A Laravel links landing page is a small application that lists your important destinations—profiles, projects, documentation, stores, or contact methods—at one shareable URL. The quickest working version is a Blade view returned from routes/web.php. When links must be edited without a code deployment, store them in a database and load them through a controller. Docker Compose then runs the Laravel runtime, Nginx, and database as connected services instead of requiring each dependency to be installed directly on your computer.
This guide builds the page in deliberate stages: first a static screen, then a model-backed page, then a development Compose stack, and finally a production-oriented arrangement. You can stop after any stage that meets your needs.
Choose the smallest architecture that solves the problem
A links page does not need a database merely because Laravel can use one. Decide how often the content changes and who changes it before adding services.
| Decision | Simpler option | Move to the larger option when… |
|---|---|---|
| Page data | A Blade view with an array, or Route::view |
Links are edited, ordered, filtered, disabled, or different for each user. |
| Persistence | No database, or SQLite for a small local demo | Several people need durable, shared data and repeatable deployments. PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB are suitable choices when Laravel’s settings and schema match the selected engine. |
| Containers | One Compose file for local development | Development and production need different images, volumes, health checks, networks, or secret handling. |
| Tooling | Laravel Sail or a compact custom Compose setup | Nginx, queue workers, scheduled jobs, asset builds, and operational controls need to be separated and managed explicitly. |
For a first screen, use a static route and an in-memory collection. For a page that will be maintained by a non-developer or an administration workflow, begin with the model-backed design described below; otherwise you will later migrate both the data shape and the rendering code.

Define the link record before writing the UI
A useful record needs only a few fields. Keep the data model boring so the page remains easy to validate and sort.
- label: the visible, descriptive name, such as “Project documentation”.
- url: the destination, preferably a real HTTPS URL.
- description: optional context shown below the label.
- sort_order: an integer controlling display order.
- is_active: a flag allowing you to hide a link without deleting it.
An in-memory array is enough for a demonstration. A migration and Eloquent model are the better choice when any of those values must survive a container rebuild or be changed without deploying PHP code.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStatic data for the first screen
Create a view at resources/views/links.blade.php and return it from the public route:
<?php
use IlluminateSupportFacadesRoute;
Route::view('/', 'links');
Route::view is Laravel’s shortcut for returning a view when no controller logic is required. Routes in routes/web.php are intended for the browser-facing interface and receive Laravel’s web middleware group.
To pass an array while you are prototyping, use a closure instead:
use IlluminateSupportFacadesRoute;
Route::get('/', function () {
$links = [
[
'label' => 'Documentation',
'url' => 'https://example.test/docs',
'description' => 'Guides and reference material',
],
[
'label' => 'Contact',
'url' => 'https://example.test/contact',
'description' => 'Send a message',
],
];
return view('links', compact('links'));
});
Replace the example destinations with your actual HTTPS URLs. Do not accept arbitrary user-provided destinations without validation; unrestricted links can become a phishing or malware-distribution problem for anyone who trusts your page.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Build an accessible Blade page
The page should identify whose links visitors are viewing, then present each destination as a clearly labeled, keyboard-accessible link. A minimal template can remain entirely self-contained while the architecture is being proven.
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<title>Your name — links</title>
<style>

body { max-width: 42rem; margin: 0 auto; padding: 3rem 1rem; }
.profile { text-align: center; margin-bottom: 2rem; }
.link-list { display: grid; gap: 0.8rem; padding: 0; list-style: none; }
.link-card { display: block; padding: 1rem; border: 1px solid currentColor; border-radius: 0.6rem; text-decoration: none; }
.link-card:focus-visible { outline: 3px solid #4c9ffe; outline-offset: 3px; }
.link-card small { display: block; margin-top: 0.35rem; opacity: 0.8; }
</style>
</head>
<body>
<header class="profile">
<h1>Your name</h1>
<p>A short description of you, your project, or your organization.</p>
</header>
<main>
<ul class="link-list">
@foreach ($links as $link)
<li>
<a class="link-card" href="{{ $link['url'] }}">
<strong>{{ $link['label'] }}</strong>
@if (!empty($link['description']))
<small>{{ $link['description'] }}</small>
@endif
</a>
</li>
@endforeach
</ul>
</main>
</body>
</html>
Blade escapes the displayed values in the example. Keep that behavior for labels and descriptions. Use a visible :focus-visible style so keyboard users can tell which card is active, and make the label describe the destination rather than saying only “click here.” A small initial stylesheet is intentional: the important work here is the Laravel request path and container setup, not a design system.

Move links into a model and migration when content must persist
Generate a model and migration from the PHP or workspace container, where the project dependencies and Artisan executable are available:
php artisan make:model Link -m
Edit the generated migration so it represents the record defined earlier:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →use IlluminateDatabaseMigrationsMigration;
use IlluminateDatabaseSchemaBlueprint;

$table->id();
$table->string('label');
$table->string('url');
$table->text('description')->nullable();
$table->unsignedInteger('sort_order')->default(0);
$table->boolean('is_active')->default(true);
$table->timestamps();
});
}
public function down(): void
{
Schema::dropIfExists('links');
}
};
Define the model’s mass-assignable fields and casts:
namespace AppModels;
use IlluminateDatabaseEloquentModel;
class Link extends Model
{
protected $fillable = [
'label',
'url',
'description',
'sort_order',
'is_active',
];
protected function casts(): array
{
return [
'is_active' => 'boolean',
'sort_order' => 'integer',
];
}
}
Run the migration only after the database service is reachable:
php artisan migrate
Seed useful records for a fresh container
A seeder means every developer and deployment can render a meaningful page immediately instead of seeing an empty list. Create one with:
php artisan make:seeder LinkSeeder
namespace DatabaseSeeders;
use AppModelsLink;
use IlluminateDatabaseSeeder;
class LinkSeeder extends Seeder
{
public function run(): void
{
Link::query()->insert([
[
'label' => 'Documentation',
'url' => 'https://example.test/docs',
'description' => 'Read the guides',
'sort_order' => 10,
'is_active' => true,
],
[
'label' => 'Contact',
'url' => 'https://example.test/contact',
'description' => 'Get in touch',
'sort_order' => 20,
'is_active' => true,
],
]);
}
}
Call the seeder from DatabaseSeeder, then initialize with:

Use php artisan migrate --seed for a disposable development database when you want both schema and sample rows in one command. Do not use destructive reset commands against a production database unless you have deliberately backed up and confirmed the target.
Load active links through a controller
Once the page reads from the database, move the query out of the route closure. Generate a controller:

php artisan make:controller LinkPageController
Keep the query explicit: filter disabled records and order by the field you control.
namespace AppHttpControllers;
use AppModelsLink;
use IlluminateViewView;
class LinkPageController extends Controller
{
public function __invoke(): View
{
$links = Link::query()
->where('is_active', true)
->orderBy('sort_order')
->orderBy('id')
->get();
return view('links', compact('links'));
}
}
Point the public route at the invokable controller:
use AppHttpControllersLinkPageController;
use IlluminateSupportFacadesRoute;
Route::get('/', LinkPageController::class)->name('links.home');
Change the Blade loop to use object properties rather than array keys:
@foreach ($links as $link)
<li>
<a class="link-card" href="{{ $link->url }}">
<strong>{{ $link->label }}</strong>
@if ($link->description)
<small>{{ $link->description }}</small>
@endif
</a>
</li>
@endforeach
If you later add an editor, validate submitted URLs as URLs and permit only schemes you intend to display, normally HTTPS. Keep administration routes separate from the public route and protect them with authentication and authorization rather than exposing a write endpoint beside the landing page.
Understand what Docker Compose contributes
Docker Compose defines and runs a multi-container application in YAML, including its services, networks, and volumes. For this page, the usual development stack contains:
- web: Nginx, which accepts HTTP requests and forwards PHP requests to PHP-FPM.
- php-fpm: the Laravel runtime with the required PHP extensions and project dependencies.
- workspace: an optional CLI container for Composer, Artisan, and frontend asset commands.
- database: PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB, chosen consistently with Laravel’s database driver and credentials.
Compose gives these services a private network. Containers reach one another by service name, so Laravel uses the database service name as its host. It must not use localhost for a database that runs in another container: inside the PHP container, localhost means the PHP container itself.
Create a development Compose layout
The exact image tags and PHP version should be pinned deliberately and checked against the Laravel version you are using; neither a tag nor a compatibility combination should be treated as timeless. The following is a conceptual development file. Adapt image names, paths, extensions, and port numbers to your project.
services:
web:
image: nginx:stable

The sample uses a named database volume so restarting or recreating containers does not automatically erase the development database. A volume is not a backup: copy and test backups before relying on the data. The Nginx configuration must point its document root at Laravel’s public directory and pass PHP scripts to the php-fpm service on port 9000.

Keep the Nginx handoff explicit
server {
listen 80;
server_name _;
root /var/www/html/public;
index index.php;
location / {
try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$query_string;
}
location ~ .php$ {
include fastcgi_params;
fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;
fastcgi_pass php-fpm:9000;
}
}
The hostname in fastcgi_pass is the Compose service name. Using 127.0.0.1:9000 would look for PHP-FPM inside the Nginx container and fail.
Set Laravel’s environment for the Compose network
Put application and database values in .env or an environment-specific file that is not committed with production secrets. For the PostgreSQL example, the important values look like this:
Recommended Free Tools
APP_ENV=local
APP_DEBUG=true
APP_URL=http://localhost:8080
DB_CONNECTION=pgsql
DB_HOST=database
DB_PORT=5432
DB_DATABASE=links
DB_USERNAME=links
DB_PASSWORD=change-this-for-local-use
DB_HOST=database matches the Compose service name. The internal database port remains 5432 even though you may choose not to publish that port to your host. If you select MySQL or MariaDB instead, change the Laravel driver, image, environment variables, health check, and data volume path together; mixing settings from different engines produces misleading connection errors.
After changing environment values, clear cached configuration if Laravel is still using old settings:
php artisan config:clear
Keep APP_KEY stable for an existing installation. Generate it once for a new local application with php artisan key:generate, and provide secrets through your deployment platform rather than placing them in a public Compose file.
Build and initialize the local stack
- Build and start the development services. From the project root, run
docker compose -f compose.dev.yaml up --build -d. The-dflag leaves services running in the background. - Check service state. Run
docker compose -f compose.dev.yaml ps. Confirm Nginx, PHP-FPM, the workspace container (if it is long-running), and the database are in the expected state. - Run migrations. Execute Artisan in the PHP or workspace service, for example
docker compose -f compose.dev.yaml exec workspace php artisan migrate. - Seed sample content. Run
docker compose -f compose.dev.yaml exec workspace php artisan db:seed, or combine the operations withphp artisan migrate --seedinside that service. - Inspect the route. Use
docker compose -f compose.dev.yaml exec workspace php artisan route:listand confirm the root route points to the links controller or view. - Open the page. Visit the host port mapped by Nginx,
http://localhost:8080in this example. If you selected another host port, use that value instead.
Run docker compose -f compose.dev.yaml logs -f web php-fpm database while reproducing a failure. Logs usually reveal whether the problem is an Nginx handoff, a PHP exception, or a database readiness issue faster than changing several files at once.

Separate development and production configurations
A local bind mount and debug settings are convenient for editing but are not a production deployment strategy. Use a production Compose file or a separately built deployment definition when the requirements differ.
Production image and asset flow
Build a production PHP-FPM image with the application dependencies installed for production, and serve the compiled frontend assets from the image or a deliberate persistent asset location. A multi-stage build can compile assets in one stage and copy only the output into the runtime image. Do not mount the entire source tree over the production image, because that hides the files you built into the image and can expose development-only content.

- 【Space Saving & Keep Organized】Desk cable management tray holds all your power cords, outlet strips, USB hubs and computer transformers hidden from your feet, and the data cables will not enter the vacuum cleaner to keep your desk clean and tidy. Desk wire organizer is also suitable for use in the kitchen and outdoors.
- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
Health and startup behavior
Add a database health check and make application startup wait for a healthy database rather than merely a running container. A database process can accept its container start event before it is ready for migrations. Health checks improve ordering, but they do not replace retry logic or a migration plan.
Storage, secrets, and operations
- Use a named volume or managed database storage for durable data, and test restoration from backups.
- Provide
APP_KEY, database passwords, and other secrets through the hosting platform’s secret mechanism. - Terminate TLS at a properly configured reverse proxy or load balancer; the educational Nginx file above listens only for plain HTTP.
- Define how migrations run during a release, how queue workers and scheduled tasks are supervised if you add them, and where application logs go.
- Restrict database network access and avoid publishing its internal port to the public internet.
Docker’s Laravel guidance demonstrates separate development and production Compose files, service health checks, named volumes, a production network, and multi-stage asset building. Treat that arrangement as an educational starting point and adapt it to the hosting platform, traffic pattern, backup policy, monitoring, and secret-management system you actually operate.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Laravel Sail or a custom Compose file?
Laravel Sail is a Laravel-oriented development environment whose Compose file defines containers that work together to build an application. It is a good starting point when you want conventional services and minimal Docker maintenance. A custom file is appropriate when you need an explicit Nginx/PHP-FPM split, a particular database image, a workspace container, custom health checks, or a production layout that Sail’s development defaults do not represent.
- Choose Sail when: your priority is getting a supported local Laravel environment running with little YAML to maintain.
- Choose a compact custom file when: you understand the few services involved and want only the containers needed for this page.
- Choose separate custom development and production files when: images, mounts, asset builds, health checks, networks, and secret handling differ between environments.
Whichever route you use, the application-level rules remain the same: the public route belongs in routes/web.php, the database host is the Compose service name, and migrations run from a container that contains the Laravel code and dependencies.
Troubleshoot the failures that occur most often
| Symptom | Likely cause | Check or fix |
|---|---|---|
| Nginx returns 502 Bad Gateway | PHP-FPM is stopped, listening on another port, or addressed with the wrong hostname. | Inspect docker compose logs php-fpm web; confirm fastcgi_pass php-fpm:9000 and that both services share the Compose network. |
| Laravel reports “could not find driver” | The PHP image lacks the extension for the selected database. | Install the matching PHP extension in the runtime image, rebuild with --build, and verify the DB_CONNECTION value. |
| Connection refused or unknown database host | DB_HOST is set to localhost, the service name is misspelled, or the database is not ready. |
Use the Compose service name, check docker compose ps, and wait for the health check before migrating. |
| “Table links does not exist” | The migration has not run against this database or the application is connected to a different database. | Run php artisan migrate:status, inspect the effective environment, then run the migration in the PHP/workspace container. |
| The page is empty after seeding | The seeder was not called, rows are inactive, or the query’s ordering/filter differs from the data. | Run the seeder, inspect the is_active values, and verify the controller query with a database client or Tinker. |
| Changes on the host do not appear | A production-style image is being used without a bind mount, or Laravel has cached configuration/views. | Confirm the development volume mount, clear configuration/view caches, and rebuild when dependencies or image files change. |
| Port 8080 is already allocated | Another process or Compose project owns the host port. | Stop the conflicting service or change only the host side of the mapping, such as 8081:80, then use the new URL. |
Verify the page before sharing it
- Open the root URL in a private browser window and confirm inactive records are absent.
- Tab through every card; the focused card should have a visible outline.
- Activate each destination and verify it is the intended HTTPS URL.
- Resize the viewport to a phone width and confirm text remains readable without horizontal scrolling.
- Run the route list and migration status commands from the same container definition used by the team.
- Recreate the application containers and confirm the named database volume preserves expected development data.
- For production, test a backup restoration, TLS termination, secret injection, health-check behavior, and the migration procedure before directing real traffic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I build the page without a database?
Yes. Return a Blade view with Route::view or an in-memory array. Add a migration and model when links must persist or change without a code deployment.
Why is DB_HOST not localhost in Compose?
Laravel runs inside the PHP container, while the database runs in a different container. Compose DNS resolves the database service name, such as database; localhost would refer to the PHP container itself.
Where should I run Artisan commands?
Run them inside the PHP-FPM or workspace container that has the Laravel source, PHP extensions, Composer dependencies, and the same environment values as the application.
Is one Compose file suitable for production?
It can be, but development bind mounts and debug settings are usually inappropriate in production. Separate configurations let you use built images, health checks, persistent storage, asset stages, and production secret handling.
The Bottom Line
Start with routes/web.php and a Blade view, add the Link model only when persistence earns its complexity, and let Compose connect Nginx, PHP-FPM, and the database by service name. Keep development and production definitions distinct, pin compatible versions, and treat volumes, health checks, secrets, backups, and TLS as production requirements rather than optional polish.
