There is no single One UI switch that removes every advertisement from a Galaxy phone. Use the control that matches where the ad appears: Samsung Internet can block pop-ups and use content-filtering add-ons; lock-screen ads usually come from a third-party app or a browser setting; and Samsung’s customization controls reduce personalized marketing rather than removing ads from web pages.
Start by identifying the location of the ad, then follow the matching steps below. Menu names and availability can differ by Galaxy model, region, One UI release and Samsung Internet version.
Choose the setting that matches the ad
Different ad types require different fixes. A browser pop-up is controlled by the browser, while a promotional image in another app is controlled by that app. A charging-screen promotion may be supplied by a feature such as Samsung Global Goals. One UI’s privacy and marketing controls do not create a phone-wide ad blocker.

Block pop-ups in Samsung Internet
Samsung’s US support instructions place the pop-up switch in Samsung Internet’s Privacy dashboard. This prevents sites from opening separate pop-up windows in that browser; it does not remove every advertisement displayed inside a page.

- Tap Menu, shown as three horizontal lines.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Privacy dashboard.
- Turn on Block pop-ups.
Return to the page that produced the pop-up and reload it. If the page still contains banners, video ads or sponsored links within the page layout, use an ad-blocker add-on as described next. The pop-up switch is a browser behavior setting, not a universal One UI filter.
Block pop-ups is most useful when a site launches a separate window or repeatedly opens a new tab. It is not a promise that a page will become ad-free: advertisements built into the page, sponsored search results and content delivered through another app remain outside this switch’s scope.
Use a Samsung Internet ad-blocker add-on for broader page filtering
Samsung Internet can obtain filter lists from compatible third-party ad-blocking apps. This is the documented way to filter more than pop-up windows inside Samsung Internet. Samsung notes that some available add-ons may require payment, and the list can vary by device, store and region.
Install and enable a blocker
- Open Samsung Internet.
- Open the browser controls. Depending on the release, tap Menu (three lines) or the Tools icon.
- Tap Ad blockers.
- Select an available blocker and tap its install or download control.
- After installation, verify that the blocker’s switch is on. Samsung’s newer instructions say an installed blocker is enabled automatically and appears in the installed list, where you can change its switch.
Reload open tabs after enabling a blocker. A filter can hide advertising elements and trackers recognized by its lists, but no filter catches every advertising format. Some sites may look different, fail to load a feature or ask you to disable blocking. If a trusted site breaks, temporarily switch the blocker off for that site, if the add-on provides a site exception, rather than disabling all privacy protections.
An add-on is tied to Samsung Internet’s filtering system. Installing one does not filter advertisements in Chrome, a game, a social network, a streaming service or an app that draws its own promotional interface. Choose the browser add-on because the unwanted content is in Samsung Internet, not because it is expected to clean the whole phone.
How many blockers can run at once?
Samsung’s developer documentation says Samsung Internet can enable and use up to five ad-blocking apps simultaneously. That is a technical maximum, not a recommendation to install five. Multiple filters can duplicate rules, increase troubleshooting difficulty and make a broken site harder to diagnose. Start with one compatible blocker, confirm the result, and add another only when you understand why it is needed.
The developer guide is intended for people building ad-blocking integrations. Ordinary users do not need developer mode to install and manage a blocker from Samsung Internet’s Ad blockers menu.

Check what Samsung Internet is blocking
Samsung Internet’s Privacy dashboard reports blocked content, including ads and trackers. Open Samsung Internet, tap Menu, choose Settings, and open the privacy area to view the browser’s report. The dashboard can also expose safety options such as warnings about malicious sites and controls for automatic downloads.

Use this report to determine whether a page is generating blocked requests. The count is a browser privacy indicator, not a promise that every visible ad has disappeared and not a measurement of blocking across other apps. A page can still display an unrecognized ad even when the dashboard shows blocked requests, while a page element may disappear for reasons unrelated to advertising.
Remove ads that appear on the lock screen
Samsung’s support page titled How to remove the lock screen Ads states: “Samsung does not place ads on the lock screen.” According to that guidance, lock-screen promotions are usually caused by a third-party app or by browser settings. Treat a lock-screen ad as an investigation into the app or setting that is displaying it, not as a missing One UI ad-block switch.
Review recent apps first
- Think back to when the lock-screen ads began.
- Open Settings > Apps and review apps installed or updated around that time.
- Start with apps that show notifications, wallpapers, launchers, battery tools, cleaners, games or other content over the lock screen.
- Open an app’s notification and permission settings and look for permission to appear on top of other apps or to show notifications on the lock screen.
- Uninstall or disable one suspicious app at a time, then lock the phone and observe whether the ad returns.
- If the ads stop, leave the suspected app removed or contact its developer. If they continue, restore the app only if necessary and test the next candidate.
Testing one change at a time identifies the source and avoids removing several useful apps unnecessarily. Do not assume that the most recently opened app is responsible; use installation and update history as the starting clue.

A web page or notification can make an advertisement appear to be a system lock-screen message. Review Samsung Internet’s site notifications, pop-up setting and recently visited sites. If you use another browser, inspect that browser’s own notification and pop-up controls; Samsung Internet’s settings do not govern it.
Check Samsung Global Goals on the charging screen
Samsung identifies a specific exception: when Samsung Global Goals is configured, advertisements can appear on the charging screen. Open the Global Goals app and look for its charging-screen option, labeled Charge screen ads, then turn that control off if you do not want those promotions. This setting addresses Global Goals charging-screen content; it does not explain every idle lock-screen ad.
Distinguish an ad shown only while the phone is connected to a charger from one shown whenever the display wakes. That timing is a useful diagnostic clue. If the promotion appears only during charging, check Global Goals before removing unrelated apps. If it appears while the phone is idle or waking normally, continue reviewing third-party apps and browser notifications.

Reduce personalized Samsung marketing
Personalization controls change how marketing is tailored to you. They do not function as a content blocker for advertisements embedded in websites or apps.

- Tap Privacy.
- Open Customisation Service. Samsung’s spelling and menu labels can vary by market.
- Turn off Customise this phone.
- Turn off Customised ads and direct marketing.
- If the page provides an Ads section, open it and choose Opt out of Ads Personalization.
These choices may reduce personalization or direct marketing associated with Samsung services. They do not stop a news app from displaying its own ads, prevent a website from serving banners, or remove a third-party app that is showing content over the lock screen. Exact options and their availability depend on the market and software version.
Turning these choices off can make Samsung marketing less tailored, but it does not necessarily reduce the number of advertisements shown by a service. That distinction matters: personalization determines how an ad is selected, whereas a browser blocker attempts to filter page content or requests.
Why One UI settings do not block ads everywhere
Samsung Internet’s pop-up switch, its add-ons and its privacy dashboard operate within Samsung Internet. They do not establish a device-wide filter for games, social apps, streaming apps, another browser or advertisements rendered by an app’s own interface.
Likewise, opting out of personalized advertising changes marketing preferences rather than the network requests made by every app. To address an ad in another app, use that app’s subscription or advertising settings, revoke inappropriate permissions, update it, or uninstall it. If the ad is caused by an app that displays over other apps, removing that source is more relevant than changing Samsung Internet.
When menu labels do not match
Samsung uses both Samsung Internet and Samsung Browser in its support material. One regional guide places ad blockers under a Tools menu, while another shows them under the main browser Menu. A Galaxy model purchased in one market can therefore show a different order, spelling or availability from a model purchased elsewhere.
- Update Samsung Internet and your phone software before looking for a missing control.
- Check both the three-line Menu and the Tools icon inside Samsung Internet.
- Search the browser settings for Privacy dashboard, Block pop-ups or Ad blockers.
- Use support information for the phone’s purchase market when a feature is absent.
- Do not assume that a control documented for one Galaxy model is present on every model or regional build.
Samsung’s regional support guidance specifically warns that models, menu order and settings can vary by location and purchase market. A missing menu item can therefore indicate a software or regional difference rather than a fault.

Troubleshoot ads that remain
The pop-up switch is on, but pop-ups continue
- Confirm that the page is open in Samsung Internet, not another browser or an in-app web view.
- Reload the tab after changing the switch.
- Clear the browser’s site data if one site continues to reopen a pop-up, then sign in again if required.
- Install and enable a compatible ad-blocker add-on for page-level filtering.
- Test a different site. If only one site is affected, its scripts may be using an advertising method that the current filter does not recognize.
The page is cleaner, but some content is missing
- Temporarily disable the installed blocker and reload the page.
- If the page works, re-enable the blocker and use its site-exception feature, if available.
- Avoid enabling several filters at once while diagnosing a compatibility problem.
Ads appear after installing an app
- Review apps installed or updated immediately before the behavior began.
- Check overlay, notification and lock-screen notification permissions.
- Uninstall one suspect at a time and test the lock screen after each change.
- Reinstall only from a source you trust, and read the app’s permissions before granting them.
The ad appears only while charging
Check Samsung Global Goals and its Charge screen ads control first. If Global Goals is not configured, inspect recently installed apps and lock-screen notification sources instead.
Samsung’s personalization switch did not remove the ad
That result is expected when the advertisement is part of a web page or another app. Personalization settings alter targeting and marketing preferences; they are not replacements for Samsung Internet’s pop-up switch or an ad-blocker add-on.
The ad blocker is installed but has no visible effect
First confirm that the page is open in Samsung Internet and that the blocker’s switch is enabled in the installed list. Then reload the tab. A blocker works from its filter lists, so an ad format not covered by those lists may remain visible. If several blockers are enabled, turn off the extras while testing so you can identify which filter is helping or causing a page problem.

- Apply the narrow control: enable Block pop-ups for browser pop-ups; install an Ad blocker for broader Samsung Internet filtering; inspect the source app for lock-screen or in-app ads.
- Separate privacy from filtering: use Customisation Service and Ads settings only when your goal is less personalized Samsung marketing.
- Test after each change: reload a page or lock the phone and wait for the condition that normally triggers the ad.

What these settings can and cannot promise
Samsung documents the controls as browser and service-specific features. Block pop-ups prevents a class of browser behavior. An ad-blocker add-on filters content according to its lists. The privacy dashboard reports blocked requests and provides related safety controls. Customisation Service changes personalization choices. None of these statements means that every advertisement on the phone will be removed.
Availability, compatibility and cost also vary. Samsung says some browser ad-blocker add-ons may be paid, and the available list depends on the device and region. The five-blocker limit documented by Samsung Developers is a simultaneous-use limit, not an effectiveness score. No published Samsung support statistic establishes a percentage of ads that a Galaxy phone will block.

Can One UI block every ad on my Samsung Galaxy phone?
