An accelerator pitch deck should work as a concise leave-behind: a reviewer must understand what you are building, who needs it, what evidence you have, and what the program would help you achieve without a live explanation. A practical starting point is a clear 10–15-slide deck, excluding an appendix, adapted to the target accelerator’s current application form.
Use one main claim per slide, put the evidence directly under that claim, and state unknowns plainly. The strongest deck is not the one with the most slides or the most ambitious forecast; it is the one that makes the company easy to understand and the next milestone credible.
What an accelerator reviewer needs to understand
Reviewers usually scan an application quickly and may read the deck without a founder present. Your slides therefore need to answer five questions in a logical order:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- What does the company make, and for whom?
- Which painful, frequent, or expensive problem does it solve?
- What evidence shows that the problem and solution are real?
- How can the business become large and sustainable?
- Why is this team, at this moment, positioned to make progress?
Write in plain language. Y Combinator’s official application guidance says, “The best answers are the most matter of fact.” It also warns that “Every unnecessary word in your application subtracts from the effect of the necessary ones.” Treat those lines as editing rules: remove slogans, broad claims, and adjectives that do not help a reviewer decide.

A deck is not a compressed business plan. It is a decision document. Detailed calculations, interview notes, technical architecture, and secondary charts belong in an appendix or the application form unless they are necessary to support the main argument.
Check the accelerator’s application before designing slides
Requirements differ by program, stage, geography, and year. Open the current application form first, list every requested field and file, and then map each answer to a slide or a clearly labeled application response.
| Application consideration | What to verify | How it changes your deck |
|---|---|---|
| Stage fit | Whether the program accepts ideas, pre-product companies, early revenue, or growth-stage startups | Emphasize the evidence appropriate to your stage rather than forcing revenue metrics you do not have |
| Required materials | Deck, product demo video, team introduction video, financial information, or other uploads | Give each required item a distinct job; do not duplicate the deck word-for-word in a video |
| Evaluation emphasis | Team, market, traction, technical insight, social impact, or geography | Move the strongest relevant evidence earlier and make the connection explicit |
| Program alignment | Mentors, network, partnerships, or resources that match your next milestone | Make the ask specific to the milestone the program can help unlock |
| Submission constraints | Character limits, accepted file type, slide guidance, deadline, and whether updates are allowed | Design within the real limits and submit the requested version, not a generic template |
The current Techstars application preview lists a product demo video, a pitch deck, and a team introduction video among its core media items. It also asks about the problem, solution, incorporation, industry, team, traction, revenue and funding, monetization, target audience, competitors, competitive advantage, timing, customer acquisition, and major milestones. Its managing-director guidance says there is no minimum requirement and that each application is different. That means you should answer “not yet” honestly where appropriate and explain what you have learned.
Techstars Support states that no business plan is needed for its application process and that applicants need to complete the online application. This is a program-specific statement, not a universal rule; check the target accelerator’s current form before omitting any requested document.
A practical 10–15-slide structure
Y Combinator’s 2025 Guide to Seed describes a coherent leave-behind and gives a 10–15-slide range excluding an appendix. Use that range as a starting point, not a quota. Ten strong slides are better than fifteen thin ones. The sequence below covers the information most accelerator forms request.
1. Company and one-line description
Open with the company name and one sentence that says what you make, for whom, and the immediate problem addressed. A useful formula is: “We help [specific customer] achieve [valuable outcome] by [distinct approach].” Avoid category labels that require interpretation. “AI platform” is not a description; explain the workflow and user.
Put the sentence in the slide title or directly beneath it. If a reviewer remembers only one line, this should be the line you want remembered.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →2. The customer problem
Describe the painful, frequent, or expensive problem and identify who experiences it. Show the current workaround, its cost, delay, error rate, or risk when you have reliable evidence. A short customer quote can add texture, but attribute it clearly and do not use a quote as a substitute for describing the pattern.
Keep the problem narrower than a whole industry. “Small businesses struggle with marketing” is too broad; identify the job, buyer, and moment when the problem occurs.
3. Solution and product
Show the product, workflow, or prototype. Use a screenshot, annotated flow, or a single demo frame that makes the before-and-after obvious. Label what is live, in pilot, mocked up, or planned. A reviewer should be able to connect each product element to the problem slide without a spoken explanation.
If the product is technical, explain the user-visible advantage first. Put architecture, model details, or infrastructure choices in the appendix unless they are themselves the defensible insight.

4. Why now
Explain the change that makes the opportunity timely: a technology becoming practical, a regulatory shift, a new distribution channel, a behavior change, or a cost curve. Name the specific change and its consequence for the customer. “The market is growing” is not a why-now argument unless you show what changed and why your product can take advantage of it.

5. Target customer and market logic
Define the initial customer precisely: role, company type, geography, use case, or other attributes that determine buying behavior. Then show how you think about market size. Separate observed facts from assumptions, label the period and geography, and show the arithmetic behind any estimate in the appendix.
A credible bottom-up model is usually easier to evaluate than an unsupported top-down percentage. For example, state the number of plausible customers, the expected annual price, and the assumptions that connect those figures. If a number is an estimate, call it an estimate.
6. Traction or validation
Use the strongest evidence that actually exists: revenue, active users, retention, pilots, usage, waitlist growth, interviews, experiments, or signed commitments. Every metric needs a period, customer segment, and source or measurement method. A graph without a date range or denominator creates more questions than confidence.
For pre-revenue companies, show what you tested and what changed because of the test. You can present completed interviews, prototype usage, a repeated workflow, pilot results, or a measurable experiment. Do not turn a forecast, intention, or unverified survey response into traction.
7. Business model
Explain who pays, what they pay for, the pricing logic, and how the transaction can scale. State whether the current price is proposed, pilot pricing, or already paid. If the buyer and user differ, identify both and explain the sales motion.
Connect monetization to the product behavior shown earlier. A reviewer should understand why customers continue paying, what expands the account, and which cost or service constraints could affect margins. Put detailed projections in the appendix and keep assumptions visible.
8. Competition and durable advantage
Name the alternatives customers use today, including doing nothing, internal work, spreadsheets, agencies, or adjacent products. Then state the insight, distribution edge, technology, data, workflow integration, or execution advantage that could persist.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteA feature checklist is rarely enough. Explain why a customer would switch, how you reach that customer, and what becomes harder for a follower to copy as you learn. Be honest about advantages that are still hypotheses.
9. Team and role ownership
Show the founders, their roles, and the relevant experience that reduces execution risk. Tie each person to a problem the company must solve: product, engineering, domain access, sales, operations, or another essential function. Include evidence of what the team has already built, sold, researched, or learned together when it is relevant.
Do not use biographies as a résumé dump. The question is not whether the team is impressive in general; it is why this team can solve this particular problem now.
10. Milestones and ask
End with the next measurable milestones and what the accelerator would help unlock. Milestones might involve a product release, a defined number of paying customers, retention at a stated level, a regulatory step, or a repeatable acquisition channel. Give each milestone a time horizon only when you can defend it.

How to present traction when you are early
Stage-appropriate evidence is more persuasive than inflated evidence. A reviewer can evaluate a small, well-defined test; they cannot evaluate a vague claim of “strong demand.” Choose the evidence category that matches your current state.
- Idea stage: show the customer problem, interview pattern, research method, and the decision that followed.
- Prototype stage: show who used the prototype, what they attempted, completion or repeat-use behavior, and the product changes you made.
- Pilot stage: show pilot customer type, start and end dates, scope, success criteria, and whether the pilot converted or is still active.
- Revenue stage: show revenue period, number and type of paying customers, pricing, retention or expansion where available, and whether revenue is recurring or one-time.
- Growth stage: show cohort behavior, acquisition channels, sales cycle, gross-margin logic, and the operational constraint that the next milestone addresses.
Use a simple chart when a trend matters and a compact table when several segments or periods must be compared. Never present a target as an achieved result. If you do not know a metric, say that it is not yet measured and explain the measurement you will add.
Build a defensible market and business case
Market slides fail when they jump from a huge industry number to an unsupported claim about the startup’s share. Start with the narrow beachhead: the customer you can reach, the problem they pay to solve, and the channel that gets you in front of them.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Separate facts from assumptions
Use labels such as “observed,” “pilot result,” “estimate,” and “hypothesis.” Include the date, geography, currency, and customer segment for each number. If you combine sources, show the calculation in the appendix instead of hiding it in a rounded total.
Explain the path to revenue
State the payer, contract or transaction type, price basis, and expected purchase frequency. Then describe customer acquisition: founder-led sales, partnerships, self-serve, community, procurement, or another route. The route must fit the buyer and the product’s complexity. A low-priced self-serve product and an enterprise workflow usually require different acquisition logic.
Show long-term profitability logic
Techstars’ application guidance calls for a sustainable revenue model and a path to long-term profitability. You do not need a perfect forecast, but you should identify the variables that control it: price, usage, retention, acquisition cost, service cost, or sales capacity. Distinguish current measurements from future targets.
Make competition and advantage specific
List the alternatives a customer would realistically choose today. Include manual processes and inaction; omitting them makes the comparison look artificial. For each alternative, explain the trade-off the customer accepts and the reason your product could win.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Then identify the advantage that compounds. It might be proprietary data generated through use, a distribution relationship, a workflow embedded in a regulated process, unusual technical expertise, or faster learning in a focused segment. If the advantage is not yet proven, describe the experiment that will test it and the milestone that would validate it.
Design the deck for fast, accurate reading
Use a title that states the slide’s conclusion, not a label such as “Traction” or “Market.” Put the supporting evidence directly below the title so a reviewer can understand the point by scanning titles and captions.
- Keep one main claim per slide; move secondary arguments to the appendix.
- Use readable type, strong contrast, and generous spacing.
- Use consistent labels for dates, currencies, user counts, and percentages.
- Label charts with units, time periods, denominators, and customer segments.
- Use screenshots and diagrams only when they clarify the workflow; remove decorative elements that compete with the claim.
- Define unfamiliar terms the first time they appear.
Do not hide caveats in tiny text. If a metric is from a pilot, a one-time allowance, or a limited geography, put that qualification beside the number.
Use demos and videos as separate evidence
Some accelerator applications request a product demo video and a team introduction video in addition to the deck. Treat each medium differently.
Product demo video
Show the shortest path from the customer’s problem to the product’s outcome. Begin with the user and task, then show the workflow, result, and current status. Narrate what is live and what is simulated. A screen recording with clear audio is more useful than a polished montage that hides the product.

Team introduction video
Introduce each founder, role, relevant background, and reason for working on the problem. Keep the setting and production simple. Techstars managing directors advise founders to be themselves and not worry about high production quality. The video should add confidence in the people, not repeat every line of the team slide.
How the media should connect
The deck should stand alone. A reviewer should not need to watch a video to discover the company’s basic proposition. Conversely, the video can demonstrate motion, tone, or product behavior that a static slide cannot show. Use the same product names, customer terms, and metric definitions across all files.
Appendix: what to include and what to leave out
An appendix is the right place for detail that supports a decision without interrupting the main narrative. Useful appendix slides include:
- market-sizing arithmetic and assumptions;
- cohort, retention, revenue, or usage detail;
- technical architecture and security notes;
- customer interview method and representative findings;
- pricing experiments and unit-economics assumptions;
- regulatory, implementation, or operational milestones;
- additional product screens and competitive context.
Do not use the appendix to conceal an unsupported claim. If a number is central to the argument, put the essential evidence in the main deck and use the appendix for depth.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Export and inspect the final file
If the application requests an upload, export a stable PDF and open the exported file before submitting it. Check that fonts render correctly, links work, charts remain legible at normal viewing size, and no text or images move during export.
- Confirm that the file contains the correct company name, date, and version.
- Open the PDF on a different device or viewer from the one used to create it.
- Read only the slide titles in sequence; they should form a coherent argument.
- Read the deck without presenter notes and verify that every essential claim is understandable.
- Inspect charts, screenshots, and small labels at the size a reviewer will see.
- Match the uploaded file and filename to the accelerator’s stated format and deadline.
Tailor emphasis to stage and program
Do not copy a generic accelerator template unchanged. Adjust the order and depth of evidence to the company’s stage and the program’s questions.
| Situation | Emphasize | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Idea or pre-product | Problem specificity, customer discovery, insight, prototype plan, and the test that comes next | Forecasts presented as traction or precise revenue claims without evidence |
| Early product | Usage behavior, pilot learning, product workflow, target customer, and acquisition experiment | Feature inventories that do not show customer value |
| Early revenue | Paying customer profile, revenue period, retention, pricing, sales cycle, and repeatable channel | Unqualified growth percentages or blended metrics with no denominator |
| Growth stage | Cohorts, unit economics, operational bottleneck, market expansion, and the milestone the program accelerates | Spending most of the deck on a problem the market already understands |
Program alignment should be practical. Explain why the accelerator’s mentors, network, or resources match the next milestone, not why the program is prestigious in the abstract.
