The frame stays square when you keep the factory assemblies intact, choose the return side while the desktops are upside down, leave every crossbar set screw loose until the rails are centered, and tighten only after the desktop seam is flush. Plan on two people for the flip, use the correct left- or right-return hole pattern, and complete the reset procedure before raising the desk.
What prevents alignment problems
Most assembly errors come from doing one correct step at the wrong time: choosing the return from the standing position instead of the upside-down assembly position, tightening the rails before the two desktops are joined, or forcing a crossbar end onto the wrong side of a leg assembly. The V3 L-shaped frame is designed to be squared at the end, after both sections are together and the indicator marks on the rails are centered.
The current UPLIFT Desk V3 L-shaped assembly manual covers a three-leg frame with a main desktop and a return desktop. The package uses a factory-preassembled control box and one crossbar assembly. Keep those assemblies together, loosen only the screws needed to separate the crossbar ends from their rails, and follow the sequence below rather than rebuilding the frame from individual parts.

Prepare the room, tools and parts
Use a protected, level work surface
Work on a blanket or carpet large enough for both desktops. Put the tops down with the pre-drilled holes and threaded inserts facing upward. A hard floor can scratch the finish and makes it easier to drag or gouge a desktop. A TechRadar reviewer reported damaging a top after rushing and assembling on the floor; protecting the surface and using the prescribed two-person flip are practical safeguards.

Leave enough space to walk around the entire L shape. After installation, maintain at least a 1-inch horizontal gap from walls or furniture and a 1-inch vertical gap from overhead obstructions throughout the desk’s travel.
Have the basic tools ready
- The supplied hardware and the Allen wrench specified by the manual, including the tool for the M10 x 8 set screws.
- A Phillips screwdriver for the wood screws and keypad.
- A blanket or carpet to protect the tops.
- A second adult for the flip and for positioning the return section.
A furniture-moving strap can provide an optional grip during the flip, but it is not required by the manual. Do not lift the assembled desk by its desktop corner alone.
Inventory before discarding packaging
Lay out every component and compare it with the package list before starting. If a part is missing, contact UPLIFT before beginning rather than improvising a substitute. The V3 L-shaped package includes:

- Left and right side brackets, plus a corner bracket.
- Left and right feet, plus the corner foot.
- Long and short crossbar rails and crossbar ends.
- A control box, keypad and power cord.
- Support brackets for joining the desktops.
- Hardware for the frame, feet, brackets, keypad and accessories.
Choose the return orientation before attaching anything
Left return versus right return
The main desktop is the long section. The return is the shorter section that forms the L. Standard, non-custom tops are universal, so you can build the return on either side. Custom tops are machined for the side selected when ordered and should be assembled in that configuration.

Do not judge left and right from the final standing position while the tops are upside down. The apparent side reverses when you flip the desk. Use the manual’s left- and right-return diagrams and the pre-drilled patterns on your specific tops.

Assemble the frame while the tops are upside down
1. Preserve the factory assemblies
The control box and one crossbar assembly arrive preassembled. Loosen the crossbar set screws only enough to separate the crossbar ends from the rails. Do not disassemble the control box or break the factory arrangement into loose components.
Attach the control-box crossbar end to the long crossbar end exactly as shown in the manual. Insert the appropriate leg into the long crossbar end. Attach the corner bracket to that leg. Insert the remaining legs into the two short crossbar ends, then attach the left and right side brackets. Tighten the bracket-to-leg screws securely; these joints are not the adjustment point used to square the frame later.
2. Position the corner-leg assembly on the main top
Place the corner-leg assembly on the main desktop for the return side you selected. Match the bracket holes to the correct pre-drilled pattern. Use four screws for a left return or five screws for a right return. If the holes do not match, stop and recheck the orientation instead of enlarging a hole or shifting the bracket.
3. Attach the first side assembly to the main desktop
Position the first side assembly opposite the corner assembly. The long end of the side bracket points toward the front edge of the desktop. Slide the assembly onto the crossbar rails, then align the three side-bracket holes and the hole in the short crossbar end with the threaded inserts in the top.
Tighten all four indicated screws. Keep the rail-to-end set screws loose; the rails still need lateral movement for final squaring.

4. Attach the second side assembly to the return desktop
Align the second side assembly with the return’s pre-drilled holes and threaded inserts. Again, keep the long end of the side bracket toward the front of the return. Install the three side-bracket screws and the short-crossbar-end screw.

If the crossbar-end hole misses the threaded insert near the middle of the return, do not force the screw. Rotate the leg assembly and use the opposite side, as the manual directs. The hole alignment depends on which face of the assembly is toward the return.
5. Install the feet in the matching direction
Attach the corner foot to the corner leg. On each side leg, the long end of the foot must point the same way as the long end of its side bracket. Tighten all foot screws. A reversed foot can make the desk look twisted even when the rails are centered.
6. Install the keypad and underside accessories now
The keypad mounting holes are pre-drilled in the return. Use the group of holes closest to the side bracket and attach the keypad with two #10 x 5/8-inch wood screws. Tighten until secure without overtightening, which can strip the top.
Install cable-manager brackets and any other underside accessories before the flip when practical. The keypad cable channel is placed about 3 to 4 inches behind the keypad. Pre-installing accessories avoids reaching under a heavy, upright desk.

Flip and join the two desktop sections safely
7. Use two people for the flip
With one person at each end, lift by a leg and the desktop structure rather than by a loose rail. Rotate the assembly so the crossbar rails face upward, then continue until the main section is upright. Do not twist one side independently while the rails are still loose.
8. Engage the return
Flip the return desktop and rest it on the exposed rails. Slide the rails into the return’s crossbar end, then push the two sections together. At this stage the frame may still move slightly. That movement is intentional and allows the seam and rail centers to be corrected.
9. Eliminate the desktop seam before locking the frame
Before installing support brackets, push the main and return desktops together until their adjoining edges are flush with no gap. The manual specifically requires the seam to be closed before the brackets are fitted.
For a standard top, attach each support bracket with four #10 x 5/8-inch wood screws. Custom solid-wood tops use dogbone bolts instead of support brackets. Do not substitute one fastening method for the other.
Square the frame with the rail indicator marks
10. Center every crossbar rail
Find the center indicator mark on each crossbar rail. Slide each rail left or right until its mark is approximately centered between the two crossbar ends. Centering the marks, rather than measuring only the outside desktop edges, is the main frame-squaring operation.

11. Tighten all sixteen set screws
Once the rails are centered and the desktop seam is flush, tighten the M10 x 8 set screws. There are sixteen in total: four at each crossbar end. Tighten all of them firmly so the rails cannot drift. If you tightened them earlier, loosen them again, center the marks, and repeat this step.

Connect the electronics and perform the required reset
12. Plug each leg into the specified control-box port
Connect AC power to the control box. Connect the corner leg to M3. The preinstalled extension and the opposite leg connect through M1. Connect the remaining leg through M2. Connect the keypad cable to HS.
Route cables so they cannot rub against a moving rail or become taut at the highest and lowest desk positions. Confirm that every connector is fully seated before applying power.
13. Run the desk reset before first use
The manual states that the reset synchronizes the legs and control box. Lower the desk fully, then hold the Down button for about 10 seconds until the display shows ASr or RESET. Hold Down again until the desk lowers and rises slightly. The reset is recommended before first use and when an error display or uneven movement appears.
Level, inspect and make the final alignment check
Adjust the leveling glides
Move the desk by lifting under the side brackets; do not drag it by a desktop corner. Adjust the leveling glides to compensate for an uneven floor. Recheck that the main and return tops remain flush after leveling.
Re-tighten the structural screws
After the desk is standing and leveled, re-tighten the side-bracket and corner-bracket screws once more. Install the logo plates only after this final check. Verify the sixteen rail set screws, foot screws, support-bracket fasteners or dogbone bolts, and keypad screws.

Check travel clearance
- Keep at least 1 inch horizontally between the desk and walls or furniture.
- Keep at least 1 inch vertically from shelves, cabinets and other overhead obstructions.
- Run the desk through its range while watching the cables, return corner and nearby objects.
- Stop immediately if a leg hesitates, the frame twists, or a cable catches.
Troubleshoot alignment and assembly symptoms

A concise alignment checklist
- Inventory all three legs, brackets, feet, rails, ends, control box, keypad, power cord and hardware.
- Protect the work surface and arrange the tops upside down with holes facing up.
- Choose left or right return from the upside-down assembly view.
- Keep the factory control-box and crossbar assemblies intact.
- Use four corner screws for a left return or five for a right return.
- Keep all rail set screws loose while attaching both desktop sections.
- Point each foot’s long end in the same direction as its side bracket.
- Install the keypad, cable managers and practical underside accessories before flipping.
- Flip with two people and slide the return onto the rails.
- Push the desktop edges flush before fitting support brackets or dogbone bolts.
- Center every rail by its indicator mark.
- Tighten all sixteen M10 x 8 set screws.
- Connect M1, M2, M3, HS and AC power as specified.
- Perform the complete reset, level the desk, recheck structural screws and verify clearance.
