You cannot create a general Samsung Galaxy allowlist that forces ads to appear in selected apps. Galaxy and Android settings can control ad-personalization signals, an app’s ad suggestions stored with Android, advertising-ID use, and sensitive permissions such as the camera or microphone. They do not switch in-app advertising on for chosen apps or guarantee that ads will disappear.
If your goal is to let Android use an app for ad-personalization features, use Settings > Google > All services > Privacy & security > Ads > Ads privacy. If you are trying to give one app access to a camera, microphone, or another protected feature, use Samsung’s Permission manager instead. Those are separate controls.
What “allow ads for specific apps” means on a Galaxy phone
The wording can describe two different tasks, and the correct setting depends on which one you mean:

Android provides controls for ad topics, app-suggested ads, and ad measurement. These settings govern particular data signals and suggestion storage.
- Allowing advertisements to appear inside selected apps. Android and Samsung do not document a user-facing allowlist for this. The app and its advertising service decide whether an ad is displayed, where it appears, and whether the app offers an ad-supported mode.
Turning on an ad-privacy setting does not make an app show advertisements. Turning one off does not reliably remove advertisements from that app. The controls limit specified data uses and personalization signals, not the existence of an app’s ad spaces.

For example, you might want to keep seeing banner ads in a free game to support its developer. There is no Galaxy switch that says “allow ads in this game.” Conversely, if you want fewer personalized ads, you can adjust Android’s privacy controls, but the game may still display advertising supplied by its own system.
Choose the setting that matches your goal
| What you want to control | Where to look | What it changes | What it does not promise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Android’s interest-based ad topics | Google > All services > Privacy & security > Ads > Ads privacy | Whether Android can share selected topics with apps for ad personalization | It does not remove ads or make a particular app display them |
| One app’s suggestions stored with Android | Ads privacy > App suggested ads | Blocks that app from storing ad suggestions with Android | Related ads may still appear |
| Ad-performance measurement | Ads privacy > Ad measurement | Controls whether apps can share certain information used to measure ad performance | It does not turn advertising on or off inside an app |
| Advertising ID use | Samsung settings under Security and privacy > More privacy settings > Ads | Lets you reset the advertising ID or disable apps from using it, where supported | It does not create an app-by-app ad-display allowlist |
| Camera, microphone, or other protected access | Security and privacy > More privacy settings > Permission manager | Changes a selected app’s supported permission | Revoking or granting an unrelated permission is not an advertising control |
Use the table as a scope check before changing anything. Android’s Ads privacy page is about ad-related processing. Samsung’s Permission manager is about protected access to device data or hardware. Neither page is an ad-placement control panel.
Manage Android’s ad-privacy controls
These controls are the closest documented way to manage ad-related behavior for individual apps on a Galaxy phone. Menu names can vary by Android version, One UI release, device model, and region. If a label is different, search Settings for Ads or Ads privacy.
1. Open Ads privacy
- Open Settings.
- Tap Google.
- Tap All services.
- Under Google services, open Privacy & security.
- Tap Ads, then Ads privacy.
The page can contain separate entries for Ad topics, App suggested ads, and Ad measurement. Google notes that the topic list might not appear until the feature is available on the phone and apps begin using it. If you do not see every entry, that is not evidence that your Galaxy has a hidden per-app advertising switch.
2. Review or turn off Ad topics
Open Ad topics and review the Allow ad topics setting. Android can share up to three topics at a time with an app for ad personalization. Removing a topic prevents Android from sharing that topic again, but you can still see ads related to the same subject through other signals or through the app’s own advertising system.
Android deletes ad topics after four weeks. That is a retention detail for the topic data, not a promise that advertising will stop after four weeks. It also does not mean an app loses its own account, subscription, or advertising history when a topic expires.
Use this control when your objective is to limit Android’s topic-based personalization. It is not necessary to change it merely because you want an app’s ordinary ad-supported version to keep working. A topic setting does not grant permission to display a banner, interstitial, or rewarded ad.
3. Block one app under App suggested ads
- From Ads privacy, tap App suggested ads.
- Find the app whose suggestions you do not want Android to store.
- Use the control to block that app.
- Confirm the change if Android asks.
Google describes this as a narrow control: “Blocked apps will no longer store ad suggestions with Android, but you may still get ads related to those apps.” Blocking an app here removes its associated suggestion data from Android, but it does not suppress every advertisement from that app and does not prevent the app from showing its own ads.
This distinction matters if you are troubleshooting a single app. Blocking its suggestions can limit one Android feature while leaving the app’s own ad requests, account-based recommendations, or advertising content unchanged. If you later want Android to accept that app’s suggestions again, return to the same list and change the app’s status if the option is available.
4. Set Ad measurement
- Return to Ads privacy.
- Tap Ad measurement.
- Turn Allow ad measurement on or off.
Google describes ad measurement as limiting the data apps share to measure advertising performance, such as the time of day an ad was shown. This affects measurement signals; it is not a switch for an app’s ad placements.
Do not interpret a measurement setting as an approval or refusal for a particular advertiser. It controls a category of data sharing used to evaluate performance. The app can still have an ad slot, and the advertising service can still decide what content is eligible to appear there.

Use Samsung’s advertising-ID controls
Samsung’s current US support guidance places Samsung and Google privacy controls in Settings > Security and privacy > More privacy settings. On supported Galaxy devices, the Google section includes Ads.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy.
- Tap More privacy settings.
- Open Ads in the Google-related section.
- Choose whether to Reset advertising ID or disable apps from using it, if those options are shown.
Resetting the advertising ID gives the device a new identifier; it does not erase an app’s own account history or guarantee less advertising. Disabling use of the ID limits that particular signal. An app may use other information that it is permitted to use, so changing the ID should not be described as an app-specific ad blocker.
Samsung warns that features are not available on every device, so the exact entries may differ or be absent on your Galaxy model. A carrier variant, region, Android release, or One UI update can change the visible labels. If you cannot find the entry, use Settings search for advertising ID or Ads rather than assuming the function is supported.
Change an app’s permissions separately
Permission Manager is for protected device data and hardware access. It is useful when an app requests the camera, microphone, location, contacts, or another supported permission, but it is not an advertising toggle.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Open Permission manager
- Go to Settings > Security and privacy > More privacy settings.
- Tap Permission manager.
- Select a permission category, such as Camera or Microphone.
- Tap the app you want to change.
- Select an available option, such as Allow, Don’t allow, Allow only while using the app, or Ask every time.
Available choices depend on the permission and the app. Grant only access the app needs for a function you understand. Allowing microphone access, for example, does not authorize or disable advertisements. Removing microphone access because an app displays ads can break voice chat, recording, calls, or another legitimate feature without changing the ad inventory.
The same principle applies to location, contacts, camera, and other categories. Permission Manager answers “may this app access this protected resource?” It does not answer “may this app request or display an advertisement?” Keep those decisions separate so a privacy change does not accidentally disable a feature you use.
Why ads can still appear after you change these settings
The app’s advertising display is a separate decision
The documented Android controls govern topics, suggestions, and measurement. They do not tell an app to reserve, fill, or remove an ad slot. An app may therefore continue showing advertisements after you turn off ad topics, block its suggestions, reset the advertising ID, or disable advertising-ID use.
In practical terms, these settings can change which personalization signals are available while leaving the app’s business model intact. A free app can remain ad-supported, and an app can show less-personalized or contextual advertising without removing the ad space itself.
Blocking App suggested ads is not an ad blocker
The per-app option concerns suggestions that the app stores with Android. It does not block all ads associated with the app. If your objective is to stop advertising entirely, the Ads privacy page is not documented as a system-wide ad-removal tool.

Do not promise that blocking a single entry will remove every ad related to that developer, account, category, or website. Google’s wording specifically warns that related ads may still appear.
Permission changes do not control ads
Camera, microphone, location, and contacts permissions protect sensitive access. Removing one because an app displays ads does not create an advertising preference and can break a feature that legitimately needs that permission.
Troubleshoot missing or different menu items
Search Settings instead of following an exact label
Samsung states that not every privacy feature is available on every Galaxy device. One UI and Android updates can also rename or move entries. Use the Settings search field for Ads, Ads privacy, advertising ID, or Permission manager.
Search is especially useful when Samsung groups a control under a slightly different heading. Follow the purpose of the setting—ad personalization, identifier use, or protected permission—rather than assuming every Galaxy phone has identical menu text.
App suggested ads or Ad topics is not listed
Android says the topic list may not be visible until the feature is fully available and apps begin using it. An absent list does not mean your phone has an undisclosed allowlist or that ads have been disabled. Check again after system and Google Play services updates, while recognizing that availability remains device-dependent.
There is no need to change camera or microphone permissions as a workaround for a missing Ads privacy entry. Those controls belong to a different settings family and will not make ad topics appear.
The app still shows personalized-looking ads
Review all three Android sections rather than changing only one: Ad topics, App suggested ads, and Ad measurement. Also review advertising-ID use under Samsung’s Ads entry. These settings limit specified signals; none guarantees that the app will stop showing ads or that every ad will be non-personalized.
Recommended Free Tools
When checking the result, distinguish between “the ad is still present” and “the ad uses the same personalization signal.” The documented controls address the latter categories, not the presence of an ad slot.
You want to support a free app by seeing its ads
There is no documented Galaxy setting that selectively allows an app’s ads. Leave the app’s own ad-supported mode enabled and avoid changing privacy controls solely in the expectation that they will make advertisements appear. Whether ads are served remains an app-level decision.

What Galaxy Store rules do—and do not—tell users
Samsung’s Galaxy Store developer requirements say that apps must obtain user consent before delivering ads or push messages based on user data and must not require more permissions than necessary for their functions. Those requirements explain obligations for developers; they do not provide a user control for allowlisting advertisements in selected apps, and they are not a guarantee about every third-party app distributed elsewhere.
Therefore, a consent prompt inside an app should be treated as an app-level request about data use or messages, not as evidence that Samsung has enabled a system-wide ad switch. Likewise, an app asking for a camera or microphone permission must justify that feature separately; accepting that permission does not constitute consent to advertising.
A practical decision checklist
- Want to limit personalized ad signals? Open Ads privacy and review Ad topics, App suggested ads, and Ad measurement.
- Want to stop one app’s suggestions from being stored with Android? Block that app under App suggested ads, remembering that related ads may still appear.
- Want to change identifier use? Open Samsung’s Ads entry under More privacy settings and reset the advertising ID or disable supported use.
- Want to control camera, microphone, or another sensitive permission? Use Permission manager for the specific app and permission.
- Want an app to display ads? Galaxy settings do not provide a general allowlist; the app controls its own advertising behavior.
Frequently asked questions
Can I allow ads in only one Samsung app?
No documented Galaxy control creates an app-by-app ad-display allowlist. You can manage Android’s ad topics, one app’s suggestions, measurement, or advertising-ID use, but those controls do not force an app to show ads.
Does turning on Ad topics make ads appear?
No. Ad topics controls whether Android can share selected topics with an app for personalization. It does not create an ad slot or require the app to serve an ad.
What happens when I block an app under App suggested ads?
Android stops storing that app’s ad suggestions with Android and deletes the associated suggestion data. Google also says you may still get ads related to the blocked app.
How many topics can Android share?
Android can share up to three ad topics at a time with an app. Removing a topic stops Android sharing that topic again, and Android deletes ad topics after four weeks.

Will resetting the advertising ID remove ads?
No. Resetting gives the device a new advertising identifier. It does not erase an app’s own account history and does not guarantee fewer ads or an ad-free experience.
Is Permission manager the place to allow advertising?
No. Permission manager controls supported access such as camera, microphone, location, or contacts. Granting or revoking one of those permissions does not turn an app’s advertising on or off.
Why is my menu different?
Samsung says not every feature is available on every Galaxy device. Android version, One UI release, model, and region can also affect labels. Search Settings for Ads, Ads privacy, advertising ID, or Permission manager.

Samsung Galaxy does not offer a general switch to allow ads for selected apps. Use Ads privacy to manage ad topics, app-suggested ads, and ad measurement; use Samsung’s Ads entry to reset or limit advertising-ID use; and use Permission manager only for protected access such as the camera or microphone. These settings limit defined data signals or permissions, while the app and its ad service decide whether advertisements appear.
