You can send video from an iPhone or iPad to HomeView when the app and HomeView support that combination. Start playback in the video app, tap its AirPlay control, and choose HomeView if it appears. If the destination is absent, use the app’s documented HomeView-compatible experience instead; do not assume that every app, stream, or protected video can be mirrored.

Apple describes HomeView as supporting compatible third-party audio and video apps from a paired iPhone or iPad. That is compatibility-based support, not a promise that HomeView acts as a universal receiver for every iPhone video app.

Check compatibility before you try to play a video

HomeView’s video-app support depends on the app, the receiving software and the paired Apple device. Apple’s published requirements list an iPhone running iOS 27.2 or later or an iPad running iPadOS 27.2 or later, current HomeView software and Wi-Fi internet access. See the current requirements at Apple’s HomeView specifications.

  • Source device: an iPhone on iOS 27.2 or later, or an iPad on iPadOS 27.2 or later.
  • Receiver: HomeView with its software updated.
  • Network: for ordinary AirPlay discovery, the iPhone or iPad and receiver must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • App support: the video app must expose AirPlay or provide a HomeView-compatible experience.
  • Pairing: the iPhone or iPad paired with HomeView is the device Apple’s compatible-app wording refers to.

These requirements are separate from HomeView’s Home Camera feature. Apple’s “up to nine simultaneous video feeds” figure applies to the Home Camera face; it does not describe how many AirPlay app streams HomeView can receive.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Choose the right playback route

There are three different ways a video might reach HomeView. They are not interchangeable, and confusing them is the most common reason a reader expects a destination that never appears.

Route Where you start When it works Important limitation
In-app AirPlay AirPlay button in the video app, sometimes under Share or another control The app advertises HomeView as an available receiver Some video apps do not support AirPlay, and protected streams can impose additional restrictions.
HomeView-compatible app experience The app’s own HomeView support or handoff flow The app and current HomeView software are listed as compatible Compatibility is app-specific; a different app may not offer the same handoff.
Screen Mirroring Control Center on the iPhone or iPad, then Screen Mirroring An available AirPlay receiver accepts the mirrored display Mirroring does not bypass an app’s restrictions on protected or unsupported video.

Apple documents standard AirPlay video streaming to Apple TV, AirPlay-compatible smart TVs and Mac. HomeView should be treated as a destination only when it is actually listed by the compatible app or AirPlay picker. A successful AirPlay connection to another receiver does not prove that the same app supports HomeView.

Send a video with the app’s AirPlay control

This is the preferred method when the app offers an AirPlay destination picker.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Update both devices. Install the latest available HomeView software. Confirm that the source is an iPhone with iOS 27.2 or later or an iPad with iPadOS 27.2 or later, as specified by Apple.
  2. Join the same Wi-Fi network. Connect the iPhone or iPad and HomeView to the same Wi-Fi network. Cellular data on the phone does not substitute for this discovery requirement.
  3. Open the video app. Launch the app on the paired iPhone or iPad and start the program, film or other video you want to watch.
  4. Find AirPlay. Look for the AirPlay icon in the playback controls. Some apps put it behind another button; Apple specifically notes that Photos can place AirPlay behind Share.
  5. Open the destination list. Tap AirPlay and wait for the available receivers to appear.
  6. Select HomeView. Tap HomeView only if it is shown in the list. The video should move to HomeView while playback controls remain available on the source device.
  7. Keep the source available. Do not close the app or disconnect the paired device while the app is handing off or controlling playback. The exact behavior after locking the screen is app-dependent.
  8. Verify the result. Check that both picture and sound are coming from the intended HomeView output. If the app stays on the iPhone and HomeView never appears, continue with the compatibility checks rather than repeatedly tapping the same icon.

The AirPlay picker is an app-level request. If HomeView is missing, that does not necessarily indicate a Wi-Fi fault: the app may not implement AirPlay for that video, or the current HomeView software may not support that app’s route.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Use a HomeView-compatible app experience

Apple’s HomeView description says compatible third-party audio and video apps can work from a user’s iPhone for a familiar experience across devices. In practice, this means the app may provide its own handoff, receiver selection or HomeView-specific playback flow rather than exposing a generic AirPlay button.

  1. Open the app on the iPhone or iPad that is paired with HomeView.
  2. Look in the app’s playback screen, device picker, cast menu or help page for HomeView support.
  3. Choose HomeView when the app identifies it as a compatible destination.
  4. Follow any on-screen pairing or permission prompt.
  5. Return to the app’s playback controls if you need to pause, seek, change an episode or end the handoff.

Do not infer compatibility from the app’s availability on iPhone alone. A title can play normally on the phone while the app lacks a HomeView handoff, or while a particular stream is excluded by the service’s rights or playback rules.

Try Screen Mirroring when the app does not offer a usable picker

Screen Mirroring sends the iPhone or iPad display to an available AirPlay receiver. It is a different control from the AirPlay button inside a video app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Control Center on the iPhone or iPad. On current iPhone models, swipe down from the upper-right corner; use the device’s established Control Center gesture on older models or iPad.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  3. Choose an available AirPlay receiver. Select HomeView only if it appears.
  4. Return to the video app and start playback.
  5. When finished, open Control Center again, tap Screen Mirroring and choose Stop Mirroring.

Mirroring reproduces the display; it is not a method for overriding a service’s protection. An app can show a black screen, refuse playback or disable mirroring for a protected video even while ordinary iPhone controls remain visible. If a video app has its own AirPlay control, that route is generally more appropriate than mirroring the entire display.

Troubleshoot a missing destination or failed video

Work through the symptom that matches what you see. Make one change at a time so you can tell whether the failure is discovery, app compatibility or playback protection.

No AirPlay button appears

Apple states that some video apps might not support AirPlay. Check the app’s help pages and App Store description for AirPlay or HomeView support, and look behind Share or another secondary control. If the app does not document an AirPlay path, Screen Mirroring may also be blocked for that content.

HomeView is not in the destination list

  • Confirm that the iPhone or iPad and HomeView are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that HomeView software and iOS or iPadOS meet the current requirements.
  • Make sure you are using the iPhone or iPad paired with HomeView for the compatible-app experience.
  • Quit and reopen the app, then open its destination picker again.
  • Check whether the app explicitly lists HomeView as a supported receiver. If it does not, the absence is likely a compatibility limitation rather than a hidden setting.

Apple’s general AirPlay guidance covers network discovery and receiver selection at Apple Support’s AirPlay guide.

The video plays on the iPhone but not on HomeView

Treat this as an app-support issue first. HomeView’s official wording is limited to compatible third-party apps; it does not promise universal playback of every iPhone video app. Test a different title in the same app only if the service allows it, and consult that app’s support documentation for device or rights restrictions.

Screen Mirroring connects, but the picture is black

A black image usually indicates that the app or stream does not permit mirrored protected video. Stop mirroring and use the app’s own AirPlay or HomeView-compatible control if one exists. If no supported control is offered, HomeView cannot be assumed to display that stream.

The image has black bars or a different layout

A phone app may render a portrait-oriented or otherwise phone-sized layout when its display is mirrored or handed off. Black bars, cropped controls or a rearranged interface are not automatically faults. Look for an app-specific display setting; do not expect a universal aspect-ratio correction from HomeView.

AirPlay works to another receiver but not HomeView

Receiver support is not transferable. Apple documents AirPlay combinations separately, including audio connections involving HomePod, Apple TV 4K and compatible speakers, while HomeView’s third-party video support is described as compatibility-based. Use the receiver and app combination that Apple or the app explicitly supports instead of treating success elsewhere as proof of HomeView support.

Playback stops after changing apps or locking the device

Control behavior belongs to the source app and its handoff implementation. Reopen the app and inspect its playback or destination control. If the app requires the paired iPhone or iPad to remain active, keep that device connected and available during playback.

What HomeView support does—and does not—promise

The key distinction is between an app-aware handoff and universal screen capture. HomeView can provide a familiar experience for compatible third-party audio and video apps from the paired iPhone or iPad. That statement does not establish support for every app, every account region, every title or every protected stream.

Standard AirPlay also depends on receiver discovery over Wi-Fi. The AirPlay button in a player and Screen Mirroring in Control Center are separate paths, so an app may expose one, both or neither. A missing button is therefore meaningful evidence about that app’s implementation, not proof that the iPhone or HomeView is defective.

HomeView’s camera-feed capacity should not be used to estimate AirPlay capacity. The “up to nine” figure belongs to the Home Camera face and says nothing about simultaneous video-app streams.

Stop AirPlay or mirroring

To end an app handoff, open the source app’s AirPlay control and select the iPhone or iPad instead of HomeView. To end a mirrored display, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring and choose Stop Mirroring. Closing the app may stop playback, but using the destination control gives you a clear disconnect and avoids leaving an active session running.

Equipment and setup checklist

  • Apple HomeView with current software.
  • An iPhone on iOS 27.2 or later, or an iPad on iPadOS 27.2 or later.
  • The paired source device and HomeView connected to the same Wi-Fi network for standard AirPlay discovery.
  • The video app installed and updated, with its AirPlay or HomeView compatibility documented.
  • Any region-specific wall-mount or power accessories required by your physical installation.

A generic HDMI cable or streaming stick cannot make an otherwise incompatible HomeView app support AirPlay. Choose the app’s documented route first, then troubleshoot the network and software conditions above.
