Adjust a Satisfactory dedicated server in three places: the in-game Server Manager, server-side INI files, and command-line startup flags. Use Server Manager for the settings it exposes, edit Game.ini for values such as the player cap, and use startup flags for ports or one-session overrides. Stop the server before changing INI files; a running instance can overwrite your edits when it shuts down.
Where Satisfactory server settings are stored
There is no single configuration screen or master file for every dedicated-server option. The correct location depends on the setting.

On Linux, server configuration files are under FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/. On Windows, use FactoryGameSavedConfigWindowsServer. The exact folder is inside your dedicated-server installation.
Before changing anything
- Record the current value and the server’s listening port so you can undo a change.
- Stop the dedicated server before editing an INI file. A clean, graceful shutdown writes configuration to disk; an edit made while the process is running may disappear when the process exits.
- If the configuration directory or a particular file is missing, shut the server down gracefully at least once and check again. Some files are not created until that first clean shutdown.
- Make a backup copy of any INI file before editing it. Keep the section headers and spelling exactly as shown; INI keys are read by their section and key names.
- Change one setting at a time, restart, and check the server log or connection behavior before making another change.
Use Server Manager for supported server-wide options
Server Manager is the supported editor for the settings stored in ServerSettings.<PORT>.sav. Do not try to alter that binary file with a text editor or hex editor. Depending on the game version, the manager exposes the following controls:

Open the server’s management interface, select the server you want to configure, change the relevant field, and apply the change shown by the interface. If a setting does not take effect immediately, perform the restart requested by Server Manager rather than editing the binary save file manually.
Set the autosave interval
The autosave command is entered in Server Manager’s console. The command takes a number of seconds:

- Select the target server.
- Enter
FG.AutosaveIntervalfollowed by the interval in seconds. For example,FG.AutosaveInterval 300sets five minutes. - Submit the command and watch the console for confirmation or an error.
The documented default is 300 seconds (five minutes). The official settings description expresses the same control in minutes, with a range of 0–120 and a default of 5. A value of 0 disables automatic saves. Autosaves rotate across three save slots rather than continually replacing one slot.
Shortening the interval reduces the amount of progress that can be lost, but saving can briefly reduce performance. On a busy server, choose an interval that matches the number of players and the cost of a save instead of assuming that more frequent saves are always better.

Change the maximum number of players in Game.ini
MaxPlayers is a server-side game-session value. The documented default is 4. The server configuration example uses 8, but raising the cap above the tuned default can increase stability, performance and resource demands. Treat the example as a configuration possibility, not as a guarantee that every server can run eight players smoothly.
Windows procedure
- Gracefully stop the dedicated server.
- Open the server installation’s
FactoryGameSavedConfigWindowsServerdirectory. - Open
Game.iniin a plain-text editor. If the file does not exist, start and then gracefully stop the server once so it can generate its configuration files. - Find or create the section header
[/Script/Engine.GameSession]. - Under that header, add or change
MaxPlayers=8, replacing 8 with the cap you actually want. - Save the file, start the server, and verify the value by connecting with the expected number of players.
Linux procedure
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Open
FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.iniin a text editor. - Under
[/Script/Engine.GameSession], add or changeMaxPlayers=8(or your chosen value). - Save the file and start the server again.
The section header matters: placing MaxPlayers elsewhere can leave the effective cap unchanged. Do not create multiple competing entries for the same key while troubleshooting; keep one clear value in the correct section.

You can supply the same value without editing the file by passing an INI override when launching the server:
-ini:Game:[/Script/Engine.GameSession]:MaxPlayers=8This is useful for testing a temporary cap or for a scripted launch. Keep the override in the launch script or service definition if it must be present after every restart. If you remove the flag, the value stored in Game.ini is used again.

Use command-line startup flags
Start the server with flags appended to its launch command. On Linux, run ./FactoryServer.sh from the dedicated-server installation directory, followed by any options you need.
Documented port and operation flags

Since Update 8, game traffic, the query service and the HTTPS API share the main port. If you change -Port=7777 to another value, account for that shared use in firewall rules and port forwarding rather than opening only one of those services.
INI overrides and additional flags
The general override form is:
-ini:<FILE>:[<SECTION>]:<KEY>=<VALUE>For example, the player-cap override is -ini:Game:[/Script/Engine.GameSession]:MaxPlayers=8. A third-party command-line guide also documents -DisableSeasonalEvents, -DisablePacketRouting and -Log (to show logs in the Linux terminal). Those options are not established in the official configuration documentation cited here, so confirm that they are supported by your current server build before relying on them in production.
Starting and checking a Linux server
- Change to the directory that contains
FactoryServer.sh. - Make sure the script is executable if your installation requires it.
- Run
./FactoryServer.shwith the flags you need, for example a port or an INI override. - Keep the terminal visible during initial testing, or use the documented unattended behavior for a managed service.
- Watch for port-binding errors, configuration parse errors and a normal server-ready message before attempting to connect.
On Windows, launch the dedicated-server executable using the same flag syntax appropriate to your installation. The configuration path differs, but the distinction between Server Manager settings, INI values and process-start options remains the same.

What administration features are available?
The sources reviewed do not document built-in chat commands such as /kick or /ban. Server administration is performed through Server Manager, configuration files, startup options or the HTTPS API. Do not assume that a command from another Unreal Engine game or a community tool is valid for Satisfactory.
For routine administration, use Server Manager to change supported settings and its console for the autosave command. Use an INI edit for persistent game-session values, and use startup flags when the value should be tied to a particular launch or service configuration.

Troubleshoot settings that do not appear to work
The INI edit vanished
Most often, the server was still running when the file was edited. Stop it, allow a graceful shutdown to complete, make the edit, and then start it again. Check the file after shutdown to confirm which values the server actually wrote.
The file is missing
Run the server once and shut it down cleanly. The configuration files may not be generated until that sequence has completed. Confirm that you are looking in the platform-specific LinuxServer or WindowsServer directory inside the correct installation.

MaxPlayers has no effect
- Confirm the key is in
Game.ini, not a client configuration file. - Confirm the exact section header is
[/Script/Engine.GameSession]. - Remove duplicate
MaxPlayersentries while testing. - Check whether a launch script supplies an
-ini:Game:override that supersedes the file. - Restart after saving the file.
The server will not bind to the requested port
Check whether another process already uses the port. The documented default main port is 7777, and the server tries the next higher port if that port is occupied. If you intentionally use another port, update firewall and forwarding rules for the selected main port and account for the reliable port as well.
Autosaves cause noticeable pauses
Saving more often increases the number of save operations. If the default five-minute interval is stable but a shorter value causes interruptions, increase the interval while keeping a separate manual-save habit for risky building or maintenance work. Remember that 0 disables autosaves entirely.
Version and configuration caveats
Dedicated-server options and defaults can change between Satisfactory updates. The configuration example that documents MaxPlayers=8 and a default of 4 is an older wiki excerpt, so verify the current wiki revision and your server build before treating those values as universal. The autosave figures are internally consistent across the documented command (300 seconds) and settings page (5 minutes), but the available UI labels can still vary by version.
Do not assume that every INI file mentioned in community guides is a server file. One third-party guide lists a server-side GameUserSettings.ini, while the official settings documentation describes that file for the client under the user’s AppData directory. Server-side use of that file is not confirmed here; avoid moving client settings into the server configuration unless current official documentation supports it.
A practical decision checklist
- Need to rename the server, change its password, alter auto-pause or schedule a restart? Use Server Manager.
- Need to change the autosave period? Use Server Manager’s Console and
FG.AutosaveIntervalin seconds. - Need to change the player cap? Edit
Game.iniunder[/Script/Engine.GameSession], or use the-ini:Game:startup override. - Need a different listening port or a non-interactive launch? Use the relevant startup flag.
- Editing an INI? Stop the server first and make a backup.
- Unsure whether a setting belongs to the server or client? Do not copy a client-only file into the server; verify the setting’s documented scope.
Keeping each value in its supported location prevents the most common configuration failures: edits being overwritten, values being placed in the wrong section, and launch flags silently taking precedence over the file you changed.
