a routine task faster or useful information easier to check. Samsung’s widget instructions are at Add, customize, and use widgets on Galaxy phones.

- Long-press an empty area of the Home screen.
- Open the widget controls shown on your device.
- Choose a widget, then select a size or layout if offered.
- Place it where its content is readable and it does not crowd important shortcuts.
Exact labels and available widgets can differ across software versions and devices. Samsung’s developer documentation describes the Home and Lock screens as surfaces for quick interaction, including widgets: One UI structure: Basic structure.
3. Arrange apps around how you use the phone
Keep frequently used apps easy to reach and group related shortcuts where you can find them quickly. Leave empty space when it improves the composition or keeps a widget from feeling cramped. There is no universally best grid: screen size, eyesight, hand reach, and personal preference all affect what feels comfortable. Grid options and their labels may vary by One UI version.

After arranging the screen, check it in ordinary use: can you identify app icons against the wallpaper, read widget text at a glance, and reach your most-used apps without hunting?

Galaxy Themes and Good Lock are optional ways to change the look beyond the basic layout. Samsung describes Good Lock as a Galaxy customization tool, and its Home Up module adds home-screen personalization options. The Home Up coverage from Samsung is framed around One UI 7: Good Lock Home Up enhances One UI 7 home-screen customization.

Before relying on a particular app or module, check its current listing and whether it is available for your region, device, and One UI version. Samsung’s Galaxy Store listing says Good Lock supports One UI 4.0 and later, but that general compatibility note does not establish that every module or feature works on every Galaxy phone: Good Lock on Galaxy Store.
5. Treat animated wallpaper as an optional accent
Samsung’s Wonderland tool can create animated wallpapers for the Home and Lock screens, which can be customized independently. That makes motion an option for adding personality without requiring both screens to share the same treatment. See Samsung’s Good Lock customization overview.

If you try an animated background, keep the motion and detail from competing with text, icons, or widgets. A static wallpaper is simpler to maintain; a moving one adds visual activity. Choose based on the screen you want to live with, not because animation is required for a finished setup.
6. Compare styles by what you value

7. Check version-specific features before following a setup
Some Samsung features have explicit software requirements. For example, Samsung’s widget support page says the Now bar feature it describes requires One UI 7.0 or higher. Do not assume it appears on every Galaxy device. Likewise, Samsung’s Home Up coverage is about One UI 7, while Good Lock’s broader One UI 4.0-and-later listing does not guarantee each module’s availability or behavior on your phone.

Use the controls and module listings shown on your own device as the final guide. Once the screen is set up, review contrast, widget usefulness, shortcut reach, and visual clutter; adjust whichever part makes everyday use less clear.
