To unban a player, use the server’s RCON console and run unbanplayer <userid|platformid>, then confirm with listbans. If that command is unavailable on your build, stop the server, back up and edit /ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt, remove the player’s entry, save the file, and restart the server.
Ban syntax is less consistent across Conan Exiles versions and server panels. Treat commands such as /ban <PlayerID> and AdminBan as unverified until your own console’s help output confirms them.

What you need before changing a ban
These procedures require administrative access to the dedicated server. You need either an RCON console (usually exposed as a Console tab in a server-control panel or through an external RCON client) or file-transfer access to the server’s saved-game directory.
- Use the same server instance and environment where the ban was created. A local, rented, and self-hosted server can have different panels and command sets.
- Identify the player correctly. The documented RCON command accepts a
useridorplatformid. A character name is not a safe substitute because names can change or be duplicated. - Back up the ban file before editing it. Copy
blacklist.txtto a separate location and give the copy a date-based name. Do not overwrite your only copy. - Warn connected players before a restart. File-based changes require the server to be stopped and started again, which disconnects everyone.
There is no single, current official Funcom command reference that resolves every discrepancy reported by server administrators. Conan Exiles builds, hosting panels and cross-play configurations can expose different commands, so use the server’s own help output as the authority for what is available.

Unban a player through RCON
RCON is the least destructive route because it lets you change the ban list without manually editing a text file. The names below are the consistently documented sequence; enter one command at a time and check the result before continuing.
- Open RCON. In a provider dashboard, open the server’s Console or RCON tab. With a separate RCON client, connect to the address, port and password configured for that server.
- Check the command set. Run
help. If the console returns a command list, look forlistbansandunbanplayer. An “unknown command” response means that this interface or build does not expose that command. - Display current bans. Run
listbans. Record the exact identifier shown for the player. Depending on the server, this may be labeled a user ID or platform ID. - Remove the ban. Run
unbanplayer <userid>orunbanplayer <platformid>, replacing the bracketed value with the identifier returned bylistbans. Do not include the angle brackets. - Confirm the change. Run
listbansagain. The player’s entry should no longer be present. If it remains, repeat the command with the other identifier shown for that entry rather than guessing from the player’s name.
Example command shape (with a placeholder ID) is:
listbans
unbanplayer 12345678901234567
listbansThe number in this example is illustrative only; use the ID printed by your server. Do not copy it as a real player identifier.
If RCON accepts the command but the player still cannot join
- Check
listbansagain after the command. If the entry is still listed, the command did not remove the active record. - Make sure you edited the correct server profile. A panel can contain several Conan Exiles instances, each with its own ban list.
- Ask the player to reconnect using the same platform account that was unbanned. A different account or platform identity will produce a different ID.
- If the console reports that
unbanplayeris unknown, use the file method below rather than repeatedly trying unverified variants.
Unban by editing blacklist.txt
Use this fallback when RCON is unavailable or does not expose unbanplayer. The server must be offline while the file is changed; editing a live file can be overwritten when the process shuts down.

- Stop the server cleanly from the control panel or service manager. Wait until its status shows that the process has fully stopped.
- Open the saved-data directory and locate
/ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt. The exact parent directory can differ by installation, but the relative path and filename are the documented target. - Create a backup. Download or copy the file before making any change. Keep the original contents intact until the player has successfully rejoined.
- Open the file as plain text and locate the line corresponding to the banned account. Match the complete identifier, not a partial string or display name.
- Delete only that line. Leave every other entry unchanged, preserve the file as plain text, and save it as
blacklist.txtin the same directory. - Start the server and wait for it to finish loading. Have the player try to connect only after the server is accepting players.
- Restore the backup if necessary. If the server fails to load the list or unrelated players are affected, stop it, restore the backup, and start again before troubleshooting further.
Why the line format can be confusing
Published administrator guides describe different formats for entries in this file. One description uses an account ID followed by an account name, while another describes a Steam64-style platform ID. Because those descriptions conflict and can reflect different builds or configurations, do not delete a line solely because the visible name looks right. Use the identifier from your own listbans output, the player’s confirmed platform account, or a matching record supplied by your panel.
How to ban a player
Unlike unbanning, the ban command is not consistently documented. Administrators have reported several forms, including /ban <PlayerID>, AdminBan, and unban <playername> in contexts where the wording or purpose differs. Another administrator guide states that the game has no kick or ban console command at all. These claims cannot all describe the same interface.
For that reason, do not assume that a command copied from another server will work on yours. First determine which ban mechanism your installation exposes.

- Open the server console or RCON interface.
- Run
helpand read the returned command list. Search for entries containing “ban,” “admin,” or “blacklist.” - Check the panel’s player-management page. Some panels provide a ban action even when the in-game console does not.
- Test only with a controlled account or during a maintenance window. Record the exact identifier used and verify the result with
listbansif that command exists. - Document the working syntax for your server’s version, including whether it requires a user ID, platform ID, or another value.

The table separates what is consistently documented from reports that conflict. It is not a guarantee that every listed command exists on your server.
Using a panel or an in-game administrator menu
Some hosting dashboards expose a Banned Players or player-management page with an Unban button. Other guides explicitly say that no in-game unban exists and require a panel or FTP/file edit. Both experiences have been reported, and the available controls can change with the server build or dashboard.

- Open the server’s player or moderation section.
- Choose Banned Players (the label may differ).
- Select the account by its platform or account ID, not just its display name.
- Choose Unban, confirm the action, and wait for the panel to report success.
- Use RCON
listbans, when available, to verify that the entry disappeared.
If there is no such control, do not infer that the feature is hidden in an unrelated menu. Use RCON or the stopped-server file procedure instead.

“Unknown command” appears after unbanplayer
The console you opened may not be the game’s RCON interface, RCON may be disabled, or your build may not support that command. Run help and verify the connection target. If the command is absent, stop the server and remove the matching line from blacklist.txt.
listbans returns no useful name
Use the identifier rather than the display name. Confirm which platform account was banned and compare the complete value with the player’s account details. Do not remove entries by partial matches; two IDs can share digits, and names can change.

The player is still banned after a file edit
Confirm that the server was stopped before the edit, that the file was saved at exactly /ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt, and that you restarted the same server instance. Restore the backup if the file was malformed, then repeat the edit with a verified identifier.
Other players are affected after editing
Stop the server immediately and restore the untouched backup. This usually indicates that more than one line was removed, the wrong file was edited, or the file’s structure was changed. Do not attempt further edits until the original file is back in place.
The panel’s ban button and RCON disagree
Use one control path at a time. After a panel action, verify with listbans if available. If the panel shows a different state from RCON, treat the RCON list and the actual connection behavior as separate checks and contact the panel operator with the server instance, account ID and timestamp.
Safe moderation practices
- Record the reason and identifier for every ban in a private administrator log. This avoids confusing similarly named accounts.
- Use temporary bans carefully. The documented commands above describe adding or removing entries, not an expiration timer. Do not promise automatic expiry unless your panel explicitly provides it.
- Back up before bulk moderation. A dated copy of
blacklist.txtmakes accidental removals reversible. - Restrict RCON credentials. Anyone who can issue RCON commands can potentially alter moderation data. Use the panel’s access controls and rotate credentials if they are exposed.
- Announce restarts. The file method interrupts every connected player; schedule it during a quiet period.
- Keep a version note. Write down the game/server version, panel name and the command that worked. This is valuable after updates change the available console commands.

Bottom line
For a supported RCON setup, unbanplayer followed by listbans is the clearest documented route. When RCON does not provide those commands, the dependable fallback is a stopped server, a backed-up /ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt, removal of the exact player entry, and a restart. Ban syntax and in-game unban controls remain inconsistent across reported Conan Exiles setups, so verify them with your own help output or panel before using them.
