Godlike.Host offers hosted Arma 3 servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Arma 3 Epoch stores its persistent game state in Redis’s dump.rdb snapshot. A dependable backup is therefore a copy of that file, made after Redis has written a current snapshot. Stop the game server first when you can, force a snapshot with BGSAVE or SAVE, then copy dump.rdb to a separate location. To restore progress, stop Redis or the game server, replace the active file with the saved copy, and start the services again.
The exact folder is not universal. Hosted servers commonly expose an arma/DB directory over FTP, while local Redis installations may place the file in a user profile. If you cannot find it, check Redis’s configured dir setting rather than guessing.
What the backup contains
dump.rdb is Redis’s snapshot file. For an Epoch server, community documentation associates it with persistent player and server data, including player state, bank balances, vehicles, base or buildable objects, and trader-inventory data. Replacing the file rolls Redis back to the state captured in that snapshot, so any changes made after the snapshot are not present in the restored database.
This is a database backup, not a complete Arma 3 server backup. It does not replace copies of your mission files, server configuration, mods, logs, or executable files. Keep those items separately if you need to rebuild the entire server.

Find the active dump.rdb file
Redis writes the snapshot into the directory specified by its dir configuration. The location can vary with Redis version, installation method, and hosting provider.
Hosted servers and FTP panels
On Nitrado-style hosting, community instructions place the database in the server’s arma/DB directory. Connect with the provider’s FTP credentials, open that directory, and look for a file named exactly dump.rdb. Do not rename the live file before you have made a verified copy.

Local Windows Redis installations
A community note distinguishes older and newer Redis 2.8 builds: Redis 2.8.12 and earlier were reported to use the DB folder, while Redis 2.8.16 and later were reported to use UsersUSERNAMEappdatalocalredis. Treat those paths as clues, not universal rules; the note is based on a forum report and may not match your installation.
Check the dir setting
Open the Redis configuration file used by the running service and find the dir line. That directory is the authoritative place to look for dump.rdb. If Redis was started with a different configuration file than the one you opened, inspect the service or startup command to identify the active configuration. A search for dump.rdb can help, but always confirm that the file belongs to the Redis instance serving Epoch.

Confirm you have the right instance
- Check that the file’s path matches the Redis service used by your Epoch server.
- Compare the file’s modification time with a known server shutdown or save.
- If several Redis installations exist, identify the one listening on the host and port configured for Epoch.
Make a consistent manual backup
The safest copy is made while the game server is stopped. This prevents writes during the operation and gives Redis a quiet period in which to finish its snapshot.
- Announce a maintenance window. Tell players that the server will be unavailable and record the time. A restore later will return the database to a specific point, so a timestamp helps you identify the correct archive.
- Stop the Arma 3 Epoch server. Use the hosting panel’s stop action or the service command you normally use. Wait until the process has exited.
- Force a fresh Redis snapshot. From the Redis command-line client, run
BGSAVEorSAVE. For a password-protected local Redis instance, a command can look like this:

- Wait for the save to complete. Do not copy the file while Redis is still writing the snapshot. With
BGSAVE, Redis performs the save in the background; wait for the command to report completion or for the file’s timestamp and size to stop changing.SAVEperforms a foreground save, so the command does not return until the operation has finished. On a busy or large database, this can make Redis temporarily unresponsive; schedule it during maintenance. - Copy, do not move, the file. Copy
dump.rdbfrom the configured Redis directory to a backup directory, another disk, or an off-server storage location. Leave the original name and location unchanged. - Give the archive a timestamp. For example, name the copy
Epoch-2026-10-14-2300.rdb. Keep the original.rdbextension so it is obvious that the file is a Redis snapshot. - Verify the copy. Confirm that the destination file exists, has a plausible non-zero size, and has the expected timestamp. If your operating system provides a checksum tool, recording a checksum gives you an additional way to detect later corruption.
- Start the server. Restart Redis if you stopped it, then start the Arma 3 server and watch the first startup for errors. Keep the archived copy unchanged.
Back up from a Windows server automatically
A community Windows method uses a batch file that calls redis-cli save, renames the resulting snapshot with an Epoch-year-month-day-hour pattern, and copies it to another directory. The following template shows the sequence; change every path and credential for your installation.

Set DB_DIR to the directory from Redis’s active dir setting. The script assumes that the Redis client can authenticate and that the account running it can read the database file and write the backup directory. Test the file manually before scheduling the script. If your provider or Redis version requires a different host, port, or authentication option, update the redis-cli line accordingly.
Schedule an hourly task
Windows Task Scheduler can run the script on an hourly trigger. An administrator command prompt can create a task like this:

Configure the task’s “Run whether user is logged on or not” and account permissions in Task Scheduler if the backup directory is not accessible to the default account. After creating the task, run it once from Task Scheduler and confirm that a newly timestamped .rdb file appears.
Prevent silent failures
- Keep the Redis password out of folders readable by ordinary users when possible; a batch file containing the password is plain text.
- Make the script exit when
redis-clireturns an error, rather than copying an old snapshot and presenting it as new. - Use a destination outside the Redis data directory. A disk failure or accidental deletion should not remove both the live file and every backup.
- Retain more than one timestamp. A newly created snapshot can still reflect an application problem or an unwanted change.
Back up on Linux
The arma3epoch-debian package includes a redis_backup script. Community descriptions say that it copies the Redis dump, compresses and archives the copy, and can be run manually or from cron.

Run the supplied script manually
Use the path installed by your package and run it with the account that has access to Redis’s data directory. A generic invocation is:
/path/to/redis_backupUse the package’s actual installation path; do not create a second script that points at a guessed database directory. After it completes, inspect the archive location and confirm that a new compressed backup was produced.
Schedule it with cron
Once a manual run succeeds, add a cron entry for the desired frequency. For an hourly run, the pattern is:
0 * * * * /path/to/redis_backupReplace the path with the installed script and choose a user whose environment and permissions match the successful manual test. Redirect output to a protected log if you need to diagnose failures, and periodically verify that the archive directory is actually receiving new files.

Choose a retention and storage plan
A single copy protects you only from one failure. Keep several timestamped snapshots so that you can choose a point before an accidental deletion, faulty update, or other unwanted change. Store at least one copy outside the server that runs Redis; a backup on the same disk is vulnerable to the same disk loss, filesystem damage, or administrator mistake.
- Short-term set: retain frequent snapshots for recent player changes.
- Pre-update set: make and label a snapshot immediately before an Arma 3 or Epoch update.
- Off-server set: copy archives to storage that is not mounted as the live Redis data directory.
- Access control: restrict read and write permissions because the file contains persistent player and economy data.
Do not overwrite the only known-good copy when rotating files. First create the new archive, verify it, and then remove an older copy according to your retention policy.

Restore an Epoch database from dump.rdb
Restoration replaces the live Redis snapshot. Stop the services first; replacing a file while Redis is running can leave Redis using its in-memory state or overwrite your replacement on shutdown.
- Stop the Arma 3 server. Prevent players and server scripts from making new writes.
- Stop Redis, if it runs as a separate service. On hosted control panels, stopping the game server may be the provider’s supported way to stop its Redis instance; follow the panel’s service controls.
- Preserve the current file. Before deleting anything, copy the current
dump.rdbto a quarantine filename such asdump-before-restore.rdb. This gives you a way back if the chosen archive is wrong. - Delete or move the active
dump.rdb. Community restore instructions delete the existing file in the Redis DB directory before uploading the saved copy. - Copy the selected archive into the configured Redis directory. Rename it exactly to
dump.rdb. On an FTP host, this normally means uploading it toarma/DB; confirm the provider’s current path first. - Check ownership and permissions. The account running Redis must be able to read the replacement file. A correct filename in an inaccessible directory will not load.
- Start Redis, then start Arma 3 Epoch. Watch startup logs or the hosting panel for database-load errors before allowing players to reconnect.
- Validate the restored state. Check a small set of known player, vehicle, base, bank, and trader records. If the state is not the intended one, stop again and restore the quarantined file or select a different timestamp.
Do not combine files from different snapshots. The dump.rdb file is one snapshot; mixing parts of different backups is not a supported restore method.
Understand snapshot timing and missing recent progress
Redis writes snapshots according to its configured save rules. A community note, explicitly unofficial and associated with older Redis-era guides, describes these thresholds: one change triggering a save after 900 seconds, 10 changes after 300 seconds, and 1,000 changes after 60 seconds.

These values are not a guarantee for every Redis installation. They are an unofficial forum description, and the guides that mention them commonly date from the Redis 2.8 and Arma 3 version 1.50 era. If a backup is missing the newest player actions, inspect the active Redis save configuration and force a fresh snapshot before copying the file.

Make a labeled snapshot before updating Arma 3, Epoch files, Redis, or server mods. Community guidance warns that an update can damage the database and force progress to restart. A pre-update copy gives you a known rollback point even when the update itself appears successful at first.
