There is no verified way to beat The Hunt yet. As of October 13, 2026, Phantom Blade Zero had not released, and the official material available before launch did not show The Hunt’s phases, attacks, telegraphs, punish windows, recommended equipment, or button-by-button solutions. The announced release date is October 29, 2026 (October 28 in the United States and select regions).
What can be established is The Hunt’s story role and where the encounter fits in the opening. This page separates confirmed information from speculation so you do not waste time following an invented pre-release walkthrough.

What is confirmed about The Hunt?
The Hunt is one of Soul’s former comrades
Soulframe Liang, founder and CEO of S-GAME, describes The Hunt as one of Soul’s former comrades. The official pre-order announcement says Soul crosses blades with The Hunt during the opening moments of his journey. That makes the character an early story confrontation, not a boss whose details have been documented in a released endgame build.
“Battling enemies atop a speeding wagon and crossing blades with former comrades like The Hunt are just the opening moments of Soul’s journey.”

The wagon reference is not proof of a wagon boss fight
The same announcement mentions battling enemies atop a speeding wagon. Its wording places wagon combat and the duel with The Hunt in the opening section, but it does not explicitly say that The Hunt is fought on the wagon. Treating those as the same scene is an assumption unless released gameplay confirms it.
Why a reliable walkthrough is not available yet
A useful boss guide requires a playable encounter that can be repeated. The pre-release sources do not establish The Hunt’s attack list, phase changes, defensive options, damage thresholds, arena layout, camera behavior, or safe punish opportunities. Trailer footage is not enough to infer those details reliably: edited clips can omit attacks, change the order of events, or show a cinematic rather than a repeatable combat sequence.
A fan guide index has stated that it is holding encounter guides until the released game can be verified. That is an editorial status update from that site, not evidence that every other guide is accurate or that no unofficial video exists. Until the retail encounter is tested, any page promising exact counters or a guaranteed build is making claims the cited official material does not support.

When does Phantom Blade Zero release?
The announced release date is October 29, 2026. The official announcement notes an earlier date of October 28 for the United States and select regions. On October 13, 2026, that announced date was still in the future, so no retail-build testing could support a conventional strategy guide at that time.

What the announced difficulty options tell you
Wayfarer
The official gameplay overview characterizes Wayfarer as suitable for players who want to enjoy the story. That description indicates an accessibility and story-focus goal, but it does not demonstrate how The Hunt’s health, damage, reaction speed, or move set changes.
Hellwalker
The same overview describes Hellwalker as featuring more advanced, adaptive enemy intelligence. “Adaptive” is an official description of the difficulty’s enemy behavior; it is not proof that The Hunt gains a particular phase, attack, or counter on that setting.

If your priority is seeing the narrative with less pressure, Wayfarer is the setting the official description associates with that goal. If you want the challenge implied by more advanced enemy intelligence, Hellwalker is the option described that way. Neither description establishes a The Hunt-specific recommendation. You can make a responsible choice based on those broad characteristics, then change difficulty later only if the finished game permits it.

How to prepare for The Hunt without relying on spoilers or guesses
Until the game is playable, preparation should focus on preserving your ability to learn the encounter rather than copying unverified instructions.
- Install the launch update before testing. Record the game version shown on the title screen or system information. A later balance patch can change timing, damage, or enemy behavior.
- Record your platform and difficulty. Note that you are playing the PlayStation 5 release, the selected difficulty, and any accessibility settings. This makes another player’s advice comparable to your own situation.
- Reach the encounter without changing multiple variables. If you are testing a weapon, skill, or upgrade, change one meaningful factor at a time. Otherwise you cannot tell what actually affected the result.
- Observe before committing resources. Use an early attempt to identify the arena boundaries, camera limits, recovery opportunities, and whether the fight has a transition. Do not assume a trailer animation is a combat tell.
- Capture repeatable evidence. A useful tactic should work across several attempts, not just once during a cinematic or a favorable random sequence. Note the attack that creates the opening, your response, and what happens when the timing is early or late.
- Check whether the encounter is mandatory. The official material places the clash in Soul’s opening journey, but does not provide a mission map or optional-content rules. Confirm the finished game’s objective before spending time searching for a hidden route.
What a verified The Hunt guide should contain after launch
A trustworthy walkthrough should identify the exact build and conditions under which its advice works. Look for these details rather than a title alone:
- The game version or patch number.
- Platform and region, when release timing or frame behavior matters.
- Difficulty setting and any accessibility modifiers.
- The mission or checkpoint where The Hunt appears.
- Clear descriptions of each phase, including the event that triggers a transition.
- Observable telegraphs for attacks, with a distinction between attacks that can be blocked, parried, dodged, or interrupted.
- Specific responses that are demonstrated repeatedly, not inferred from a single trailer frame.
- Any arena hazards, wagon movement, camera restrictions, or scripted sequences that affect positioning.
- Recommended equipment only when the guide explains why it helps and whether alternatives work.
- A recovery plan for failed attempts, including where the nearest checkpoint is and which resources are restored.
This standard matters especially for an opening boss. Early-game equipment, unlocked skills, and tutorial constraints may differ from those in preview footage or a later save. Advice that works on one difficulty or patch should not be presented as universal.

“The Hunt is definitely fought on the wagon”
The announcement confirms both wagon battles and a clash with The Hunt in the opening, but does not join those statements into one event. Wait for unedited retail gameplay or direct in-game confirmation before treating a moving wagon as the arena.

“This is the guaranteed counter”
No official source has published a guaranteed counter. A clip can demonstrate one successful response without proving that it works against every variation, difficulty, or phase.
“Hellwalker is required” or “Wayfarer is the easy mode for this boss”
The official overview gives broad descriptions of the settings, not encounter-specific outcomes. Do not turn those descriptions into a The Hunt recommendation without testing the finished fight.
Trailer frames presented as complete mechanics
Promotional footage establishes that a scene exists or that a character is present. It does not, by itself, establish hitbox behavior, stamina costs, invulnerability frames, damage values, or the order in which attacks occur during a normal attempt.
When should this page become a full strategy guide?
Only after the retail encounter can be reproduced should this page add phase-by-phase instructions, equipment comparisons, timing advice, or difficulty-specific recommendations. At that point, the guide should state the tested version, platform, and difficulty next to the tactics so readers know whether the instructions match their game.
For now, the accurate answer to “How do I beat The Hunt?” is that no verified pre-release method has been published. The Hunt is confirmed as a former comrade encountered near the beginning of Soul’s journey; the details needed to defeat the character are still unknown until the game is available to play.
