Build a game-deals platform around three separate things: a canonical game catalog, time-stamped store offers, and documented permission to collect and republish each source’s data. Do not make an aggregator API the foundation until its terms allow a competing comparison product. Prices also need a country and currency; a number without both can mislead shoppers.
Resolve data rights before choosing your price source
The first decision is not which API is easiest to call. It is whether you may ingest, transform, display, compare, and link the data you need. An API that technically returns prices does not automatically grant permission to build a competing product or redistribute retailer information.
IsThereAnyDeal’s API may be a conflict for a comparison platform
The IsThereAnyDeal API documentation describes game search and lookup, prices and deals, historical lows, and price history. Its documentation is version 2.11.0; most endpoints require an API key or OAuth, and some may require explicit approval. The API terms say commercial use is possible when the resulting app is public, but they also state: “You MUST NOT make an app that could be considered a competition to IsThereAnyDeal or IsThereAnyDeal projects.” A public commercial app allowance does not resolve that separate restriction. Because a game-price comparison site is directly within the kind of product that could raise the issue, get written clarification before making this API a dependency.

Steam’s official developer documentation requires an API key and acceptance of Steam API Terms of Use. The methods listed there cover news, global user statistics, user information, and Team Fortress 2 item data; that list does not document a general storefront-price endpoint. Do not treat the documented Web API as a complete source for store prices or catalog coverage, or present undocumented endpoints as official.

Retailer data needs its own permission check
IsThereAnyDeal’s shop guidance explains how retailers can provide data to that service. It does not grant another platform permission to scrape, transform, or republish each retailer’s catalog or prices. Confirm the terms and feed rights with every retailer you plan to include, including what you may show and whether you may link to product pages.
Separate games from store offers
One game may have offers from several stores, editions, regions, and activation systems. Store-specific IDs are not interchangeable with a platform-wide game identity. Keep a canonical game record and connect each offer to it through a matching process; retain source identifiers rather than using them as your only identity key. IsThereAnyDeal’s API supports lookup by title or Steam app ID and search by title, which illustrates why source-specific identifiers and your internal game identity should remain distinct.

Suggested data model
The fields below form a practical starting point. Store identifier, product URL, regional availability, platform, activation or DRM details, and sale information are reflected in IsThereAnyDeal’s retailer intake guidance. Timestamping each fetched price is an implementation recommendation so that a displayed offer can be interpreted as an observation rather than a timeless fact.

Keep game matching auditable. Preserve the retailer’s identifier and the evidence used to associate a listing with a canonical game; do not silently merge similarly named editions. When a match is uncertain, keep the offer out of comparisons until it is reviewed or resolved. These are platform-design safeguards, not capabilities guaranteed by any cited feed.

Make country, currency, and time part of every price
A price comparison only makes sense when offers refer to a defined market. IsThereAnyDeal’s API documentation exposes a country parameter using two-letter ISO country codes, and its examples include currency information. Treat those as required context for each displayed observation: store the country used to request or receive it and the currency exactly as supplied. Do not compare unlike currencies as if the amounts were equivalent.
Prices change. Save each observation with the time it was fetched, and show shoppers when an offer was last checked if your interface has room. If the source supplies a promotion end time, retain it; if it does not, avoid implying that a sale will end at a known time. A fetch timestamp records when your system saw a price, not a guarantee that the retailer still offers it at the moment a shopper clicks.

Build price history with clear coverage labels
Store historical observations by offer, retailer, country, and currency. This lets you distinguish a low at one store from a low across the sources your platform actually covers. IsThereAnyDeal’s documentation exposes historical-low and per-store-low concepts, as well as timestamped history records; those distinctions are useful when designing your own labels and queries.
Define what “all-time low” means
Do not present “all-time low” as a universal market fact unless your records support that scope. State the country and the stores covered, and make clear whether the label means a store-specific record or the lowest observed price across your participating stores. If your history begins on a particular date or has gaps, describe the claim as a record within your tracked history rather than an unrestricted all-time low.

Keep missing data distinct from a normal price
A missing or expired observation is not the same as a current regular-price offer. Mark old observations as stale according to a freshness policy you choose, and exclude them from current-price rankings when they no longer meet it. The cited documentation does not establish a universal refresh interval, so set one based on your sources’ terms, update mechanisms, and operational capacity rather than claiming a particular frequency is standard.

This is a trade-off, not a claim that one route is always better. The official documentation establishes particular API features and retailer intake fields, but it does not establish comparative freshness, store coverage, matching quality, history depth, or performance across all possible sources. Evaluate those dimensions with the actual sources you are permitted to use.
Use a staged implementation plan
- Write down the intended scope. List the countries, retailers, platforms, product types, and price-history claims the first release will support. The list determines which permissions and data fields you need.
- Confirm rights for each source. Resolve the aggregator restriction and obtain retailer-specific permission for collection, storage, display, comparison, and outbound links. Do this before making architecture depend on an unapproved source.
- Define canonical identity and offer fields. Establish your internal game ID, source-ID mapping, retailer ID, offer attributes, and price-observation format before importing records.
- Ingest with source context intact. Retain source identifiers, country, currency, fetch time, and any available sale end time. Do not discard context during normalization.
- Validate matches and observations. Catch duplicate listings, edition mismatches, malformed prices, missing currencies, and unsupported regions before offers enter public comparisons.
- Publish claims at the scope your data supports. Label country, currency, retailer, freshness, and price-history coverage so shoppers can understand what a comparison includes.
Keep affiliate links separate from ranking
A labeled link beside an offer can be a possible revenue route only when your data and link rights permit it and the retailer offers a suitable program. IsThereAnyDeal says inclusion on its service is free, welcomes shops’ affiliate programs, and says affiliate participation does not receive preferential ranking. Those statements describe its own service and relationships; they do not confirm affiliate availability, rates, or terms for your platform or any other retailer.
