You can change the Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed’s sound profile, microphone behavior, and sidetone in Razer Synapse. The Razer Audio App also supports EQ-preset customization on iOS and Android. Sidetone—the sound of your own voice in the headset—can be changed with the configuration roller under the right ear cup or from Synapse’s microphone controls. Advanced EQ tuning and microphone enhancements require Synapse on a Windows PC, so some controls will not appear on every device or connection mode.
Identify the headset and the three controls
These instructions apply to the standard Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed, model RZ04-054201. Razer publishes a separate PlayStation variant, so check the model number before following a layout or software instruction. The standard headset is specified at 270 g by Razer; the product page does not state a publication year for that specification (page accessed in 2026).
| Setting | What it changes | Where to adjust it | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| EQ | The balance of playback frequencies, such as bass, mids, and treble. | EQ presets in Razer Synapse or the Razer Audio App. | Razer says advanced EQ tuning requires Synapse on a Windows PC. |
| Microphone | Microphone controls and any enhancements exposed by the current Synapse version. | The headset’s device page, then the MIC tab in Synapse. | Available controls can depend on Windows, the app version, and the selected device. |
| Sidetone | How much of your own microphone audio is played back through the headset. | The configuration roller under the right ear cup or Synapse’s MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) control. | Sidetone is microphone monitoring, not the game or music volume. |
Razer describes the roller this way: “The configuration roller allows you to adjust sidetone, enabling you to increase or decrease how much of your own voice you hear through the headset.” That control changes self-monitoring; it does not replace the operating system’s microphone-input level.
Prepare the headset before changing anything
A missing control is often a connection, model, or platform issue rather than a defective headset. Work through these checks first:

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm that the headset is the standard RZ04-054201 model, not the separately documented PlayStation version.
- Connect the headset and make sure it appears as the selected device in the software you are using.
- On Windows, install or open the current Razer Synapse version supported for this model. Razer’s exact-model support page documents Synapse 4 support and the headset layout: Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed RZ04-054201 Support & FAQs.
- For mobile EQ changes, install the Razer Audio App on iOS or Android and verify that the headset is listed as a supported product. Razer maintains the supported-product list in its Razer Audio App Support & FAQs.
- Check the physical microphone mute toggle. A muted headset can still appear connected while sending no voice to a call or recording app.
- If you use more than one connection method, confirm which connection is active. Razer’s SmartSwitch documentation says the headset’s EQ presets can be customized in Synapse or the Razer Audio App, but the controls exposed can vary with connection mode, app version, and platform.
Adjust EQ presets
EQ changes affect what you hear from games, music, videos, and calls. They do not by themselves raise the microphone level or change sidetone. Razer documents two routes for customizing EQ presets: Synapse on a computer and the Razer Audio App on a supported iOS or Android device.
Use Razer Synapse on Windows
- Connect the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed and open Razer Synapse.
- Select the headset from the devices shown in Synapse.
- Open the headset’s audio or EQ area and locate its EQ presets. Razer’s current screens can change, so use the labels displayed for your installed Synapse version rather than relying on an older screenshot.
- Choose a preset to hear its effect, then use the available customization controls to adjust it if your version exposes them.
- Apply or save the change using the control presented by Synapse, and test it in the game or application where you intend to use the profile.
Razer’s product FAQ distinguishes ordinary preset selection from advanced tuning: advanced EQ tuning requires Synapse on a Windows PC. If you can select a preset but cannot edit individual bands or other advanced controls, that may be an expected platform limitation rather than an installation failure.
Use the Razer Audio App on iOS or Android
- Install and open the Razer Audio App on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
- Connect the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed and select it in the app.
- Open the EQ-presets area and choose the preset you want to customize.
- Change the controls the app presents, then listen to the result through the headset.
The Audio App route is useful when you want to make a quick preset change without a Windows PC. It is not a substitute for every Synapse function: Razer specifically says advanced EQ tuning requires Synapse on Windows. If an EQ control is absent on mobile, use Synapse for the advanced options instead of assuming the headset is malfunctioning.

Choose an EQ without relying on an “official best” preset
Razer’s documentation explains how to customize presets but does not designate one curve as the best for every game, music style, or listener. Start with the preset closest to your use, then make small changes while listening to familiar material. Test dialogue, quiet environmental sounds, and loud effects separately; a setting that makes explosions more prominent can also mask voices or footsteps. Keep the original preset available so you can return to it if the result is worse.
If EQ controls are missing
- Check that the headset itself—not a different audio output—is selected in Synapse or the Audio App.
- Confirm that you are using the standard RZ04-054201 model.
- On Windows, use Synapse when you need advanced tuning; the product FAQ does not promise those controls on mobile.
- Review the active connection mode and the app version. Razer’s SmartSwitch instructions explain that EQ presets are customizable in either app, while the available controls can depend on the current setup.
- Close and reopen the app after reconnecting the headset. If the device still does not appear, follow the model-specific support page rather than applying instructions for the PlayStation variant.
Configure the microphone
Microphone controls are in Synapse’s device page. Start there before changing call-application settings, because a muted headset or the wrong operating-system input can make every software adjustment appear ineffective.
Open the MIC tab in Synapse
- Connect the headset and open Razer Synapse on Windows.
- Select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed from the device list.
- Open the device’s MIC tab.
- Adjust the microphone controls and enhancements that your Synapse installation presents.
- Speak while watching the calling or recording application’s input meter. This confirms that the application is receiving the headset microphone rather than a laptop, webcam, or another connected device.
Razer’s product FAQ states that microphone enhancements require Synapse on a Windows PC. Do not assume that a particular enhancement, switch, or numeric range will appear on every operating system or every Synapse release. The exact-model support page documents Synapse 4 support, but the layout can change as the software is updated.

Fix a microphone that produces no input
- Check the physical mute toggle. Turn mute off, then speak again. This is the fastest check when the headset is connected but the input meter remains silent.
- Select the headset as the input device. In the operating system’s sound settings and in the calling or recording app, choose the BlackShark microphone instead of an internal microphone or another USB/Bluetooth input.
- Recheck the MIC tab. Confirm that the headset is selected in Synapse and that the controls are not set to a state that suppresses your voice.
- Test outside the call. Use a system recording or input meter. If the microphone works there but not in one call app, select the headset again inside that app.
- Check permissions. If the operating system blocks microphone access, the headset can be correctly selected yet still provide no usable input.
These checks address routing and mute state. They do not establish that a particular enhancement is available on mobile or on a non-Windows computer; Razer’s documented requirement for enhancements is Synapse on Windows.
Adjust sidetone (microphone monitoring)
Sidetone is your own voice fed back into the headset. It can help you avoid shouting, but too much can be distracting, especially when you are trying to listen for quiet game audio. Lower it or turn it off if you hear unwanted self-audio.
Use the configuration roller
- Put on the headset and locate the configuration roller under the right ear cup.
- Speak at your normal volume while turning the roller gradually.
- Stop when your voice is audible at a comfortable level. If you hear too much self-audio, turn it down; if you cannot judge your speaking volume, turn it up slightly.
This is the quickest adjustment because it does not require opening software. The roller changes sidetone, not the microphone’s input gain and not the game or music volume.

Use Synapse’s sidetone control
- Open Razer Synapse on Windows and select the headset.
- Open the device’s MIC tab.
- Find MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE).
- Toggle monitoring on or off, or adjust its level using the control Synapse provides.
- Speak and listen after each change. Keep the level low enough that it does not mask the audio you are trying to hear.
Razer documents this software route in its support article, Why am I hearing myself speak on my headset, and how can I turn it off?. If you are hearing yourself and do not want to, disabling MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) is the direct fix.
When the roller and Synapse seem inconsistent
- Confirm that you are turning the configuration roller, not a different volume control.
- Check the headset selected in Synapse and make sure it is the connected RZ04-054201 device.
- Open the MIC tab and verify whether MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) is enabled.
- Test with a short recording or voice preview. A call application may add its own monitoring or processing, which can make self-audio seem higher than the headset setting alone.
- If the software control is unavailable, use the physical roller while you verify the Windows connection and Synapse installation.
Which adjustment method should you use?
| Your goal | Best starting route | Why | Platform note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Change the overall game or music character | EQ presets in Synapse or the Razer Audio App | Both apps document preset customization for the headset. | Advanced EQ tuning requires Synapse on Windows. |
| Change microphone controls or enhancements | Synapse device page > MIC | This is Razer’s documented location for headset microphone settings. | Enhancements require Synapse on a Windows PC. |
| Quickly hear less or more of your own voice | Configuration roller under the right ear cup | It works without navigating software. | It changes sidetone only. |
| Turn self-monitoring off or set it precisely | Synapse device page > MIC > MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) | The software exposes an on/off control or level adjustment. | Use Synapse on Windows for the documented route. |
Connection and platform details that affect what you see
The BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed can be managed through more than one Razer application, but the applications do not expose identical features. Razer’s SmartSwitch connection-mode guide says the applicable headset’s EQ presets can be customized in Synapse or the Razer Audio App. The product FAQ separately limits advanced EQ tuning and microphone enhancements to Synapse on a Windows PC.
That distinction explains several common situations:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- A phone can show the headset and let you customize an EQ preset, while advanced band-level controls are available only in Windows Synapse.
- A headset can play audio normally while microphone enhancements are absent because the computer is not running Synapse on Windows.
- A control can disappear when a different device is selected in the app or when the headset is using a connection mode that does not expose that function.
- Instructions for another BlackShark model or the PlayStation variant may show a different physical layout. Use the RZ04-054201 support page for this headset.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| Symptom | Likely check | Action |
|---|---|---|
| EQ presets are not visible | The headset is not selected, the app is outdated, or the platform does not expose the requested controls. | Reconnect the headset, select it in Synapse or the Audio App, check the app version, and use Windows Synapse for advanced tuning. |
| You can choose a preset but cannot edit advanced EQ controls | Advanced tuning is being attempted outside Synapse on Windows. | Move the adjustment to Synapse on a Windows PC. |
| The call app receives no voice | Physical mute is on or another input device is selected. | Turn off the headset mute toggle and select the BlackShark microphone in both operating-system and call-app input settings. |
| You hear yourself constantly | Sidetone is enabled. | Turn the configuration roller down or disable/خفض MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) in Synapse. |
| Sidetone changes do not seem to work | The wrong device or control is being adjusted, or another app is adding monitoring. | Confirm RZ04-054201 is selected, use the MIC tab, test with a short recording, and check the call app’s own monitoring option. |
| Microphone enhancements are missing | The current platform is not Windows with Synapse. | Use Synapse on a Windows PC; Razer does not promise those enhancements on every platform. |
A reliable setup sequence
For a new installation, make the changes in this order so that one control does not hide a problem with another:
- Confirm the model number and connect the headset.
- Select the headset in Synapse or the Razer Audio App.
- Choose or customize the EQ preset and test playback.
- Open Synapse’s MIC tab and verify that the microphone is not muted and is selected as the computer and application input.
- Set sidetone with the right-ear-cup configuration roller, then fine-tune or disable MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) in Synapse if you are on Windows.
- Test in the actual game, meeting, or recording app. Recheck that app’s selected output and input if the behavior differs from the system test.
No replacement microphone or other accessory is required to adjust these settings. The controls described here are provided by the headset, Synapse, or the Razer Audio App; availability depends on the model, connection, platform, and software version.
