To add Tebex to a crossplay Space Engineers server, run the game as a dedicated server configured for EOS and console compatibility, create a Space Engineers server entry in the Tebex Control Panel, install either Tebex’s Vanilla Dedicated Server plugin or its TorchAPI plugin, enter the Tebex secret key, and confirm the connection in the server console. A player-hosted world is not the deployment covered by Keen’s crossplay documentation.
Tebex supports both installation paths. The vanilla plugin is simpler and provides the documented /give_item and /give_money commands. TorchAPI adds a plugin platform, custom commands, and more advanced integration, but requires additional Torch administration.
What you need before installing Tebex
Crossplay and Tebex are separate pieces of the setup. Tebex can communicate with the server only after the server itself is reachable through the configuration used for PC-and-console play.
- A dedicated Space Engineers server: Install and run Space Engineers Dedicated Server on a Windows PC or use a managed host that exposes the required server settings.
- EOS and console compatibility enabled: Configure the dedicated server so PC and console players can discover it through the EOS server list. Keen’s Community Crossplay announcement, dated April 4, 2025, describes cross-platform play through dedicated servers and EOS.
- Administrative access: You need access to the server’s files, the Space Engineers Dedicated Server configuration tool, or the host’s equivalent controls.
- A Tebex account and game-server entry: The secret key is generated for the specific Space Engineers server entry in the Tebex Control Panel.
- Plugin permission from your host: A managed host must permit server-side DLL or ZIP plugins and provide a way to set EOS, networking, and console-compatibility options.
A normal locally hosted or player-hosted world does not provide the dedicated-server deployment described in Keen’s crossplay guidance. If your server is not listed through EOS for the intended PC and console audience, fix that first; adding Tebex will not make a non-crossplay world discoverable.

Choose the Tebex integration: vanilla or TorchAPI
Both integrations run on the server, so either can be used with an EOS-configured crossplay server. The practical choice depends on whether you need only the documented basic commands or a broader plugin environment.

Tebex describes itself as “the official monetization provider for Space Engineers.” That does not remove the need to follow the game server’s EOS requirements or to keep the generated secret key private.
Step 1: Prepare and verify the crossplay server
Install a dedicated server
Install Space Engineers Dedicated Server on a Windows PC, or provision a compatible managed server. Start the dedicated-server tool and make sure you can open the server configuration rather than only launching a player-hosted world.
Enable EOS and console compatibility
In the server configuration, enable the EOS/network and console-compatibility options required for crossplay. The exact labels can vary with the dedicated-server tool or host control panel, so use the settings that make the server available through the EOS list to both PC and console clients.
Save the configuration, start the server, and test discovery from the intended clients. A PC player and a console player should be able to find the same dedicated server through the crossplay/EOS listing. If the server is visible only on one platform, do not continue to plugin installation until the EOS, networking, and console-compatibility settings are corrected.

- The plan supports Space Engineers dedicated servers rather than only player-hosted sessions.
- The control panel or file manager permits server plugins, DLLs, or Torch extensions.
- You can change the EOS and console-compatibility settings and restart the server after saving them.
Some hosts hide plugin directories or overwrite server files during updates. Ask the host how plugins are persisted before choosing the vanilla or TorchAPI route.
Step 2: Create the Tebex server entry and protect the key
- Sign in to the Tebex Control Panel.
- Create a game-server entry for Space Engineers.
- Open the Control Panel’s Game Servers page for that entry.
- Copy the server’s secret key.
The key authorizes the plugin to access the store associated with that server entry. Treat it like a password: do not put it in screenshots, public chat, a ticket visible to customers, a Git repository, or a configuration file that is shared outside the server administrators.
Use the key belonging to the exact store/server entry you intend to connect. A key copied from another game server entry can leave the plugin running but connected to the wrong store or unable to authenticate.
Step 3A: Install the vanilla Tebex plugin
Use this path when the documented /give_item and /give_money commands meet your needs and you want the fewest additional components.

Download and place the plugin files
- In the Tebex Control Panel, download the latest Vanilla Tebex Plugin ZIP.
- Unpack the ZIP into the Space Engineers dedicated-server root, following the package’s included folder structure.
- Confirm that the package contains
Tebex-SpaceEngineers.dllbefore continuing.
Do not rename the DLL. If your host does not provide access to the server root, use its documented upload or plugin-install function; if no such function exists, the host may not support this integration.
Add the assembly in the dedicated-server tool
- Open the Space Engineers Dedicated Server tool.
- Continue to the server configuration screen for the server you are editing.
- Open the Plugins tab.
- Under Assemblies, choose Add.
- Select
Tebex-SpaceEngineers.dll. - Select Tebex in the plugin list.
- Paste the secret key copied from Tebex’s Game Servers page.
- Save the configuration and start, or restart, the server.
The key belongs in the Tebex plugin configuration, not in an in-game chat command for the vanilla route. Keep the configuration accessible only to trusted administrators.

What the vanilla route can do
The documented vanilla integration supports /give_item and /give_money. If your store requires a different command, a custom entitlement action, or more elaborate server-side behavior, use TorchAPI instead of trying to extend the vanilla plugin beyond its documented command set.
Step 3B: Install the TorchAPI Tebex plugin
Choose TorchAPI when you need custom commands or advanced functionality and are prepared to operate Torch as an additional server layer.

- Download the TorchAPI Tebex plugin ZIP from the Tebex Control Panel.
- Place the ZIP, without extracting it, in Torch’s
Pluginsfolder. - Start Torch and allow it to load the plugin.
The ZIP placement is intentional. Extracting it into an arbitrary folder can prevent Torch from recognizing the package.
Configure Tebex in a graphical Torch installation
- Open Torch’s plugin management interface.
- Select Tebex under Plugins.
- Paste the secret key from Tebex’s Game Servers page.
- Save the plugin configuration.
- Restart or start the server so the new settings are loaded.
Configure Tebex in a headless Torch installation
For a headless installation, join the server as an owner after Torch is running and execute:
!tebex.secret your-secret-keyReplace your-secret-key with the key for the correct Tebex server entry. Run the command only as an authenticated owner and avoid streaming or recording the command where the key could be exposed.
Why TorchAPI is the richer route
TorchAPI provides a plugin platform around the Tebex integration, allowing custom commands and advanced functionality that the vanilla command set does not expose. That flexibility also adds another component to update and troubleshoot. Keep Torch, the Tebex plugin, and the game server on versions supported by your host and review their logs after updates.

Step 4: Confirm that Tebex connected
Do not assume a successful upload means the store is connected. Watch the server console during startup and look for lines showing that Tebex starts, the secret key is set, store information is loading, and the server connects to the store.
Tebex’s documented example includes:
[Tebex] [INFO] Connected to store https://yourstore.tebex.ioThe example URL is a format demonstration; your console should show the store associated with your own Tebex server entry. If the connection line appears, keep a copy of the startup log for your administrator records, but never publish the secret key that may appear in nearby configuration or diagnostic output.
Perform a safe functional check
- Confirm the Tebex plugin remains enabled after a full server restart.
- Verify that the store shown in the connection message is the intended store.
- Test a non-destructive store action appropriate to your server and permissions.
- Check that the action is processed by the correct server, not a second test instance using another key.
For a vanilla installation, the available command surface is limited to the documented commands. For TorchAPI, test each custom command in a controlled way before making it available to the whole player base.
Troubleshoot a Tebex plugin that will not connect
No Tebex startup messages appear
- Confirm that the DLL was added under the Dedicated Server tool’s Plugins > Assemblies area for the vanilla route.
- For TorchAPI, confirm that the Tebex ZIP is in Torch’s
Pluginsfolder and was not extracted. - Check that you restarted the correct server instance after saving the configuration.
- Verify that the host allows third-party server plugins and has not removed the files during deployment.
The plugin loads but authentication fails
- Copy the secret key again from the Tebex Control Panel’s Game Servers page.
- Check for a missing character, extra whitespace, or a key from a different server entry.
- Save the configuration after pasting the key, then restart the server.
- Keep the key private while checking logs or sending details to a host; redact it from screenshots and support tickets.
The server connects to Tebex but crossplay does not work
Tebex connectivity does not configure EOS. Recheck the dedicated server’s EOS/network and console-compatibility settings, then test discovery from both PC and console. If only one platform can see the server, the problem is in the crossplay deployment or host configuration rather than the Tebex key.
The log does not explain the failure
Enable Tebex Debug Mode temporarily and reproduce the startup or connection attempt. Review the detailed activity and error output, then disable Debug Mode for normal operation. Leaving verbose diagnostics enabled unnecessarily can make routine logs harder to read and may expose information that should remain private.
Commands do not execute
- With the vanilla plugin, use only the documented
/give_itemand/give_moneycommand capabilities. - If you require a custom command, move to the TorchAPI integration and configure the command through the Torch/Tebex setup.
- Check that the player or administrator issuing the command has the required in-game permissions.
- Review the startup log to ensure the intended plugin, rather than an older copy, loaded after the restart.
Operational and security checklist
- Run a dedicated server configured for EOS and console compatibility.
- Use one clearly identified Tebex server entry for each server instance.
- Store the secret key only in the plugin configuration or protected headless command workflow.
- Restrict file, Control Panel, and owner-command access to trusted administrators.
- Record whether the installation is vanilla or TorchAPI so future administrators know where to change settings.
- After updates, verify that the plugin remains enabled and that the console again reports a store connection.
- Disable Tebex Debug Mode after diagnosing a problem.
- Test purchases or entitlements on a controlled account before announcing them to players.
Which installation should you use?
Choose the vanilla plugin if your server is small or straightforward, your host supports the Dedicated Server tool’s assembly configuration, and /give_item and /give_money cover the store actions you plan to offer. It has fewer moving parts and is easier to audit.

Choose TorchAPI if your store needs custom commands, advanced functionality, or integration with other Torch plugins. Accept the additional operational work: Torch must be installed and maintained, the Tebex ZIP must stay in the correct folder, and configuration may be graphical or headless depending on your deployment.
In either case, the decisive prerequisite is the same: PC and console players need an EOS-enabled dedicated server. Tebex is the monetization connection layered on top of that server; it is not a replacement for the crossplay configuration.
