To hide one advertiser’s ads on TikTok, open Profile → Menu (☰) → Settings and privacy → Ads → Mute advertisers, select the advertiser from the list of advertisers you recently saw, and hide it. In a browser, use Profile → Settings → Ads → Mute advertisers. TikTok’s control is temporary rather than a permanent block, and it does not remove advertising from your feed altogether.
What TikTok’s advertiser control actually does
TikTok calls its one-advertiser control Mute advertisers. It is designed for advertisers whose ads you recently saw, not for searching every business on TikTok and creating a permanent block list. After you hide an advertiser, TikTok says ads from that advertiser will be suppressed for 28 days. The 28-day period is an operational limit published by the TikTok Help Center page current on October 13, 2026.
That distinction matters: muting one advertiser does not make TikTok ad-free, does not block organic posts from the business, and does not prevent ads from other advertisers in the same industry. When the hide period ends, the advertiser can become eligible to show ads again. TikTok also changes menu names and available controls by region; some accounts see Advertiser settings instead of Mute advertisers.

Hide a particular advertiser in the TikTok app
Use this route when a specific sponsored post or repeated campaign is the problem.
- Open TikTok and tap Profile.
- Tap the Menu button (☰).
- Choose Settings and privacy.
- Open Ads.
- Tap Mute advertisers. If your region uses a different label, look for Advertiser settings in the Ads area.
- Choose the advertiser you want to hide, then confirm the hide action.
The list is based on advertisers whose ads you recently saw, so it may not contain every business you remember encountering. The action applies to that advertiser’s ads; it is not a general keyword, account, or topic block.
If you are acting immediately after seeing an ad, note the sponsor’s displayed name before leaving the post. A product name, parent company, and agency can look different. The name in the mute list is the identifier TikTok associates with the advertising account, so it may not match the wording in the creative exactly.

Hide an advertiser on TikTok’s website
If you use TikTok in a desktop or mobile browser, open your profile menu and follow this documented path:
- Open your Profile.
- Open Settings.
- Select Ads.
- Choose Mute advertisers.
- Select the advertiser and confirm.
The web control has the same purpose as the app control: it suppresses ads from advertisers shown in your recently seen list for the stated limited period. If the item is missing, check the regional label Advertiser settings and remember that TikTok’s settings vary by location.
App and web settings may not display identical wording at the same time. Do not assume that a missing button means the advertiser cannot be muted; first check the Ads section carefully, update the app or try the web version, and look for the alternate regional label. If neither version shows an advertiser control, it may not be available for your account or location.
Mute advertisers, ad topics, and off-TikTok activity: choose the right control
These settings solve different problems. The table keeps their scope and timing separate so you do not use a category control when you need to hide one named advertiser.

In practical terms, use the narrowest control that matches your objective. A single unwanted company calls for Mute advertisers. A whole class of products calls for Manage ad topics. Concern about how activity on other websites influences ads calls for the off-TikTok controls. Difficulty identifying the sponsor calls for the Commercial Content Library before you return to Ads settings.
When you want fewer ads about a subject
If the issue is a category—such as a type of product or service—use TikTok’s topic preference instead of trying to mute individual businesses.

- Open your profile and the menu.
- Go to Settings and privacy → Ads.
- Open Manage ad topics.
- Choose a listed topic and select See less.
Topic preferences reduce ads associated with that subject; they do not name or block one advertiser. TikTok’s localized help information says the change may take up to 48 hours to appear. During that interval, seeing related ads does not necessarily mean the setting failed. The exact topic groups and wording can differ between localized versions of TikTok.
This setting is useful when several unrelated advertisers are promoting the same kind of thing. It is not a substitute for muting a business: an advertiser can still appear if its campaign is classified differently, if the ad is associated with another topic, or if the ad is delivered before the preference finishes processing.
Limit the use of activity collected outside TikTok
TikTok also provides controls for whether recent advertisers can use off-TikTok activity for ad personalization. This is a data-use choice, not an advertiser mute. Turning it off can change why an ad is selected without guaranteeing that ads from that company stop appearing.
- Open Settings and privacy from your profile.
- Enter Ads and open the available ad-personalization controls.
- Where your location and account settings provide the option, disconnect recent advertisers from use of off-TikTok activity.
- If offered, clear your external or off-TikTok activity data and confirm.
TikTok’s localized help page says a disconnection can take up to 30 days. The control may not be present for every account: TikTok ties it to particular ad-personalization settings and locations. Because it changes personalization inputs rather than the presence of advertising, continue using Mute advertisers when the goal is to suppress one recently seen advertiser.
Disconnecting does not erase the advertiser’s campaign from TikTok, stop ads selected using other signals, or prevent ordinary content from the business. It changes how activity from outside TikTok is used for personalization. Treat the stated 30 days as a processing window rather than an instant result, and avoid judging the change from one ad impression.
Identify an advertiser before you mute it
A sponsored post can make the business name easy to miss, especially when an agency, product line, or parent company is displayed differently from the brand you recognize. TikTok’s Commercial Content Library includes an Ad Library that can be searched by advertiser name or keyword and opened without a TikTok account. TikTok describes it this way: “You can access ads and promotional posts from the Ad Library and other commercial content library at library.tiktok.com.”

Searching the library does not itself alter your feed, hide an ad, or notify the advertiser.
The library is useful for confirming an advertiser’s name or examining an ad, but it is not a feed-blocking switch. Its stated current coverage is limited to ads available to users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. An advertiser may therefore be absent if the ad falls outside that coverage or if your search terms do not match the library entry. Do not treat an empty result as proof that the business never advertised on TikTok.
Why an advertiser’s ad may still appear
The hide period is limited
Mute advertisers is not a permanent account-level block. Once TikTok’s stated suppression window ends, the same advertiser can qualify to show ads again. If you need to act again, return to the Ads settings and check the current muted-advertiser list.

The ad came from a different advertiser
Businesses in the same category can use similar creative, slogans, or landing pages. Muting one entry affects that advertiser only. Check the sponsor label on the new post rather than assuming it belongs to the business you previously hid. A parent company, reseller, franchise, or agency may be listed separately.
You changed a topic preference instead of muting a business
See less under Manage ad topics works at the subject level. It can reduce a category while still allowing individual advertisers in that category to serve ads. Use the advertiser-specific control when the name matters.
The setting is still processing
Topic changes may take up to 48 hours, and off-TikTok disconnections may take up to 30 days. Allow the applicable processing period before judging those settings by a single ad impression. The advertiser mute itself is governed by its own limited suppression period.
Your regional menu is different
TikTok localizes both labels and availability. Look under Settings and privacy → Ads in the app or Settings → Ads on the web. If you see Advertiser settings, open it and look for the advertiser-muting list. If no such control is available, TikTok may not offer it for that account or location.
You are seeing an ordinary post, not an ad
The advertiser control concerns ads. A company’s unpaid video, a creator’s independent review, or a repost can remain visible because muting an advertiser does not block organic posts. Use TikTok’s separate account, content, or reporting tools if the concern is noncommercial content.
The sponsor is being confused with the product
An ad may promote one product while the paying advertiser is a parent company or a different legal entity. Confirm the sponsor name in the ad and, when necessary, use the Commercial Content Library to distinguish the advertiser from the brand or product shown.
A practical decision path
- One named business is the problem: use Mute advertisers.
- An entire subject is unwanted: open Manage ad topics and choose See less.
- You want less targeting based on activity elsewhere: review the off-TikTok activity and advertiser-disconnection controls, if available for your account.
- You cannot tell who paid for the ad: search the Commercial Content Library, keeping its EEA, Switzerland, and UK coverage in mind.
- You want to stop seeing a company’s unpaid videos: advertiser muting is not the right tool; use the relevant TikTok account or content controls instead.
Applying more than one setting is possible when your goals differ. For example, you can mute a named advertiser and separately choose See less for a broad topic. Do not expect the broader setting to extend the 28-day advertiser mute or the advertiser mute to change off-TikTok data use.
What these controls cannot do
- They do not remove all TikTok advertising.
- They do not turn an advertiser’s ordinary, non-paid posts into blocked content.
- They do not guarantee that a related company, agency, or separate advertiser will be hidden.
- They do not make topic preferences or off-TikTok data controls equivalent to a one-advertiser mute.
- They do not override regional differences in TikTok’s settings or the coverage limits of the Commercial Content Library.
- They do not provide a permanent block after the 28-day suppression period expires.
- They do not guarantee immediate changes when TikTok states a processing period of up to 48 hours or 30 days.
For the narrow goal in this article—avoiding one advertiser—the reliable sequence is to identify the sponsor, open the Ads settings, and use the advertiser-specific mute. Use topic and data-personalization controls only when your goal is broader than one business.

TikTok’s documented control is time-limited. It says ads from a hidden advertiser will not appear for 28 days. TikTok does not describe this setting as a permanent block or an ad-free mode.
Why is the advertiser I want missing from the list?
The list is based on advertisers whose ads you recently saw, so it is not a directory of every business on TikTok. The ad may also have been served by a related advertiser, or the control may be labeled Advertiser settings in your region.
How long do topic preferences take to work?
TikTok’s localized help information says changes to ad-topic preferences can take up to 48 hours to appear. Seeing a related ad during that period does not by itself show that the preference failed.
