ReSkate
ReSkate is a separate project with its own documented local data layout. Its README identifies an offline profile directory, a game directory containing settings and saves, a mod directory beside Skate.exe, and a launcher-settings file beside the launcher. Those paths belong to ReSkate; they are not confirmed locations for official skate. data.

Before installing or changing a mod
- Close the game and launcher. A running process can rewrite settings while you are copying them.
- Confirm the installation type. Use the official Steam skate. installation instructions if you are on the online release; use the ReSkate README if you are working with ReSkate. Do not mix their directories.
- Check Steam Cloud status for the official game. Steam’s store listing indicates whether a title uses Steam Cloud, while the in-client setting controls synchronization for your installation.
- Make a dated manual copy of ReSkate data. Copy the documented folders and files to a separate directory, such as an external drive, only when you have permission to copy the files.
- Keep the original untouched. Make changes to a duplicate or to the mod-managed installation, not to the only copy of your profile and settings.
- Record the mod order. ReSkate uses
Modsmods.jsonfor ordering. Preserve that file with the mod folders so a later restore does not silently change which mod wins a conflict.
How to check Steam Cloud before relying on it
Steam Cloud is controlled by the game’s developer and can synchronize only the files that the developer selected. Support therefore does not mean every setting, save, replay, or profile value is covered.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Open the game’s Properties.
- On the General page, locate the Steam Cloud synchronization control and note whether it is enabled.
- Check the game’s Steam store listing for the Steam Cloud indicator. This confirms whether the title advertises Cloud support, but it still does not reveal every synchronized file.
- Exit Steam normally and allow synchronization to finish before changing files. If Steam reports a conflict, do not choose a version blindly; first preserve any local files you can identify.
Steam documents that Cloud can hold game settings, save games, profile statistics, and other user-specific data. It also warns that lost Cloud data may not be recoverable. Use Cloud as convenience and synchronization, not as your only pre-mod backup and not as a guaranteed “undo” button.

The following procedure applies to ReSkate’s documented Windows paths. It does not apply to the official online release unless its current documentation explicitly says otherwise.
1. Open the ReSkate data location
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Enter
%LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateand press Enter. - Verify that the folder contains the ReSkate structure before copying anything. If the folder is absent, do not create a substitute path and assume it is correct; confirm that ReSkate is installed and that you are using the expected Windows account.
2. Copy the offline profile
Copy %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateprofilesoffline as a complete folder. Preserve every file and subfolder. This is the location the README identifies for the offline profile, so copying individual files from it can omit information that the project expects together.
3. Copy ReSkate’s game settings and saves
Copy %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateGame as a separate folder in the same backup. The README identifies this directory as containing ReSkate’s own game settings and saves. Keeping it separate from the offline profile makes it easier to restore one category without overwriting the other accidentally.
4. Copy mods and their ordering
In the ReSkate installation directory, beside Skate.exe, copy the complete Mods directory. Include each Mods<mod name> folder and Modsmods.json. A mod folder without its ordering file may load differently after restoration.
5. Copy launcher settings
Copy ReSkateLauncher.settings.json from the directory beside the ReSkate launcher. This preserves launcher preferences that are outside the profile and game-save directories.
6. Store the copy separately
Place the backup outside the active ReSkate installation. A second internal folder can help with quick recovery, while a portable external SSD provides separation from accidental edits to the game directory. No particular drive brand, capacity, or model is required by the documented procedure.
7. Label what you copied
Use a folder name containing the date and a short description such as “before-mod-change.” Keep a note of the ReSkate build and the mod order at the time of the copy. The README’s paths are project-specific and can change, so check the README for the build you actually run.

Make the backup easy to verify
A backup is more useful when you can identify exactly what it contains. Create one top-level folder for the copy, then retain the same relative structure inside it: profilesoffline, Game, Mods, the mods.json file, and ReSkateLauncher.settings.json. Do not flatten every file into one directory; the paths help you put each item back in the correct location.

Compare the copied folders with the originals after the copy finishes. Windows should show the same visible files and subfolders in both locations. If a file is still changing, locked, or reports an access error, close ReSkate and its launcher again and repeat the copy rather than assuming the backup is complete. Keep the original error message and the incomplete copy separate so you know which backup was actually usable.
The procedure does not require paid software or a particular storage capacity. A second local directory is convenient for a quick test, but it is still on the same computer. A portable external SSD is an optional separation layer, not a requirement and not a guarantee against every type of loss. Whichever destination you choose, ensure it has enough free space for the folders you are copying and that you can read the files back before modifying the active installation.
Use versioned backups instead of one constantly overwritten copy
Keep the original pre-mod snapshot and create a new dated snapshot after a change that you know works. For example, labels such as ReSkate-2026-10-17-before-mod and ReSkate-2026-10-17-mod-A-working tell you which state each folder represents. This is especially useful when a mod update changes both files and ordering. Never replace the only known-good copy with an untested one.
When removing a mod, preserve the old Mods folder and matching mods.json before installing the replacement. Two mod folders with similar names can represent different versions, so include the mod names and build date in your notes. The README documents the locations, but it does not promise that an older mod remains compatible with a newer ReSkate build.
What to do for official skate.
There is no authoritative local path and restore recipe for official skate. established in the available documentation. Do not present ReSkate’s %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkate directories as official save locations, and do not assume that a local copy protects account-backed progress in an online multiplayer title.
If you are preparing to modify the official client, first confirm whether the current game’s support documentation permits the intended change. Restoring a ReSkate backup
Restore before troubleshooting further
- Exit ReSkate and its launcher completely.
- Move the current
%LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateprofilesofflineand%LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateGamedirectories to a temporary holding folder instead of deleting them. - Copy the backed-up offline profile and Game directory into their original locations.
- Restore the backed-up
Modsdirectory besideSkate.exe, includingmods.json, if you are returning to the previous mod set. - Restore
ReSkateLauncher.settings.jsonbeside the launcher if launcher preferences also need to return to their previous state. - Start ReSkate and test the profile before adding another mod. If the problem returns, remove the newest change and test with the known-good copy.
Do not overwrite evidence prematurely
If a restore does not work, keep the moved current folders and the backup intact. Comparing them can show whether the failure is in the profile, game settings, mod files, or load order. Deleting the current files first removes that diagnostic option.
Restore only the category you need when diagnosing a problem. If the profile opens correctly but settings are wrong, begin with the backed-up Game directory instead of replacing every file. If the game fails only after mods load, restore Mods and mods.json together. This staged approach leaves a clearer record of which change fixed or caused the issue.
Common mistakes and fixes
Steam Cloud is enabled, so no manual copy is made
Why it fails: the developer controls Cloud coverage, and Steam warns that lost Cloud data may not be recoverable.
Fix: verify the setting and store indicator, then make a separate manual copy of any ReSkate files you are changing. For official skate., do not describe Cloud as a confirmed local rollback.
The ReSkate profile is copied but the game still opens with changed settings
Why it fails: ReSkate keeps its game settings and saves under a separate Game directory.
Fix: restore both profilesoffline and Game when you need the complete documented local state.
Mods return in the wrong order
Why it fails: the mod directories were copied without Modsmods.json, or the ordering file was replaced by a newer one.
Fix: restore the matching mod folders and ordering file together.

Files from ReSkate are placed in the official game’s folders
Why it fails: the projects have different data models, and ReSkate’s paths are explicitly project-specific.
Fix: keep separate backup roots labelled “official skate” and “ReSkate,” and never merge their files.
A modded official client behaves differently after a backup
Why it fails: no supported official local restore procedure has been verified, and the online release includes anticheat.
Fix: stop changing files, retain the original copy, and consult current official support guidance. Do not infer that a local restore can repair server-side progress or account state.
The backup was made while Steam was still synchronizing

The path is missing after switching Windows accounts
Why it fails: %LOCALAPPDATA% resolves for the currently signed-in Windows user. A different account can have a different ReSkate directory.

Requirements and limits to check after an update
ReSkate’s README is the authority for its supported build and path layout. Recheck it whenever the launcher, executable, or project version changes. A path documented for one build may move in a later build, and a backup made from one build should not be treated as proof that another build can read every file.

Before restoring, make sure you are using the same Windows account and the corresponding ReSkate installation. Keep the backup readable, retain the original folders in temporary storage, and test one change at a time. If the project changes its directory structure, follow the newer README rather than forcing an old copy into a new path.
