To add or change a dietary attribute on your restaurant’s Google Business Profile, sign in to the account that manages the profile, open the profile, choose Edit profile, select More, edit the relevant attribute, choose the response that accurately describes your restaurant, and select Save. Google may review the change before it appears publicly; its guidance says review usually takes about 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days.

This guide explains which Google editor to use, how to handle different attribute formats, what to do when an option is missing, and how to manage several restaurant locations without confusing profile attributes with menu data.

What a dietary attribute does

A dietary attribute is profile-level information about your restaurant that Google can display on Business Profile surfaces, including Google Search and Google Maps. Attributes help customers understand characteristics of a business before they decide where to eat. Google also says some attributes can help a business appear in searches for places with those characteristics.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An attribute is not a full dietary policy, ingredient statement, or guarantee about every plate. It is a structured field that Google makes available for a particular profile. The wording and choices shown in your editor are therefore important: they define what you can accurately communicate through that profile.

Attributes are separate from the food items listed on your menu. A profile attribute describes the restaurant or a broad service it provides. Menu data describes individual sections, dishes, ingredients, descriptions, and prices. Use the correct editor for the information you want customers to see.

Check these requirements before editing

Use the account that manages the profile

Sign in to the Google Account linked to the restaurant’s Business Profile. If the profile has not been verified, Google may require verification before you can change business information. If you manage profiles for an organization or agency, confirm that your account has access to the specific location you intend to edit.

Confirm the location

Restaurants with similar names, several branches, or profiles in nearby areas can be easy to confuse. Open the intended location before changing an attribute. After saving, check the same location on Search or Maps rather than assuming that a change to one profile carries over to another.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Expect different options on different profiles

Google does not promise the same dietary attributes for every restaurant. What you can edit depends on the profile’s location, country, and business category. Attribute names and available choices can also change over time. The absence of a particular dietary label in your editor does not by itself indicate that the profile is broken.

Google’s public help pages do not provide a complete list of dietary fields for every market. Inspect the options actually displayed in your own profile, and do not promise customers that a specific label will be available everywhere.

Decide whether the information belongs to the profile or the menu

Use the attribute editor when you need to communicate a restaurant-level characteristic. Use the menu editor when you need to identify a particular dish, change an ingredient or description, add a section, or update a price. Making this decision first prevents you from searching the wrong control or placing broad information in a dish description.

Step-by-step: add or update a dietary attribute

  1. Sign in. Open the Google Account that has access to the restaurant’s Business Profile. Complete any verification Google requests.
  2. Open the restaurant’s Business Profile. You can reach the profile through the Google account’s Business Profile management view. Check the name and location before editing.
  3. Choose Edit profile. This opens the profile information editor.
  4. Select More. Google places additional business attributes in this area.
  5. Locate the relevant attribute category. The categories visible to one restaurant may differ from those visible to another. Google gives categories such as Amenities and Payments as examples; the exact list depends on the profile. A dietary field may be grouped differently as Google updates its interface.
  6. Select Edit next to the attribute. Open the field for the characteristic you want to add or change. If a value is already present, review it rather than assuming it is still correct.
  7. Choose the response that is accurate now. Many attributes use a Yes or No response. Others use a set of choices. Select only an option that accurately represents the restaurant and its current operations.
  8. Select Save. Saving submits the change to Google for processing and, where applicable, review. Wait for the save confirmation before leaving the editor.
  9. Check the public profile later. Revisit the restaurant’s listing in Search or Maps to confirm how the information is displayed after Google processes it. Check the correct branch if you manage multiple locations.

What to record during the update

For internal consistency, note which location you edited, the attribute name shown by Google, the response selected, and the date saved. This is especially useful when several managers handle different branches or when a field is reviewed later. Keep the record aligned with the profile’s current operations; do not reuse an answer for another location without checking it.

Understand the response types

Yes-or-no attributes

Some fields ask whether a characteristic applies and provide Yes or No choices. Choose Yes only when the statement is true for the restaurant as represented by the profile. Choose No when it is not true. Do not infer that every dietary field uses this format, and do not choose Yes merely because one occasional item appears to fit a broad category unless the attribute’s wording and your operations support that interpretation.

Selection attributes

Some fields require one choice from a set of options. Google’s bulk-upload guidance uses Kosher food as an example and lists choices including “No kosher food,” “Some kosher food,” and “Strictly kosher food.” This example illustrates the type of field Google supports; it does not establish that these exact choices, or the Kosher food field itself, will appear for every restaurant.

Read every available choice before selecting one. A selection field is not interchangeable with a Yes/No field, and a value accepted for one attribute may not be valid for another. If the editor presents a specific set of choices, use the wording Google provides instead of typing an improvised substitute.

When the attribute you need is missing

First confirm that you are editing the correct profile and have opened Edit profile > More. If the field still does not appear, Google’s documented availability limits are the most likely explanation: the attribute may not be offered for that location, country, or business category. Names and availability may also change over time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not substitute an unrelated attribute or claim a dietary status that the available fields do not support. Use the menu editor for item-level information, and communicate other details through the customer-facing channels your restaurant already maintains rather than mislabeling a profile field.

How long changes take to appear

Google says attribute edits are commonly reviewed in about 10 minutes, but review can take as long as 30 days. The shorter estimate is not a guarantee, especially when Google needs to review the information. Until processing is complete, the public profile may continue to show the previous value or no value at all.

After saving, check the profile at a later time rather than repeatedly submitting the same change. Repeated submissions do not shorten Google’s stated review window and can make it harder to determine which value is current. If the public listing still does not reflect the saved value, reopen the editor to see whether the change remained saved and verify that you are viewing the correct restaurant profile.

Dietary attributes versus menu information

Information you want to change Use this Google feature What it contains Published timing stated by Google
A restaurant-level characteristic Business Profile attribute editor Profile attributes reached through Edit profile > More; fields may be Yes/No or selection-based Attribute review usually takes about 10 minutes, but can take up to 30 days
Dish names, descriptions, prices, or menu sections Menu editor Food and drink menu sections and individual menu items Menu changes can take 24–48 hours to display on Maps and Search

For example, changing a restaurant-level dietary characteristic belongs in the attribute editor. Changing whether a specific entrée is described as containing a particular ingredient belongs in the menu editor, provided the relevant menu controls are available on the profile.

Keep the two layers consistent. A profile-level response that suggests a characteristic while every relevant menu description says something different can confuse customers. Review the attribute and the affected menu items together whenever recipes, sourcing, or service practices change.

Update dish-level details in the menu editor

If your goal is to label individual dishes or change their ingredients, descriptions, prices, or sections, manage the menu separately from profile attributes.

  1. Open the restaurant’s Google Business Profile using the account that manages it.
  2. Open the menu-management area shown for the profile.
  3. Add or edit the appropriate menu section or item.
  4. Update the dish name, description, ingredient information, or price as applicable.
  5. Save the menu change and allow time for Google to publish it.

Google says customers can find menu items in the profile’s Menu area. It also says menu edits can take 24–48 hours to appear on Maps and Search, so a saved change may not be visible immediately.

When the menu editor is unavailable

The menu editor may not appear when menu data is supplied through the Business Profile API. In that situation, the profile’s menu information is being managed through that API-based arrangement rather than the normal editor. Confirm which system supplies the menu before trying to make a manual change.

Choosing a preferred menu source

Google says that when it finds several menu sources, owners can select a preferred source. If customers see an outdated menu, check whether the profile is using a different source from the one you edited. The current Google help guidance describes editing menu items directly from the Business Profile, but you should confirm that the menu editor is present for the restaurant before relying on that workflow.

Managing attributes for several restaurant locations

Editing each profile individually is practical when there are only a few locations and each location has different information. For larger groups, Google documents bulk-upload and API-based approaches. Choose based on the number of profiles, who has access, whether answers differ by branch, and whether menu data is already managed through an API.

Approach Best fit What Google documents Points to check
Individual profile editing A small number of locations or locations with different answers Open each profile and use Edit profile > More Confirm the correct profile and the local response before saving
Bulk-upload spreadsheet Multiple profiles that need coordinated updates Bulk uploads support Yes/No, URL, and selection attributes Make sure the attribute’s field type and allowed values match the spreadsheet requirements
Business Profile API Organizations or agencies managing eligible profiles at scale Google points to Business Profile APIs for locations managed by third-party agencies Access, eligibility, and the system supplying menu data must be confirmed

Bulk upload is not a reason to assume every dietary attribute accepts the same value format. A Yes/No field, a URL field, and a selection field have different requirements. Google’s Kosher food example demonstrates a selection field with multiple choices; use only the values supported for the specific attribute in your account.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before a coordinated update, separate locations whose answers differ. A chain may have one dietary response at one branch and a different response at another. A spreadsheet or API process should reflect those differences rather than applying one value indiscriminately. After submission, spot-check public profiles from each relevant location.

Troubleshooting common problems

The More option or attribute category is not visible

  • Confirm that you opened the restaurant’s verified or otherwise accessible Business Profile with the managing Google Account.
  • Check that you selected Edit profile before looking for More.
  • Remember that categories and attributes vary by business category, country, and location.
  • Check whether Google has changed the attribute name or category shown in the editor.
  • If a dietary field is not offered, do not create a misleading substitute in another field.

The attribute saved but is not public

  • Allow Google’s stated review window: usually about 10 minutes, with possible delays of up to 30 days.
  • Reopen the profile editor to confirm that the value remained saved.
  • Check both Google Search and Google Maps, because display can differ while information is being processed.
  • Verify that you are checking the correct location when the business has multiple profiles.
  • Confirm that the selected response still accurately describes current operations.

The option does not describe every dish

A profile attribute is not a substitute for dish-level information. If customers need to know which items contain or exclude a particular ingredient, put that information in the relevant menu item’s name or description through the menu editor, where available. Keep the profile-level attribute and menu content consistent.

Menu changes are not appearing

  • Allow the 24–48-hour period Google gives for menu changes to display on Maps and Search.
  • Check the profile’s Menu area to see which source customers are receiving.
  • If the menu editor is missing, determine whether menu data is supplied through the Business Profile API.
  • If several menu sources exist, confirm that the preferred source is the one containing your current information.

A bulk update is rejected or produces unexpected values

  • Check whether the attribute is a Yes/No, URL, or selection field.
  • Use the allowed selection values for that particular attribute rather than values copied from another field.
  • Confirm that each row corresponds to the intended location.
  • Review the resulting profiles individually after processing, especially where branches have different dietary information.

Accuracy checklist for restaurant owners

  • Use the account linked to the correct restaurant Business Profile.
  • Complete profile verification if Google requires it.
  • Edit profile-level characteristics under Edit profile > More.
  • Read the field’s available choices instead of assuming a dietary label uses Yes/No.
  • Select the response that accurately describes the restaurant at the time of editing.
  • Do not promise a dietary attribute that Google does not offer for your profile.
  • Use the menu editor for sections, dish names, descriptions, ingredients, and prices.
  • Allow up to 30 days for an attribute review and 24–48 hours for menu changes to display.
  • For multiple locations, choose individual editing, bulk upload, or an eligible API workflow based on the number of profiles and how they are managed.
  • Recheck the public listing after processing so customers see the intended information.
  • When a recipe or service practice changes, review both the profile attribute and affected menu entries.

Key distinction to remember

Use Edit profile > More for a restaurant-level dietary attribute, and use the separate menu editor for dish-level dietary details. Google controls which attributes and choices are available for each profile, so the options shown in your own Business Profile are the authoritative set for that restaurant.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add dietary options to my restaurant’s Google listing?

Sign in to the Google Account that manages the restaurant’s Business Profile. Open the profile, choose Edit profile, select More, find the relevant attribute, choose the accurate response, and select Save. Check the public profile after Google processes the update.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why can’t I find the dietary attribute I need?

Google does not offer the same attributes for every profile. Availability depends on location, country, and business category, and names can change. Confirm that you are editing the correct profile under Edit profile > More, then use only the fields and choices Google provides.

Are Google restaurant attributes always Yes or No?

No. Some attributes use Yes or No, while others use a selection list. Google’s bulk-upload guidance uses Kosher food as an example with choices including “No kosher food,” “Some kosher food,” and “Strictly kosher food.” The exact field and choices vary by profile.

How long does a dietary attribute update take to show?

Google says attribute review usually takes about 10 minutes, but it can take up to 30 days. Until processing is complete, the old value or no value may appear publicly.

Should I put dietary information in an attribute or in the menu?

Use a profile attribute for a restaurant-level characteristic. Use the menu editor for individual dish names, descriptions, ingredients, prices, and menu sections. A profile attribute does not replace item-level details.

How long do Google menu edits take to appear?

Google says menu changes can take 24–48 hours to display on Maps and Search. If the change does not appear, check which menu source the profile is using and whether a preferred source has been selected.

Why is the menu editor missing from my profile?

Google says the menu editor may be unavailable when menu data is supplied through the Business Profile API. Identify the system supplying the menu before attempting a manual edit.

How can a chain update dietary attributes across locations?

Edit profiles individually for a small number of locations or locations with different answers. For larger groups, Google documents bulk-upload spreadsheets supporting Yes/No, URL, and selection attributes, and points to Business Profile APIs for eligible organizations or third-party agencies. Confirm access, eligibility, field type, and each location’s correct response.

The Bottom Line

For a restaurant-level dietary setting, open the Business Profile and use Edit profile > More. Choose only the response Google offers that accurately describes that location, save it, and allow for review. Put dish-specific ingredients and descriptions in the separate menu editor, allow 24–48 hours for menu display changes, and use bulk or API tools only when your locations and access support them.
