Fyreslayers remain playable as an all-Fyreslayers force, but the faction is in the middle of a rules transition. Warhammer’s 9 October 2026 announcement says the forthcoming Battletome: Khazalite Holds will keep a Fyreslayers army option while moving Vulkite Berzerkers and several support units to Warhammer Legends. Build around the incoming unit roster, then confirm the released battletome, current points and your event’s rules before buying models or finalising a list.

Start by choosing which rules environment you are building for

The immediate question is not which older Fyreslayers list is strongest. It is whether you are preparing for casual games, an event with a specified battlepack, or a collection that you expect to use over time. The new battletome was described as imminent in Warhammer’s 9 October 2026 announcement, but the announcement is not a substitute for its final rules or updated battle profiles.

  • For a game soon: ask your opponent or event organiser which battletome, battle profiles and seasonal rules are in use. Do not assume that an April 2026 points sheet or an online list written before the announcement is still current.
  • For a new collection: start with units listed for the incoming book rather than buying a large force around units announced as moving to Legends.
  • For an existing collection: separate models that remain on the announced roster from those entering the transition. You do not need to discard the latter, but their event status has a stated time limit.
  • For a points-limited roster: set the game’s points limit first, then use the released profiles to calculate legal unit sizes and costs. The April 2026 values below are a dated reference, not a current list-building prescription.

The announcement says players can still field an army entirely of Fyreslayers either by selecting Fyreslayers units or by using the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown. That establishes that an all-Fyreslayers force remains an option; it does not establish one universally best roster, a recommended points limit or the final restrictions for the new book.

Know what is staying and what is moving to Legends

Warhammer’s 9 October announcement places Fyreslayers within the wider Khazalite Holds faction. It names the following Fyreslayers units for the new battletome and identifies a separate set that will move to Warhammer Legends. Treat this as the announced direction until the book and final profiles are available.

Gotrek Gurnisson also receives an honourable mention in the announcement, but the article does not give his new-book rules or a points value. Check the released rules before treating that mention as a complete roster entry.

Warhammer says the listed Legends units will soon come off sale and remain usable in competitive events for a year after the new book releases before moving into Legends. Because the book was still described as imminent on 9 October, the release date, end of that year-long period and a particular event’s eligibility rules need to be checked against current publications. Legends status is not the same thing as a model becoming unusable in every setting; it does mean you should not assume the unit will remain eligible in future competitive events.

Build the force around the announced incoming roster

The publisher describes the incoming Fyreslayers direction as more elite, with Hearthguard and Flameseekers forming an infantry core alongside Magmadroths and characters. That is a description of the faction’s direction, not proof of a tournament ranking or a claim that one combination is optimal. It is still a useful way to organise collection decisions while waiting for final costs and restrictions.

Choose an infantry starting point

Hearthguard Berzerkers and Auric Hearthguard are both on the announced roster. Vulkyn Flameseekers are also retained. These give a new collection several infantry options to investigate in the released book without depending on Vulkite Berzerkers, which are announced for Legends. The announcement does not establish final unit sizes, battlefield roles in detail, points, or how many units a legal list should include, so avoid buying quantities on the assumption that the old profiles carry forward unchanged.

Decide whether a Magmadroth-mounted hero fits your collection

The announced roster includes a Runefather, Runeson and Runesmiter each mounted on a Magmadroth, as well as their unmounted counterparts. A mounted hero is therefore a clear collection path if you want a large centerpiece model, but its new points cost and list restrictions must come from the new profiles. The April 2026 prices are not enough to determine whether a Magmadroth is an efficient fit under the incoming rules.

Add characters after checking what each does in the new book

Auric Flamekeeper and Grimhold Exile appear on the incoming list, along with the new characters Ormyr and Ashtongue. The incoming announcement does not provide their full abilities or costs. Choose among them after reviewing the actual warscrolls and army construction rules, rather than assigning a role based on a pre-transition list.

Keep the army’s intended scope clear

If the priority is a force that remains all Fyreslayers, use the new Fyreslayers selection or check the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown rules. The battletome is part of the broader Khazalite Holds faction, so players open to a wider force should consult its final rules for what may be selected together. The announcement alone does not specify the complete mixed-faction options or restrictions.

Use April 2026 points only as a dated planning reference

The official April 2026 battle profiles provide the following points values for standard Fyreslayers units. They are useful for understanding the earlier roster’s relative costs, but they predate the 9 October battletome announcement and may be superseded. Parentheses in the original profiles marked changes; this table does not attempt to carry forward those change markers as current rules.

These figures are game roster points, not model prices. They do not establish the cost of a new collection, the current points limit for a game, or the final composition of a legal list. When the current profiles are available, recalculate from scratch rather than adding an assumed adjustment to these old values.

Account for Scourge of Aqshy seasonal warscrolls

For the 2026–27 Matched Play season, Warhammer’s season overview says Scourge of Aqshy warscrolls are legal in Matched Play. A roster chooses either the seasonal warscroll or the existing warscroll for a unit; it cannot include both versions of that same unit. Check the event’s battlepack and current downloads before submitting a list, since an event may specify its own applicable rules.

One seasonal option described in Warhammer’s 30 June 2026 Scourge of Aqshy article is Seeing Red for the Auric Runeson on Magmadroth. Once per turn in any combat phase, it spends one rage die to choose an effect. The listed choices are to add an attack to the unit’s Companion melee weapons, heal based on its fury level, or gain a 5+ ward for the rest of the turn. These are alternatives to weigh in the moment, not effects to combine. Consult the seasonal warscroll for the full wording and the exact interaction with current rules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before using a seasonal version, answer three questions: does the event use the 2026–27 Matched Play rules; is the seasonal warscroll still in the current official download; and have you selected the seasonal or existing version on the roster, without mixing versions for that unit? If any answer is unclear, use the event pack or ask the organiser rather than relying on a general season summary.

Plan an existing collection without rushing to replace it

If you own units announced for Legends, separate the question of owning the miniature from the question of where you can use it. Warhammer’s announced one-year competitive transition begins after the book releases, not from the date of the 9 October article. Casual play may be governed by agreement with opponents, while a tournament’s own rules determine eligibility. Keep a record of the release date and check event rules as the transition approaches its end.

  • Keep models you enjoy using: the announcement does not say to discard them or that they immediately stop being playable everywhere.
  • Do not expand a future-focused force around announced Legends units: this is particularly relevant to Vulkite Berzerkers and the named support heroes and faction assets moving out of the new battletome roster.
  • Check how existing models map to the new rules: do not assume a model’s old warscroll, weapon option, points or army role will remain unchanged.
  • Confirm event policy separately: the transition statement concerns competitive events for one year after release; it does not override each event’s published rules.

The April profiles also include the Warrior Kinband, Forge Brethren, Scales of Vulcatrix and Lords of the Lodge battle formations; Zharrgrim Blessings prayer lore; and Magmic Invocations and the Magmic Battleforge. These are part of the earlier rules snapshot, not a confirmed description of the new battletome. In particular, the announcement says the Battleforge and Invocations are moving to Legends. Do not assume older battle formations or prayer lore carry over unchanged.

Follow a practical build sequence

  1. Set the use case and points limit. Identify the game format, points cap and whether you are playing casually or at a named event. The sources do not establish one standard limit or a universally best list.
  2. Get the current battletome and battle profiles. Once released, use those for unit eligibility, points, minimum sizes, options, enhancements and army construction. The April 2026 profile sheet is not the authority for a post-release roster.
  3. Choose the army route. Decide between selecting Fyreslayers units and using the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown. If considering the broader Khazalite Holds force, confirm the final inclusion rules rather than assuming the announcement provides them.
  4. Pick an infantry foundation from retained units. Compare Hearthguard Berzerkers, Auric Hearthguard and Vulkyn Flameseekers using the new warscrolls, costs and restrictions.
  5. Decide whether a Magmadroth-mounted character belongs in the list. Compare the three announced mounted heroes with their unmounted counterparts using current profiles and the chosen points cap.
  6. Fill remaining choices only after checking the legal roster. Review the new character entries and any required or restricted selections in the battletome.
  7. Resolve seasonal warscroll choices. If the event uses Scourge of Aqshy, select one version per unit and confirm the exact battlepack.
  8. Audit the final roster. Verify unit sizes, points, options, battle formation or Army of Renown restrictions, and the event’s current rules. Do not carry over an old internet list without checking each entry.

Separate model decisions from rules decisions

A Magmadroth-mounted hero is an obvious centerpiece route because the incoming roster expressly includes three mounted character choices. That makes the miniature relevant to a collection plan, but it does not by itself establish that a particular kit is currently available, what it contains, what it costs, or whether its new warscroll will suit a chosen roster. Check the current product listing and kit contents, then compare the model against the final rules before purchasing.

The same caution applies to books and older models. The new battletome is the intended rules reference once released, but availability and regional stock are not established here. For models moving to Legends, buying more before checking the event policy and transition dates carries more risk than using models already in your collection.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating an announcement as the full rules: the 9 October article identifies the direction and unit roster but does not provide the complete battletome.
  • Using old points as current: April 2026 values predate the announced book and need to be replaced by current profiles.
  • Buying Vulkite Berzerkers as a guaranteed long-term competitive core: they are announced for Legends, with only a temporary competitive transition after book release.
  • Mixing seasonal and existing versions of the same unit: the 2026–27 Matched Play choice is one version or the other.
  • Assuming all events apply the same seasonal or Legends rules: review the exact event battlepack and eligibility language.
  • Confusing a faction direction with a proven list result: the description of a more elite force is Warhammer’s characterization, not tournament evidence that a particular roster is best.

Sources and dates to check

The key dates matter because the rules are changing quickly: Warhammer’s Scourge of Aqshy article describing the seasonal Runeson ability was published on 30 June 2026; the official battle profiles used for the points table are from April 2026; and Warhammer announced the impending Khazalite Holds battletome and unit transition on 9 October 2026. The season overview identifies Scourge of Aqshy warscrolls as Matched Play legal for 2026–27. Use the latest official battletome, downloads and event battlepack available when building or submitting a list.
