To add rain, run an AssettoServer or Assetto Corsa dedicated server with a CSP WeatherFX rain weather selected, and require every driver who must see it to use a paid Custom Shaders Patch preview build. AssettoServer supports WeatherFX v1 for dynamic weather, smooth transitions and RainFX; its documentation specifies CSP 0.1.76 or newer for those features. Sol and Pure can control weather graphics, but neither supplies the RainFX implementation.
You can select the weather in Content Manager or edit cfg/server_cfg.ini directly. Rain visuals and rain physics are separate: adding DISABLE_RAIN_PHYSICS=1 to csp_extra_options.ini gives visual rain without wet-surface physics.
What supplies rain in Assetto Corsa
Rain is a client-side Custom Shaders Patch feature coordinated by the server’s WeatherFX setting. AssettoServer’s WeatherFX v1 support lets the server advertise changing weather, smooth transitions and RainFX, but the dedicated server does not install the rain renderer for drivers. Each player’s game must have a compatible CSP installation.
The important distinction is between the weather controller and the rain implementation:

- Custom Shaders Patch preview: supplies RainFX and the preview rain features. A paid preview build is required on every client that should render rain.
- WeatherFX: is the interface the server uses to select and transition between weather types.
- Sol or Pure: optional weather and graphics extensions. They can provide the visual environment and weather scripts, but they do not include RainFX.
A player without the required preview may still join, depending on the rest of the server configuration, but that player will not see the rain effect. Different CSP versions, weather scripts and graphics settings can also make two drivers see different skies, lighting or precipitation even when they join the same session.
Requirements before you change the server

You need one of these paths to select the weather and restart the server. |
Install the same track, car and required server content as for any other Assetto Corsa session. Rain configuration cannot compensate for missing content or a client that is not loading CSP.

Rain is not included with Sol or Pure. The beginner documentation for AssettoServer explicitly identifies paid Custom Shaders Patch preview versions as the source of rain. Obtain a current preview through the CSP project’s official access program and install it in each player’s Assetto Corsa installation.
- Open Content Manager and verify that Custom Shaders Patch is installed and enabled.
- Install the preview build for every driver who needs rain. A server operator’s preview installation does not install anything on remote clients.
- In Content Manager’s CSP settings, confirm that WeatherFX is enabled. If a weather extension is being used, confirm that its script is selected rather than disabled.
- Have each driver load a practice session locally and verify that the CSP WeatherFX controls are present before joining the server.
Do not treat a stable CSP installation on one computer as proof that all participants are ready. Preview access and installed versions are per-client requirements.

Choose a weather controller: default script, Sol or Pure
The server can select only weather types exposed by the WeatherFX script installed on the client. If you use a third-party weather extension, all drivers need a compatible installation of that extension as well as CSP.
Using the installed WeatherFX script
Keep the same script selected in Content Manager on every client, then choose one of its rain entries for the server weather slot. The exact display name and internal type ID are script-dependent.
Using Pure
Pure is installed manually by extracting its files into the Assetto Corsa game root. In Content Manager, select Pure Gamma or Pure LCS under CSP → WeatherFX. The choice must match the files actually installed on the client; selecting a Pure mode without a complete installation can leave WeatherFX unavailable.
Using Sol
Sol is another weather and graphics extension. It can be used as the WeatherFX controller when installed and selected correctly, but it does not add RainFX. If rain is missing, check CSP preview support before changing between Sol and Pure.

Configure rain by editing server_cfg.ini
Manual editing is the most direct method and works when Content Manager does not show the weather you need.
- Stop the server. Editing a live configuration can be overwritten when the server saves its state.
- Back up the file. Copy
cfg/server_cfg.iniso you can restore the previous weather if a typo prevents startup. - Open the weather section. Find
[WEATHER_0]. A server may have additional weather slots, but the first slot is the one normally used for the initial condition. - Change the graphics type. Set the
GRAPHICSvalue to the internal ID of a rain weather type supplied by the WeatherFX script installed by your clients. The AssettoServer beginner example uses a Heavy Rain type, but the numeric ID is not universal; do not copy an old number blindly. - Save the file without changing its encoding or section names. Keep the key in the existing
[WEATHER_0]section. - Restart the server. Weather changes in the file do not become active for a running process until it reloads the configuration.
A minimal arrangement has this shape, with the value replaced by the ID exposed by your installed script:

Content Manager avoids typing an internal ID when the installed weather script is detected correctly.

- Open the server preset in Content Manager.
- Open the Conditions tab.
- Select WeatherFX as the weather system.
- Open the weather drop-down and choose the desired rain entry, such as the script’s Heavy Rain option.
- Save the preset, stop any running instance, and restart the server.
If the rain entry is absent, the drop-down is reflecting the weather script available to that installation. Check the selected WeatherFX controller and its installation, then use the matching internal ID in server_cfg.ini if the interface still does not list the weather.

Decide whether rain physics should be active
Rain graphics and wet-track physics are independent choices. A server can show precipitation while leaving the driving model unchanged, which is useful for an atmospheric event or for testing compatibility.
Visual rain without rain physics
Add the following to csp_extra_options.ini when you want the rain effect but not rain-related physics:

DISABLE_RAIN_PHYSICS=1Save the file and restart the relevant session. This option disables the rain physics component while allowing the visual weather effect to be rendered by compatible clients.

Rain physics through preview features
Preview CSP builds expose rain-preview controls including INTENSITY, REQUIRED and WITH_PHYSICS. These settings belong to the preview feature set, and their exact placement and accepted values depend on the installed build and the server configuration format it documents. Match the server options to that build instead of copying keys from an unrelated version.

Do not promise reduced grip, standing water or any other wet-surface behavior unless the clients and server are using a preview build that supports those effects and the corresponding options are enabled. A driver on a non-preview build cannot be expected to reproduce the same physical model.

- Start with one local or trusted client using the same CSP preview and WeatherFX script that public drivers will use.
- Join the server and confirm that the selected weather appears in the session information or in the on-track weather display.
- Look for precipitation, water accumulation or other effects appropriate to the physics choice. If
DISABLE_RAIN_PHYSICS=1is present, test only the visual effect. - Repeat with a second client whose CSP installation is known to be different. This reveals whether the server is functioning while client-side output differs.
- Change the weather to a dry entry, restart, and then restore the rain entry. This confirms that the server is reading the saved weather slot rather than retaining an old process state.
Keep the test focused on one variable at a time: first CSP and WeatherFX visibility, then weather selection, then physics. Changing the weather script, preview build and server file simultaneously makes the failure difficult to isolate.
Troubleshoot missing rain

Self-hosted server versus managed hosting
On a self-hosted AssettoServer installation, you control server_cfg.ini, csp_extra_options.ini, restart timing and the versions used for testing. That makes it straightforward to change weather IDs and inspect files, but you are also responsible for backups, updates and explaining the CSP preview requirement to players.
A managed host can remove operating-system and process-maintenance work, but the rain workflow is still the same: the host must expose the weather configuration, and every driver still needs a compatible client-side CSP preview. Ask the host where its server configuration is stored, whether it permits [EXTRA_RULES] and preview rain settings, and how a restart is performed. If it offers only a simplified weather selector, use the displayed WeatherFX names and request the corresponding internal ID when a needed entry is missing.

- AssettoServer or the standard dedicated server is installed and starts normally.
- The server’s WeatherFX-compatible configuration is active.
- Clients that should see rain use CSP 0.1.76 or newer.
- Every client that should render rain has a paid CSP preview build.
- The same WeatherFX controller and compatible weather script are installed where required.
- The selected rain type exists in that script.
[WEATHER_0]contains the correctGRAPHICSvalue, or the Conditions preset contains the intended rain entry.- The server was fully restarted after configuration changes.
DISABLE_RAIN_PHYSICS=1is present only when visual-only rain is intentional.- Drivers understand that different client configurations can produce different visual output.
Bottom line
Set a rain WeatherFX type in [WEATHER_0] or in Content Manager’s Conditions tab, restart the server, and equip every participating client with a compatible paid CSP preview. Treat Sol and Pure as optional weather controllers rather than rain providers, and choose explicitly between visual rain and preview-supported rain physics.
