You can change Ray-Ban Meta glasses controls without replacing the glasses. Playback is managed from the right-temple touchpad, while system sounds, notifications, voice behavior, and privacy choices are managed in the Meta AI app. The exact labels and available features can vary by app version, glasses generation, supported language, and region.
The menu paths and behaviors below were checked against Ray-Ban’s US support FAQ and Meta’s Responsible Innovation guidance on October 13, 2026. If a label differs on your phone, use the same category in the current Meta AI app rather than assuming a hardware fault.
Before changing a setting
Keep the glasses powered on and charged, and keep the phone within Bluetooth range while you work. Most app controls apply to the glasses that are currently connected to the Meta AI app. If the app is showing another pair or no connected device, reconnect before testing a change. You do not need to buy new glasses to adjust these controls; an app update or a different menu label may be all that has changed.

- Media controls: gestures on the right-temple touchpad change streamed music, podcasts, and similar playback.
- System alerts: settings in the app change warning sounds, lock-screen notices, and the wearer-facing notification light.
- Voice and privacy: the app controls voice activation, wake-phrase behavior, capture preferences, shared information, and available voice-recording controls.
Changing one area does not automatically change the others. For example, lowering music does not lower a low-battery warning, and turning Voice Control off does not erase recordings already associated with an account.
Adjust music and other media from the right temple
Media playback uses the capacitive touchpad on the right temple. These gestures affect music, podcasts, and other streaming audio; they do not change the volume of system alerts such as a low-battery warning.

Use a deliberate tap or swipe on the touchpad rather than pressing the frame. A single tap is a playback command, while a press-and-hold can invoke voice control when that feature is enabled. Separating those gestures helps avoid starting an assistant when you only meant to pause audio.
When the glasses are closed, Ray-Ban says audio streaming pauses. Reopening them reconnects streaming through Bluetooth. That behavior concerns streamed media, not the separate system-sound setting described below. The touchpad gestures and streaming behavior are documented in the Ray-Ban Meta support FAQ.
Change system sounds and notification behavior
Adjust system-alert volume
- Open the Meta AI app on the phone paired with your glasses.
- Open Settings.
- Tap System Alerts.
- Tap System Sounds, then choose the desired level.
This control covers sounds generated by the glasses rather than music from a streaming app. Ray-Ban gives a low-battery warning and a capture sound as examples. Its FAQ states that these sounds can be adjusted but cannot be turned off completely. Lowering the level therefore reduces their volume; it is not a mute switch. If you need silence in a meeting or another quiet setting, do not assume the System Sounds slider provides a complete mute mode.
Manage push notifications sent to the phone
System Alerts also contains notification preferences. Ray-Ban describes push notifications as important information about the glasses that appears on the phone’s lock screen, such as a low-storage warning. These phone notifications are different from spoken message announcements in your ears. If you want fewer lock-screen notices, review the options in Settings → System Alerts and also check the phone’s own notification permission for the Meta AI app.
A lock-screen notice can therefore be present even when message announcements are disabled, because the two functions use different controls. Conversely, enabling message announcements does not promise that every general glasses warning will be spoken through the frames.

- In the Meta AI app, open Settings.
- Tap Communication.
- Select the connected source you want to change: Your phone, Messenger, or WhatsApp.
- Switch Announce messages or Automatic message read out on or off.
The two switches govern spoken incoming-message behavior, not lock-screen push notices. Availability also depends on permissions on the phone and on the selected messaging service. If a toggle is missing or messages are not announced, verify that the service is connected and allowed to deliver notifications and access the relevant message content.

Check each service separately. A setting changed under Messenger does not necessarily change WhatsApp or the phone’s general message behavior. If you share the phone with a work or personal account, confirm that the account shown in the selected source is the one receiving the messages.
Set the inward-facing notification LED brightness
The app lets you set the brightness of the notification LED that faces the wearer to Automatic, Low, Medium, or High. Automatic uses the glasses’ ambient-light sensor. This setting changes the inward-facing notification indicator only; it does not dim, hide, or disable the front-facing camera-capture LED.
Choose Automatic when lighting changes throughout the day, or a fixed level when you need a predictable indicator. Do not use this menu as a camera-privacy control: the light that faces other people is a separate capture signal.

Turn voice controls and the wake phrase on or off
Disable or enable Voice Control
- Open the Meta AI app.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Voice.
- Turn the Voice Control toggle on or off.
When Voice Control is enabled, pressing and holding the touchpad can invoke voice control. The wake-phrase preference is a separate setting in the Voice area, so changing the wake phrase does not automatically change the main Voice Control toggle. Treat those as two independent choices: one controls whether voice commands are available, and the other controls how the glasses listen for the phrase.
To stop hands-free activation, review both settings instead of changing only one. Turning off the wake phrase addresses wake-word activation; turning off Voice Control addresses voice-command availability more broadly. The app may show slightly different wording after an update, but the controls remain in the Voice category.
Understand language and region limits
The Ray-Ban US FAQ says most functional voice commands operate in English, French, and Italian, while Meta AI assistance is available only in English in the context described there. That statement is specific to the US support information and should not be read as a promise that every command, language, or Meta AI feature works in every country. Language support, account region, app release, and glasses generation can all change what appears in the Voice menu.
When voice commands are active or the wake word is triggered, the notification LED pulses white. This is a voice-status signal. It is separate from the front-facing LED that indicates camera use.

Where captures stay before you transfer them
Meta’s Responsible Innovation guidance states: “Everything you capture on your glasses stays on your glasses until you choose to move them onto your phone using the Meta AI app. Once there, they’re stored in your photo roll just like any other photo you’ve taken on your phone.” In practical terms, taking a photo or video does not by itself place it in the phone’s camera roll. You choose when to import it through the Meta AI app; after transfer, it follows the phone’s normal photo-storage behavior.

This statement describes the glasses-to-phone transfer path. It does not establish that every later copy, cloud backup, message attachment, or third-party service handles the file in the same way. Those destinations have their own storage and sharing controls. If a recording is sensitive, review the phone’s photo permissions, backup settings, and sharing destinations after importing it.
What the capture LEDs communicate
Meta says capture activity for gallery photos or videos, and for streaming, activates notification and capture indicators. Ray-Ban’s FAQ describes the front-facing capture LED as a signal to people nearby: a photo produces a white blink, while video recording produces a steady white light. The LED is a visible indicator, not permission to record. Ask before capturing people, and follow the rules of workplaces, schools, medical facilities, private homes, and any other location where recording is restricted or unexpected.
Do not use the inward-facing notification-LED brightness control to infer anything about camera privacy. It has no effect on the front-facing capture indicator. Likewise, a pulsing white notification LED during voice use should not be mistaken for a camera recording signal.
Streaming is also a capture-sensitive activity
Meta’s guidance includes streaming when describing activation of notification and capture indicators. If you stream from the glasses, people nearby may see the same type of visible signaling intended to communicate camera activity. Follow the platform’s rules and the venue’s policy, and tell people what you are doing rather than relying only on the indicator.
Manage privacy, shared information, and voice recordings
Use the Meta AI app’s privacy controls
Meta says the Meta AI app provides controls for capture preferences, voice preferences, notification preferences, and information shared with Meta. The names and placement of these controls can change as the app is updated, so start with the app’s current privacy or data-controls area rather than relying on an old screenshot or a menu path from another release.
Review these choices when you first set up the glasses and again after a major app update. Privacy controls are separate from the basic playback gestures, so adjusting music volume will not change what information is shared or how captures are handled.
Delete voice recordings
Meta says users can delete voice recordings and that a recording deleted by the user will not be used for future training. The official overview does not establish one dependable, universal tap sequence for every current app version, phone platform, country, or account type. To remove recordings, open the current Meta AI app privacy or data controls, look for voice-history or voice-recording management, and follow the deletion confirmation shown there. If that option is not visible, use the app’s current Help or privacy controls for your region instead of assuming that uninstalling the app deletes server-side data.
Deletion of a voice recording is distinct from turning Voice Control off. The toggle prevents the glasses from responding to voice control; it does not, by itself, document deletion of recordings already associated with an account. Deleting a recording also does not automatically remove photos or videos that you have already transferred to the phone.

Fix voice commands that are not responding
If the glasses do not react to a spoken command, check the conditions that affect recognition before changing unrelated audio settings.
- Confirm power and wear status. Make sure the glasses are on and charged. A depleted battery or glasses that are not properly active can prevent voice interaction.
- Check both voice switches. In Settings → Voice, verify that Voice Control is enabled and that the selected wake-phrase preference is enabled if you are using the wake word.
- Reduce competing noise. Background conversation, wind, traffic, or loud media can interfere with the microphones. Try the same command in a quieter location.
- Check Bluetooth distance. Keep the paired phone within Bluetooth range. Some voice features rely on the phone connection and may not respond when that link is lost.
- Check language and region support. A command may fail if it is not supported in the language selected for your glasses or account. The US FAQ’s language statement does not guarantee identical availability elsewhere.
- Review current microphone troubleshooting. Ray-Ban’s support guidance includes a microphone-adjustment troubleshooting option in a current app and software context. Because labels and requirements can change, follow the live instructions in the Ray-Ban FAQ rather than applying a fixed version number from an older guide.
Fix notification and message-announcement problems
- If a low-storage or low-battery notice is missing from the phone lock screen, inspect Settings → System Alerts and the phone’s notification permission for the Meta AI app.
- If music is loud but warnings are quiet, adjust System Sounds; the touchpad’s media-volume swipe does not control alerts.
- If the glasses do not read messages aloud, open Settings → Communication, select the affected phone or service, and verify the relevant announcement toggle and phone permissions.
- If the wearer-facing LED is hard to see, change its brightness between Automatic, Low, Medium, and High. Do not expect that change to alter the front-facing capture LED.
- If a service-specific option is absent, confirm that the phone, Messenger, or WhatsApp account is connected and that the service permits notification access. Feature availability can differ by service, operating system, country, and app release.
- If only one service fails, test another connected source. That helps distinguish a service permission problem from a glasses-wide notification problem.
Privacy checklist before recording
- Know which indicator should be visible: voice activation pulses the notification LED, while a photo blinks the front-facing capture LED and video recording keeps that LED steady white.
- Tell people when you intend to record and respect local laws and venue policies. An illuminated LED does not replace consent.
- Remember that a new capture remains on the glasses until you transfer it with the Meta AI app.
- After transfer, review the phone’s photo-roll, backup, and sharing permissions if the material is sensitive.
- Use the app’s current privacy and data controls to manage capture, voice, notifications, shared information, and available voice-recording deletion options.
- Do not assume that turning off a wake phrase deletes prior recordings, or that deleting a voice recording deletes transferred photos and videos.

Does changing notification LED brightness disable the camera light? No. The Automatic, Low, Medium, and High choices apply to the inward-facing notification LED. The front-facing capture LED remains a separate signal for camera activity.
Why is voice control not responding? Confirm that the glasses are on and charged, Voice Control and the intended wake-phrase setting are enabled, the phone is within Bluetooth range, and background noise is low. Also check language and region support and follow the current microphone troubleshooting guidance in Ray-Ban’s FAQ.
Do I need new glasses to get these controls? No. These are adjustment and privacy controls for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Menu names and feature availability may change with app versions, glasses generations, languages, and regions.
