To let players use a V Rising Waygate while carrying resources, disable the server’s bound-item teleport restriction. In a hosting control panel, open the server’s Game Settings, set the bound-items teleport option to false (or turn off the equivalent restriction), save, and restart the server. On a self-hosted server, make the same boolean change in ServerGameSettings.json, then restart. The setting is normally true by default, which binds most inventory items and prevents Waygate travel; false leaves them unbound for teleport purposes.
What the setting changes
V Rising’s normal server rules restrict Waygate teleporting when a character carries bound inventory items. Under the default behavior, players can teleport with plant fibres, wood and stones, while other carried items prevent travel. This is why a player may reach a Waygate, select a destination and still be unable to leave.

The restriction is controlled by a server-side Boolean value:
- true: inventory items are treated as bound for teleporting, so the restriction remains enabled.
- false: items remain available for teleporting, allowing a character to use a Waygate with a fuller inventory.
This is a server setting, not a character option. Every player on that server receives the same rule after the server loads the changed configuration.

Choose the correct method

Both methods ultimately change the same server rule. Stop the server before changing a file or panel value, save the configuration, and start the server again before testing.
Before changing anything
Make these checks first so a successful edit is not hidden by a second configuration layer.
- Confirm you have server configuration access. You need permission to edit Game Settings in a hosting panel or read and write the server’s settings directory.
- Record the current behavior. Take a small stack of the items your players normally carry and test a Waygate before the change. This gives you a comparison after the restart.
- Stop the server cleanly. Do not edit a file while the game process is running and writing its settings. Use the panel’s Stop control or shut down the dedicated server through the method you normally use.
- Back up the configuration. Download or copy the current settings file before editing. Keep the original until players have confirmed that the new behavior is correct.
- Check for a preset. If the panel has a Game Settings Preset dropdown, note its current value. Use Custom for a one-off configuration, or clear the preset if the panel permits that.
Hosted server: change the setting in Game Settings
Control-panel labels differ between hosts and game builds, but the workflow is consistent. The option may be described as allowing teleportation with bound items, disabling teleport restrictions, or permitting Waygate travel while carrying resources.
- Open your hosting account and select the V Rising server.
- Click Stop and wait until the server is completely offline. Editing while it is still running can cause your change to be lost.
- Open Game Settings, Configuration or the panel’s equivalent settings editor.
- Find the Game Settings Preset control. Select Custom before changing an individual value. If the panel offers a blank or cleared preset, that also prevents a preset from reapplying defaults.
- Locate the setting referring to bound items and teleporting. Set the Boolean to false, or switch off the control if the panel presents it as an on/off option. Read the panel’s description: the desired state is the one that allows Waygate travel with carried items.
- Click Save or Apply. Wait for a confirmation that the configuration was written.
- Start the server and wait for it to finish loading before connecting.
- Join with a test character, place a resource stack in the inventory, and use a Waygate. Test more than one category if your server community relies on ore, equipment or other non-resource items.
If the panel has both a preset selector and individual fields, save the preset selection first, then save the Boolean setting. Some panels reload the form after a preset change and can discard an unsaved field.

Self-hosted server: edit ServerGameSettings.json
Self-hosted installations can store the file in different locations depending on the launcher, server package and hosting layout. Two locations reported for V Rising servers are:
/save-data/Settings/ServerGameSettings.jsonVRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json
Use the location that exists in your installation. Do not create a second file in the other directory unless your server package specifically documents that layout; editing an unused copy has no effect.
- Stop the V Rising server process and verify that it has exited.
- Open the active
ServerGameSettings.jsonin a text editor that preserves plain UTF-8 text. - Make a backup copy before changing any characters.
- Find the Boolean property that controls whether inventory items are bound for teleporting. The exact JSON key is not consistent enough across current builds to quote safely here, so use the setting’s description in the file or compare it with the current Game Settings panel rather than pasting an unverified key.
- Change only that property’s value to the JSON Boolean
false. JSON Booleans are lowercase and are not enclosed in quotation marks. The intended form is a property followed by: false, using the file’s existing comma and brace structure. - Preserve every other setting. A missing comma, an extra comma, smart quotation mark or accidental deletion can make the file invalid or cause the server to ignore it.
- Save the file, then start the server.
- Watch the startup log or panel status for a configuration error. If the server refuses to load, stop it, restore the backup and correct the JSON syntax before trying again.
- Connect to the server and perform a Waygate test with the same items used in your baseline test.
If you cannot identify the relevant property in the file, use the hosting panel’s labeled setting or the server package’s current configuration template. Do not guess a key name from an old forum post: a correctly formatted but unrelated Boolean will not change teleport behavior.
Prevent a preset from undoing the change
A server preset can silently replace values in ServerGameSettings.json. The common symptom is that the file appears to contain false, but players still cannot teleport with items after every restart.

In a control panel, select Custom in the Game Settings Preset dropdown before saving the teleport option. If the panel allows the preset field to be cleared, leave it empty and save again. On a self-hosted installation, check whether a separate preset configuration is being loaded at startup; a 2022 Steam Community report described presets.json overriding the server settings file, with the issue resolved after the preset value was cleared. That report is a single community experience rather than official documentation, so confirm the behavior against your own installation.
After changing the preset state, restart once more and inspect the active configuration. A restart is important because many servers read these values only during startup.
How to verify that teleporting with resources works
- Join after the server has fully restarted. A client that stayed connected during the restart may not represent the newly loaded rule.
- Carry plant fibres, wood and stones, then use a Waygate. These materials are normally allowed even with the default restriction, so they are not a sufficient test by themselves.
- Add an item that was previously blocked by your server’s rule, such as a resource category your players regularly transport. Confirm that the Waygate no longer reports a bound-item restriction.
- Travel to another Waygate and check the destination inventory. Verify that the items arrived and were not dropped or consumed.
- Repeat with a second character or ask another player to test. This distinguishes a server-wide change from a client-side display issue.
- Record the result for each category you care about. Published guides agree on the core resource restriction but differ on whether the same switch also affects weapons, armor and other gear.
Keep a short list of tested categories in your server rules. Saying “all items are allowed” is broader than the evidence supports unless you have tested the categories your community uses.
What items does the setting cover?
The well-established default is that plant fibres, wood and stones can be carried through a Waygate, while other inventory items are restricted. Resource-focused guides also discuss ore, but the available descriptions are not uniform about the full inventory scope. One community comment attributes the behavior to weapons, armor and gear as well.

Because the exact scope can vary with the game build or the way a guide labels “bound” items, test the categories that matter to your server:
- basic gathering materials such as fibres, wood and stone;
- ore and other mined resources;
- consumables and crafting materials;
- weapons, armor and equipment;
- any special items your server’s players commonly move between territories.
Do not promise unrestricted teleporting for every item until those tests succeed on the current build.

Existing items and newly created items
A Steam Community post reports that changing the toggle affected items created after the change, while items already present in the world could remain bound. The report has low confidence because it is a single player account rather than a documented game rule.

- Test an item obtained before the setting change.
- Obtain or craft the same type of item after the restart and test it separately.
- Tell players to move critical supplies only after both tests pass.
- Keep the backup and the old restriction available until you know how your current world handles existing items.
If old items remain blocked, moving them to a chest and obtaining new stacks may provide a practical workaround, but whether that changes their binding depends on the item and game build. Test before recommending it as a guaranteed fix.
Troubleshooting when the change does not work

Panel edit or manual file edit?
Use the panel when it exposes a clearly labeled teleport option. It avoids path mistakes and usually validates the value before writing it. Manual editing is appropriate when you run the server yourself, need version-controlled configuration, or the panel does not expose the setting. The trade-off is that a file edit requires the correct active path, valid JSON and awareness of presets that may override it.

Operational advice for server administrators
Changing the restriction affects how players move materials between territories and can alter the balance intended by your server rules. Announce the change, specify which item categories you tested, and state whether the rule applies to a new world or an existing one. If your server uses scheduled restarts, make the edit during a maintenance window so players do not lose a session.
Keep a dated copy of the working configuration. If a future V Rising update changes the setting name, file path or preset behavior, the backup lets you return to a known state while you verify the new build. Recheck the setting after updates rather than assuming that a previously valid file edit remains active.
