Book a Vande Bharat Sleeper ticket through the live IRCTC reservation system: search the exact origin, destination and journey date, select the available Vande Bharat Sleeper service and class, enter every passenger’s details with a berth preference if the form offers one, review the train, stations, fare and availability, then pay and save the confirmation or electronic reservation slip. A berth preference is only a request. IRCTC says the required berth is allotted subject to availability, so the confirmed ticket—not the preference you entered—determines where you will travel.
What you need before opening the booking form
Have the exact journey date, boarding station, destination station and the names and identification details of all passengers ready. Which Vande Bharat Sleeper service is currently documented?
The first commercial Vande Bharat Sleeper service announced by the Ministry of Railways was train 27576 Kamakhya–Howrah. The ministry’s 20 January 2026 release said bookings opened at 08:00 on 19 January, with initial commercial departures from Kamakhya on 22 January and from Howrah on 23 January 2026. It also reported that every ticket for the first day’s journey sold within 24 hours of the booking window opening. That is historical information about the inaugural journey, not a promise that another date will sell out or have the same inventory.

A Rajya Sabha answer dated 6 February 2026 identifies services 27575/27576 as the Howrah–Kamakhya pair and says regular operation began on 22 January 2026. It describes a six-day-a-week pattern: departures from Kamakhya omit Wednesday, while departures from Howrah omit Thursday. A separate Lok Sabha answer dated 29 January 2026 records one pair of Vande Bharat Sleeper services at that point in time. These parliamentary answers are dated snapshots. They do not prove the live October 2026 route list, service days or available trains.
Therefore, search the exact journey in the current railway reservation interface even if you have seen a published timetable. Confirm the train number, direction, boarding station, destination, date and class on the result screen before proceeding.
How to book the ticket on IRCTC
1. Sign in and start an exact-date search
Sign in to IRCTC and enter the origin, destination and intended journey date. Use the station shown in your travel plan; selecting a nearby station by mistake can produce a different train or no result. Submit the search and wait for the current results rather than relying on a previously saved itinerary.

Read the complete result row. Match the train name or number, direction, stations and journey date. If more than one result appears, do not assume that every Vande Bharat entry is a Sleeper service. Select the service whose class and train details match your intended overnight journey.
3. Check live availability and fare
Open the availability and fare information for the class you intend to use. Inventory and price are time-specific: a result that was available earlier can become waitlisted or unavailable, and a fare shown for one date cannot be safely reused for another. Record the displayed total before payment, including any items the form adds to the booking total.
If the desired class is absent, treat that as a live availability or service condition. Do not infer that the class has been discontinued or that another class has the same berth arrangement. Search the date and route again, or choose only among the alternatives the current form actually offers.
4. Enter every passenger’s details
Add each passenger individually. Check spelling, age or other requested fields before continuing. Where the form presents a berth-preference control, set the preference for the relevant passenger. A preference is useful for communicating a need, but it does not reserve that berth.

5. Review the booking summary
Use the review screen as a final error check. Confirm all of the following before authorising payment:
- origin and destination stations;
- journey date and direction;
- train name or number;
- selected class;
- passenger names and requested details;
- displayed availability;
- total fare and any listed charges; and
- the contact information used for the booking.
Do not proceed if one of these differs from your plan. Go back and correct the form while the booking session is still active.
6. Complete payment and wait for the result
Complete the payment flow shown by IRCTC. A delayed screen, browser refresh or bank deduction does not by itself prove that a ticket was issued. Wait for the booking result and check whether the system provides a confirmation number or an electronic reservation slip.

7. Save the confirmation and electronic reservation slip
After a successful booking, retain the confirmation and electronic reservation slip. Store the booking details where you can retrieve them during the journey. The confirmed ticket is also where you should check the final coach and berth assignment when those details are issued.
How to choose a berth without assuming it is guaranteed
IRCTC’s Book E-Ticket guide states: “The allotment of your required berth depends on the availability.” Its terms also make clear that IRCTC cannot tell you in advance whether a requested berth will be allotted. Select a preference because it reflects your needs, then judge the result by the berth printed on the confirmed ticket.
The available official material does not provide a verified, complete Vande Bharat Sleeper berth map for every class, service or date. Do not promise a particular berth number, coach position or arrangement from a generic diagram. The parliamentary material mentions an ergonomically designed ladder for reaching upper berths, but that description is not a complete layout or an allotment rule.
Use access needs as the first filter
If climbing is difficult, express the access-related preference offered by the booking form. A lower berth may be the practical choice for some travellers, but entering it does not assure allocation. Check the confirmed ticket and make arrangements based on the berth actually assigned.

Consider how your party will use the space
Travellers together may prefer berths that keep the group near one another, while someone seeking more separation may choose a different preference. The reservation system decides allotment from available inventory; it does not promise that a group’s requested pattern will be preserved. If staying together is essential, review the final assignments promptly and use the railway’s current rules or support channels for any permitted change.

Compare only what the live form shows
When several classes or berth choices appear, use the current display rather than a general claim about the train. This comparison framework keeps the decision tied to verifiable information:

Inventory can change while you are entering details. Return to the availability display, confirm the current status and review the fare again before paying. If the system reports that the selected option is no longer available, start a fresh selection instead of relying on the earlier status.

Payment appears successful but no ticket is shown
Check the booking result and retrieve the electronic reservation slip before attempting another payment. A bank notification alone is not the same as a confirmed ticket. Use the transaction or support path presented by IRCTC for an unresolved payment, and avoid creating a duplicate booking until the first attempt is clear.
The assigned berth is not the requested one
Compare the final assignment with the preference you entered. Because allotment depends on availability, a different berth is not unexpected. Plan around the confirmed berth and consult the current railway rules if you need to know whether any permitted change is available.
A passenger detail is wrong on the review screen
Stop before payment and correct the entry. Check every passenger separately, especially names, ages and any field the form marks as required. A correct berth preference cannot compensate for an incorrect passenger or journey detail.
The fare changes after returning to the results
Use the latest displayed fare and availability. Do not rely on the amount you saw during an earlier search, because inventory and the applicable booking conditions can change before payment. Recheck the total on the final summary.
How to plan around dated service information
The initial Howrah–Kamakhya service is useful as a reference for identifying the product, but it should not be treated as a live network directory. The 2026 announcements establish the following historical facts:
- Train 27576 was announced as Kamakhya–Howrah, with the paired service identified as 27575.
- Bookings opened at 08:00 on 19 January 2026.
- Initial commercial departures were scheduled from Kamakhya on 22 January and Howrah on 23 January 2026.
- The ministry reported that tickets for the inaugural first-day journey sold within 24 hours.
- The 6 February 2026 parliamentary answer described regular operation beginning 22 January and a six-day pattern that omitted Wednesday from Kamakhya and Thursday from Howrah.
None of those statements establishes your current fare, quota, booking window, route list, service day, berth map or cancellation terms. Verify each operational detail in the live reservation system for your own date.
