Frontend Quality Auditor is presented by its creator as a command-line tool for scanning a project for issues such as unused imports, debug statements, oversized images, and—when given a URL—accessibility and responsive-layout problems. The creator also describes an optional fix mode and an MCP server example for Claude Desktop and Cursor. These are the author’s feature claims, not independently verified test results.

What the auditor is meant to check

In a September 27, 2026 DEV Community article, creator abdelrhman Ahmed describes Frontend Quality Auditor as a standalone, zero-dependency CLI that can be pointed at React, Next.js, or HTML projects. The article says it generates a Markdown report covering several kinds of findings.

  • Dead code: unused imports and dependencies listed in package.json.
  • Code smells: debugger statements, console.log calls, and hardcoded API keys.
  • Assets: images larger than the author’s stated 500 KB threshold and PNG files that might be candidates for WebP or AVIF conversion.
  • Browser checks: when a URL is supplied, the author says the tool loads Playwright lazily and checks eight device widths for issues including horizontal overflow and missing image alt text.

The 500 KB threshold and eight viewport widths are parameters described by the creator, not results from an independent study. The article does not report false-positive rates, false-negative rates, benchmark comparisons, or validation across representative projects.

Run a scan from the project directory

The author’s example uses npx to run an audit against the current directory:

npx frontend-quality-auditor audit .

That command is the usage shown in the announcement; it does not establish that the package is currently published, maintained, or compatible with a particular Node.js or npm version. The retrieved article does not state those details. Before running any package through npx, verify the package identity and review its current metadata and source through a trusted channel.

After a scan, treat the report as a set of leads to review, not proof that every flagged item is a defect. Unused-code detection can depend on how a project loads modules or references files; image-format suggestions also need to account for browser support, image quality, and the project’s delivery pipeline. The article does not document how this auditor handles those cases.

What the safe-fix command claims to change

The creator gives this command for automatic changes:

npx frontend-quality-auditor fix --safe

Ahmed says this mode removes unused imports, console.log lines, and debugger statements. The article does not specify the complete set of supported syntax, how it decides an import is unused, whether it creates backups, or what review safeguards it applies. The word “safe” is therefore the mode’s label and the author’s description, not an independently verified guarantee.

  1. Commit or otherwise back up your current work before trying automated edits.
  2. Run the audit first and inspect the proposed findings.
  3. If you choose to run the fix command, inspect the resulting diff and run the project’s tests, lint checks, and build before keeping the changes.

Those are prudent review steps; the announcement does not say that the tool performs them for you.

Connect it to Claude Desktop or Cursor through MCP

The article says the auditor can be run as an MCP server and provides npx -y frontend-quality-auditor mcp as the server command in a client configuration. In that example, npx -y allows npx to proceed without an interactive confirmation prompt. Use the exact configuration format required by your installed client; the announcement does not establish compatibility with current versions of Claude Desktop or Cursor, nor does it provide a verified configuration file for every client version.

Because the command runs a package in your environment, check the package’s current identity and code before granting it access to project files or enabling it in a client. The article does not independently establish the package’s security properties, permission boundaries, or behavior when invoked through MCP.

What is—and is not—established

The source is a product announcement by the tool’s creator, not an independent evaluation. It documents the author’s intended workflow and claimed features, but it does not verify current package availability, implementation correctness, maintenance status, license, dependencies, or security. It also does not provide a head-to-head comparison with ESLint or other audit tools, so it is not evidence that this auditor replaces them or performs better.
