Start at a retailer’s known website or official app—not a link in an unexpected post, ad, email, or text. Before paying, verify who is selling the exact offer, compare the full price and bundle contents, read the checkout and return terms, and reject sellers who pressure you or demand unusual payment. A familiar marketplace name alone does not prove that the retailer is the seller.
Check who is selling the exact offer
On a marketplace, the platform and the seller may be different businesses. Read the seller attribution on the specific Switch 2 offer, then check the seller’s history and search its name together with the destination URL and terms such as “review,” “complaint,” or “scam.” Nintendo’s online auction guidance recommends shopping within your own country and notes that retailers operating both standard retail and auction sites may be more accountable for transactions.

A historical example illustrates why the seller line matters: Tom’s Guide reported a third-party seller offer reached through Walmart’s product pathway in its August 4, 2025 restock coverage. That example does not establish current stock or current Walmart policy; it shows why you should inspect the seller on the offer in front of you.

Verify the route, price, and product details
Open the retailer directly
Type the retailer’s known web address or use its official app. Do not use an unexpected link or social-media ad as your route to checkout. The FTC warns that scam ads can impersonate businesses and promote unusually low prices; buyers may receive counterfeit goods, a different item, or nothing at all. Compare the complete offer
Compare the listed price with the standard product and check exactly what the bundle includes. A surprisingly low price is a reason to investigate, not proof of fraud by itself. At checkout, inspect the total, shipping, return and cancellation terms, and any buyer-protection conditions. If the seller identity or terms are unclear, do not proceed.
Watch for pressure and unsafe payment demands
Urgency—claims that you must act immediately, or risk losing the deal—is a warning sign. So is a seller who insists on payment by gift card, wire transfer, payment app, or cryptocurrency. FTC guidance says these demands are likely scams. Prefer a credit card when available: it may let you dispute qualifying problems, though rights and deadlines depend on your card issuer and jurisdiction.

Keep Nintendo Account details private
Do not share or transfer Nintendo Account credentials to complete a purchase. Nintendo Support Japan’s July 24, 2023 notice about fraudulent transactions warns that misuse or transfer of Nintendo Account information can enable account takeover and violate account terms.

What to do if you already paid
- Save the evidence. Keep a copy of the listing, receipt, confirmation number, and messages with the seller.
- Contact the retailer and payment provider promptly. Explain what happened and ask about available dispute or recovery steps. The applicable rights and deadlines vary by issuer and jurisdiction.
- Report suspected fraud. In the United States, file a report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The FTC also recommends keeping transaction records when reporting.
