Short answer: treat an AI agent’s access as an account-permission investigation, not as a single “disconnect agent” action. Identify the account, agent, app or connector, scopes and consent owner; revoke access at the correct layer; then verify tokens, sessions, audit events and data already copied elsewhere.
An AI agent usually reaches your email, files, calendar, contacts or business systems through an app connection and an authorization token. Your account provider may show the connected app or OAuth client rather than the agent’s name. That is why deleting an agent, removing a browser extension or changing a password may leave an authorization active.
The safest sequence is: inventory what the agent could reach, identify the exact app and grant, stop the agent-specific permission when that control exists, remove the underlying app or OAuth grant when appropriate, contain active sessions, and investigate what happened. The labels and timing differ by provider, so use the procedure for the account involved.

“Revoke access” can mean several different controls. Choose the narrowest control that stops the unwanted behavior, then remove broader access if the app is no longer trusted or needed.

| Control layer | What it stops or changes | What may remain |
|---|---|---|
| Agent-specific permission | Prevents a named AI agent from acting through a linked app when the provider exposes that setting. | The account-to-app link or the app’s other account-data grant may remain. |
| App account-data grant or OAuth consent | Removes the app’s authorized access to account data or APIs. | Previously copied data, app-side sessions and already-issued tokens may require separate action. |
| Sign-in link | Stops an identity provider from supplying the sign-in relationship, such as “Sign in with Google.” | It does not necessarily delete the third-party account or data stored there. |
| Organization policy or administrator grant | Restricts or revokes access across a managed tenant or users. | Existing tokens, app sessions and delayed audit or inventory updates may need follow-up. |
| Third-party data deletion | Requests removal of data the app or agent already copied. | It does not itself revoke the provider authorization unless that grant is separately removed. |
Google states that removing an agent’s access does not disconnect or delete the Google Account link with the app. Conversely, removing a third-party app’s access prevents future access to the account data but does not promise deletion of information the app already received. Keep those outcomes separate when documenting the incident.
1. Identify every account, app and authorization
Make an account inventory
Write down every account the agent might have reached: personal or work email, cloud files, calendars, contacts, shopping and travel services, financial systems, developer platforms and internal applications. Include accounts used indirectly—for example, a work calendar exposed through a scheduling connector.
For each account, record the provider, the account address or tenant, the agent name, the connected app or connector, when access was granted, and what the agent was expected to do. If the agent could use more than one account, investigate each authorization separately; revoking one account does not revoke another.
Inspect the provider’s connected-app page
Use the account provider’s security, connected-apps, linked-apps or third-party-access settings. Capture the app’s displayed name, publisher, client or application ID when shown, consenting user, authorization date, data categories and scopes, and whether consent is user-level or administrator-approved. Save this information before changing settings, especially if the connection may be malicious.
Do not rely on a familiar display name. Compare the publisher and permissions with what you intentionally configured. An app authorized to manage account data may be able to edit, create or delete information, which is materially broader than permission to sign in or read a single category.
Classify the grant
- Agent permission: a provider-level control naming the AI agent or its ability to perform tasks.
- App data access: OAuth scopes or an equivalent grant allowing the connector to read or modify account data.
- Sign-in relationship: an identity-provider link used to authenticate to the third-party service.
- Tenant consent: an administrator-approved grant covering an organization, a group or all users.
- App-side session or credential: a session cookie, refresh token, password, API key or credential held by the service itself.
This classification determines which control to use and what must be checked afterward.
2. Revoke a Google consumer account connection
Google’s consumer account controls distinguish agent access, account-data access and “Sign in with Google.” The names can vary by device and feature availability, but the relationships are separate.

Stop a linked agent’s permission
- Open Google Account > Linked apps.
- Find the connected app, or filter the list for Agent access.
- Open the agent permission and choose Stop using.
- Read the confirmation and record the time of revocation.
Google says this stops the agent from completing tasks through the app. It does not disconnect or delete the underlying Google Account link. If the app should have no access to Google data, continue to its access details and remove that grant separately. The distinction is documented in Google Account Help’s linked-apps guidance.

Remove the app’s account-data access
Open the same linked app’s access details and choose Remove access when the app should no longer read or manage Google data. Google warns that removing access can disable features that depend on the connection. This is broader than stopping one agent, so use it when the app itself is no longer trusted or needed.
The account-data control is explained in Google Account Help’s third-party access documentation. It states: “If you revoke the third-party app’s access to your Google Account, they can’t access your data anymore.” That statement concerns future access through the revoked authorization; it is not a guarantee that the developer deleted data already shared.
Remove only the sign-in relationship when appropriate
If the concern is authentication rather than data access, remove Sign in with Google for the app. Do not assume that this deletes the third-party account, its stored data or another OAuth grant. Check the app’s remaining permissions and its own account settings before deciding that the relationship is fully closed.

Google documents a separate flow for custom apps or MCP servers connected to Gemini. In Gemini, open Settings > Connected Apps, select the custom app or server and disconnect it. Google also says you can unlink an MCP server from your Google Account and revoke its permissions in Connected Apps settings.
After disconnecting, inspect the Google Account’s linked-apps page as well. The Gemini connection and the underlying account link can be represented separately, and the available controls may differ by platform or feature rollout. Follow the current instructions in Google’s Gemini connected-apps help rather than assuming every MCP implementation has the same behavior.
4. Handle Google Workspace accounts
For a work or school account, an individual user may not control the entire authorization. A Workspace administrator can inspect and govern third-party app access, including grants approved for a user and grants approved for an organization.
What an administrator should collect
- The app name, publisher, OAuth client ID and scopes.
- The consenting user and the organizational unit, group or tenant-wide scope.
- Token grant and revocation times.
- Relevant OAuth token audit events and actions performed near the grant.
- Whether the agent used a separate app-side session or credential.
Use the controls described in Google Workspace’s “Control which apps access Google Workspace data” guidance. Remove an individual grant when only one user is affected; remove or restrict the organization-wide grant when the app is not approved for anyone. Record the decision and business owner so an administrator does not accidentally restore the same consent later.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAllow for inventory and audit delays
Google Workspace says its accessed-apps list can take up to 48 hours to update after a token grant or revocation. Record when the change was made and do not treat a stale listing immediately afterward as proof that revocation failed. Use audit events and a controlled verification attempt while waiting for the inventory view to catch up.

5. Revoke Microsoft Entra work-account access
In Microsoft Entra, the relevant object is usually an enterprise application, service principal, OAuth consent grant or application-role assignment—not an AI-agent record. An administrator should inventory the application and determine whether consent was delegated by one user or granted for the tenant.
Administrator workflow
- Identify the enterprise application and its application or client ID from the user’s connected-app information, security alert or agent configuration.
- Inspect delegated permissions, application permissions, role assignments, consenting users and the affected accounts.
- Review sign-in and directory audit events around the consent time and the agent’s activity.
- Remove the user’s OAuth consent grant or application-role assignment as appropriate.
- If the application is not approved for the organization, restrict or disable it for the tenant and investigate other users with the same grant.
- Check whether the application has its own sessions, refresh tokens, API keys or stored credentials that require separate termination or rotation.
Microsoft’s application security operations guidance covers inventory, ownership and monitoring in its Entra security operations guide. For suspected illicit consent, follow Microsoft’s consent-grant investigation guidance and preserve audit evidence before it ages out.
Use emergency containment carefully
If an account is actively compromised, disabling sign-in for the affected user can contain further activity, but it also interrupts normal work. Microsoft’s emergency-access procedure is documented at Revoke user access in an emergency in Microsoft Entra ID. Treat sign-in disablement as containment, not as proof that every app session or token has been invalidated.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Microsoft warns that already-issued access tokens may remain a risk until their usual lifetime ends and recommends that applications stop accepting Entra access tokens even if those tokens still appear valid. After removing consent, verify behavior with the application owner and terminate app-side sessions or rotate credentials when necessary.
6. Understand Apple token revocation
Apple’s reviewed material is developer-oriented rather than a universal consumer settings walkthrough. An integration can programmatically revoke the authorization associated with a valid refresh or access token through Apple’s token-revocation mechanism. Developers handling Sign in with Apple account deletion and token invalidation should follow Apple’s token revocation documentation and Technical Note TN3194.
If you are an end user and cannot trigger revocation yourself, contact the service owner or administrator and ask which Apple authorization, application session and stored data will be removed. Do not assume deleting the app from a device revokes a server-side token.
7. Verify that access really stopped
Revocation is a change to an authorization record. Verification checks whether any usable path remains.

Recheck the provider inventory
Return to the connected-app or enterprise-application page and confirm the relevant grant is removed or marked restricted. For Workspace, allow the documented 48-hour accessed-apps update window. Preserve screenshots or exported records with timestamps so you can distinguish a stale display from a failed change.
Inspect the agent service
Open the agent’s integrations, connected accounts, active sessions and API credentials. Remove the account there, revoke refresh tokens if the service offers that control, sign out all sessions, and delete stored secrets. Identity-provider revocation may not close an app-controlled session that was created earlier.
Review audit and sign-in records
For personal accounts, check recent security activity and account changes. For managed environments, review OAuth, sign-in, directory and application audit events around the original consent and the revocation. Look for access from unfamiliar locations, unusual volumes of reads or writes, new forwarding rules, created files, sent messages or permission changes.

8. Deal with data the agent already copied
Revoking future access does not erase information already transmitted to the agent or its service. Google warns that third-party apps may retain information already shared and that you may need to contact the developer to request deletion.
Ask the service owner to identify and delete account data, prompts, files, logs, embeddings, cached results, backups and human-review copies associated with the connection. Request an export or deletion confirmation when the service provides one. Also check shared folders, email attachments, generated reports and downstream systems where the agent may have written a copy.
Keep the authorization decision separate from the data-deletion request: removing the grant stops a path for future access, while deletion addresses copies already held elsewhere.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.9. Respond as an incident when access was unexpected
An unfamiliar agent, publisher or consent event should be handled as a potential account-security incident rather than routine cleanup.
- Preserve evidence: save the app name and ID, scopes, consenting user, grant time, agent run history, alerts and audit records.
- Contain access: revoke the relevant app grant, stop agent-specific permissions, terminate app sessions and use emergency sign-in controls when active abuse is suspected.
- Find related access: search for other grants, duplicate applications, service accounts, API keys and credentials used by the same agent.
- Review impact: identify data read, created, changed or sent during the exposure window.
- Rotate non-OAuth secrets: change passwords and rotate API keys or passwords that the integration used directly.
- Request deletion: contact the third-party service about data and backups already copied.
- Escalate: involve the provider administrator, security team or service owner if you cannot establish that access has stopped.
Changing a password is not a substitute for revoking an OAuth grant. Password reset may protect future sign-ins while a previously authorized app still has a valid grant or app-side session.

10. Troubleshoot common surprises
The app still appears after revocation
Check whether you removed only an agent permission while leaving the app link, or whether the provider’s inventory has a documented update delay. Workspace accessed-apps data can take 48 hours to refresh. Confirm the grant’s status in the detailed access view and use audit records rather than relying on the summary list alone.
The agent still performs actions
Look for a second account, duplicate app registration, tenant-wide consent, refresh token, app-side session, API key or password-based integration. The visible agent name may represent several connectors. Revoke each path and repeat the controlled action test.
Features stopped unexpectedly
Removing a broad app grant can disable unrelated features that depended on it. Reauthorize only the minimum scopes required by a verified app, and prefer a separate low-privilege account for automation where the provider supports it.
You cannot remove the grant
A work-account policy may require an administrator, or the app may be controlled by a tenant-wide assignment. Supply the administrator with the app ID, scopes, user, timestamps and evidence of the agent’s actions. For Apple integrations, ask the developer or service owner to perform token revocation.
You cannot prove whether data was deleted
Ask the third party for its retention and deletion process, including backups and derived data. If the service cannot provide a reliable answer, treat the copied data as potentially retained and adjust the incident response, notifications and credential rotation accordingly.
11. Build a safer operating practice for future agents
- Use a dedicated account or narrowly scoped workspace for automation instead of a personal superuser account.
- Grant read-only scopes unless the task genuinely requires creating, editing or deleting data.
- Record the app publisher, client ID, scopes, owner, purpose and expiration or review date at approval time.
- Require administrator approval for tenant-wide consent and review existing grants periodically.
- Store tokens securely and revoke or delete them when they are no longer needed, following Google’s OAuth authorization best practices.
- Separate testing and production accounts so a verification action cannot alter business data.
- Set an owner responsible for removing access when an agent, connector or project is retired.
- Keep provider audit logs and agent run logs long enough to investigate an unexpected action.
- Document the service’s own session termination and data-deletion procedures before connecting it.
For native applications, review token storage and lifecycle guidance such as Google’s OAuth 2.0 guidance for iOS and desktop apps. The exact implementation varies, but the operational principle is constant: minimize scopes, identify the real app identity, and make revocation and deletion repeatable.
A practical order of operations
Start with the account and connector that the agent actually used. Capture the authorization details, stop the agent-specific permission if available, remove the app or tenant grant when broader access is unwanted, and contain sessions or credentials outside the identity provider. Then verify with a controlled action, review audit history and pursue deletion of copied data. This layered approach is more reliable than looking for one universal “disconnect agent” switch.
