Use Kratos’s Leviathan Axe: aim so one throw passes through every glowing knot holding the red vine barrier together. If it only cuts part of the growth, move to a different angle and line up the knots before throwing again. In the “Break Into the Hive” sequence, the target group has nine red vine hearts, so treat it as an alignment puzzle rather than a series of separate hits.
How do I break the red vines in Alfheim?
- Find the glowing knots. Look across the red growth for the bright hearts or joints that hold it together.
- Reposition until the knots line up. Move around the barrier and adjust your view so the axe’s path can pass through all the required knots.
- Throw the Leviathan Axe through them together. Some barriers require one throw to hit several knots. Hitting just one may remove only part of the growth.
- Check what remains. If any vine is still attached, inspect for another knot or a different line of sight and try again.
There is no single standing position that works for every vine group in Alfheim; the angle depends on the barrier you are facing.

How do I get past the vines in “Break Into the Hive”?
The “Break Into the Hive” group is described as having nine red vine hearts. Look for a throw path that crosses the required glowing centers in one axe throw. Reposition to change the alignment rather than assuming the hearts must be struck one at a time. No. Red vine knots are cut with the Leviathan Axe; blue light crystals are activated with Atreus’s Light Arrows. Once a crystal is powered, it can create a light bridge. Atreus gains Light Arrows during The Light of Alfheim, and the Gamer Guides chapter walkthrough covers that progression mechanic.

What about the Ringed Temple tendrils and Nornir chest?
A nearby Ringed Temple courtyard puzzle uses a powered crystal and balcony bridge to expose tendril joints; then throw the axe through the joints to shrivel the growth. That is a distinct arrangement of the same axe-through-joints idea, not a reason to use the axe on a blue crystal. The Prima Games Chapter 4 walkthrough also describes a nearby Nornir chest as a separate timed bell challenge, with three rune bells to hit within about seven seconds. The chest is optional and is not required to clear the hive vines.
Why do the vines keep coming back?
If a throw removes only part of the barrier, it likely missed one or more knots required to sever the whole growth. Change your position and look for a single axe line that crosses every relevant glowing heart. If the puzzle instead involves a blue crystal or a bridge, use Atreus’s Light Arrow on the crystal; the axe is for vine joints, not for powering crystals.

If you are stuck on a different Alfheim puzzle
Alfheim has multiple vine barriers, crystal bridges, and optional room puzzles, and their exact angles differ. Identify the nearest landmark or share a screenshot to distinguish the target before following a location-specific route. These directions are for God of War (2018), not God of War Ragnarök.
