You usually cannot install YouTube Kids directly from the Amazon Appstore on a Fire tablet. The two practical methods are:
- Use YouTube Kids in Silk Browser—the easiest and safest option.
- Install Google Play and download the YouTube Kids Android app—more work, with possible compatibility problems.
Google’s official web address is youtubekids.com. Start with the browser method unless you specifically need the native app.
Method 1: Use YouTube Kids in Silk Browser
This method does not require Google Play, Google Play Services, or an APK file. It works through the Fire tablet’s built-in browser, which Amazon may label Silk or Internet.

Open YouTube Kids
- Open Silk or Internet from the Fire tablet’s app list.
- Tap the address bar.
- Enter https://youtubekids.com.
- Tap Go.
- Tap Get Started when the YouTube Kids setup screen appears.
- Complete the parent verification or birth-year prompt.
- Sign in with a Google Account, or choose the option to continue without signing in.
- Choose an existing child profile or create one, then select the appropriate age or content level.
The browser version requires an internet connection. Unlike the native Android app, it does not provide native-app offline downloads. Some app-level features may also be unavailable in the browser.

Add a YouTube Kids shortcut to the Fire home screen
You can make the website behave more like an app by adding a shortcut:
- Keep YouTube Kids open in Silk.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Select Add to Home Screen.
- Change the shortcut name to YouTube Kids, if necessary.
- Tap Add or the confirmation button shown by Silk.
The new icon is only a shortcut to the website. It does not install a separate YouTube Kids application.
If YouTube Kids is blocked in an Amazon Kids profile
Silk and web access may be disabled or restricted in a child profile. A parent must enable web browsing and approve the YouTube Kids website through the child-profile controls.

On the tablet, open the parent controls and look for the child profile’s Child Settings and web-access options. Amazon also provides these controls through Parent Dashboard. Depending on the Fire OS version, the labels and menu layout may differ.
Enable the relevant web-browsing permission, then add the YouTube Kids domain to the approved websites or web-video list. The domain to approve is:
youtubekids.comA third-party guide reports a path similar to Settings > Profiles & Family Library > Amazon Kids > [child profile] > Web Settings, followed by enabling Web Access. The exact menu path is not identical on every Fire tablet, so use the child profile’s current web controls if these labels are different.
Amazon’s child-profile tools can also provide daily time limits, educational goals, age filters, usage history, and lists of preapproved websites or web videos. A Fire Kids tablet can have up to four child profiles.

Method 2: Install the YouTube Kids app with Google Play
Use this route only if you want the native app and understand that it is not an official Amazon-supported installation method. Google Play is not normally included with Fire tablets, so it must first be installed on the adult or parent profile.
Before you begin
- Back up anything important before changing the tablet.
- Connect to reliable Wi-Fi and charge the tablet.
- Use the adult profile for the Google Play installation.
- Do not assume that every Fire tablet supports the same Google Play components.
Compatibility depends on the Fire OS version, tablet generation, region, and whether Google Play Services works correctly on the device. Claims that YouTube Kids works on every Fire tablet are not verified.
Allow APK installation from Silk
- Open Settings.
- Go to Security & Privacy.
- Tap Install Unknown Apps.
- Select Silk Browser.
- Turn on Allow from this source.
This setting permits Silk to install APK files downloaded through the browser. Only use APK files from a source you trust, and avoid installing random or modified packages.
Install the Google Play components in order
The commonly used sideloading sequence is:
- Google Account Manager
- Google Services Framework
- Google Play Services
- Google Play Store
Download and install each APK separately, in that order. Restart the Fire tablet after all four installations finish. Opening Play Store before the restart can lead to crashes or sign-in errors.

Download YouTube Kids from Google Play
- Open Play Store from the adult profile.
- Sign in with a Google Account if prompted.
- Search for YouTube Kids.
- Confirm that the developer is Google LLC.
- Tap Install.
- Open the app and complete its parent verification and child-profile setup.
If YouTube Kids installs but will not open, Google Play Services is a likely cause. Check that it was installed, that the APK matches the tablet, and that the four Google components were installed in the required order.
Make the app available in an Amazon Kids child profile
Installing YouTube Kids on the adult profile does not automatically make it appear in an Amazon Kids child profile. Each child profile is managed separately.

Use the parent controls to check whether the installed app can be enabled or shared with the child profile. The exact current Amazon interface for sharing a Google Play-installed app is not documented consistently, and some Fire OS versions may not expose the app through the normal Amazon Kids library.
If the app remains invisible, advanced users sometimes enable the already-installed package for the child user with Android Debug Bridge (ADB). This is a community workaround, not an official Amazon or Google procedure.
Advanced option: enable the installed packages with ADB
First enable Developer Options and USB debugging on the tablet, install ADB on a computer, connect the tablet by USB, and accept the debugging authorization prompt. Then run:

./adb shell pm list usersThe final command displays the tablet’s user IDs. Find the ID belonging to the Amazon Kids child profile. Do not assume it is 10 or 12.

For parental controls, remember that two systems may be involved. Amazon Kids controls the Fire child profile, web access, time limits, and approved content. Google’s Family Link instructions for YouTube Kids use Family Link > select child > Settings card > Manage settings > More > YouTube Kids, but Google documents that flow for Android devices and Chromebooks. It does not guarantee full Family Link control over an Amazon Fire child profile.
