Microsoft Edge for Android can place a shortcut to the page you are currently viewing directly on the Android home screen. In recent Edge releases, the command is usually called Add to phone, not Add to Home screen.
Add an Edge website shortcut to the Android home screen
- Open Microsoft Edge on your Android phone.
- Browse to the exact webpage you want to save. Edge uses the active page’s address, so open the specific article, product page, dashboard, or other destination—not just the site’s homepage.
- Open the Edge menu. Depending on your version and screen layout, this is the three-line or three-dot button at the bottom of the screen. Older versions may show the menu button in the top-right corner.
- Tap Add to phone. If you do not see it immediately, swipe the row of menu actions sideways; the command may be outside the visible part of the row.
- Approve the Android prompt. Its wording varies by Edge and Android version. Look for Create shortcut, Add to home screen, or Install.
- Edit the shortcut name if Android offers that option, then tap Add or Install.
Android places the new icon in an available position on one of your home-screen panels. Tap the icon to open the saved webpage in Edge, or to launch the site as an installed web app if the website supports that feature.
Why Edge says “Add to phone” instead of “Add to Home screen”
Many older guides use the path Menu → Add to Home screen. That label changed in newer Edge for Android versions. Microsoft Q&A reports that Edge version 129.0.2792.65 used Add to phone, while version 128.0.2739.82 still showed Add to Home Screen. The menu also moved from the top-right area to the bottom in that transition.
Therefore, do not assume the feature is missing just because the old wording is not present. On a current installation, Add to phone is the option to try.

What kind of shortcut does Edge create?

| Installable Progressive Web App (PWA) | An app-like installation or shortcut. It may open without the usual Edge address bar and browser controls. |
The result depends on the website, Edge version, Android version, and the phone manufacturer’s launcher. The shortcut does not automatically point to the website’s front page unless that was the page open when you created it.
If “Add to phone” is missing
Check the menu’s horizontal action row
Edge may display menu actions in a horizontally scrollable row. Swipe that row left or right to reveal options that are off-screen.
Check whether you are using a tablet
Edge’s Android interface is not identical on phones and tablets. Some users report that the option is absent or unavailable on certain tablet configurations. If possible, test the same page on an Android phone running Edge.

Check for work or school restrictions
An organization that manages Edge can disable the Android Add to Phone policy. If the device or browser is managed by your employer or school, contact the administrator rather than trying to change the setting yourself.
Look in every home-screen panel
The icon may not appear on the panel you were viewing. Android launchers generally place new shortcuts in the next available position. Swipe across the other home-screen pages and check the launcher’s app area if necessary.
Update Edge and Android
Older and newer releases use different menu labels and layouts. Updating Edge from Google Play can make the current instructions match your screen, although a device manufacturer or administrator may still control which options are available.

“Add to Start Page” is not the Android home screen
If you see Add to Start Page, that refers to Edge’s own start page. It does not create an icon on the Android launcher. Use Add to phone for a shortcut outside Edge.

- Find the website icon on the Android home screen.
- Touch and hold it.
- Drag it to Remove, or choose Remove from home screen from the shortcut menu.
Removing an ordinary shortcut does not delete the website or your Edge browsing data. If Edge installed the site as a web app, Android may instead show an Uninstall option; use that only if you also want to remove the installed app.

What is the current Edge option for adding a website to Android’s home screen?
In many current Edge for Android versions, open the menu and tap Add to phone. Older versions may call the same feature Add to Home screen.

Will the shortcut open the website’s homepage?
No. It normally opens the exact webpage that was active when you created the shortcut. To link to the homepage, open the homepage before choosing Add to phone.
Why did Edge install an app instead of creating a normal shortcut?
The website may support installation as a Progressive Web App. Edge can present an app-like installation for supported sites, which may open without the standard browser controls.
Can I use “Add to Start Page” to put a link on Android’s launcher?
No. Add to Start Page saves the link to Edge’s internal start page. Use Add to phone to create an Android home-screen shortcut.

Open the target page in Edge, open the browser menu, choose Add to phone, and confirm the Android prompt. If the option is not visible, swipe the menu action row, check other home-screen panels, and consider tablet or work-device restrictions.
