To add music you already have on your computer to VirtualDJ, open the Browser, navigate to the folder containing the tracks, and open it. VirtualDJ adds files to its Search Database when a folder is focused for the first time. If your music is spread across folders or drives, use Batch Add to Search DB on each relevant location.
Make a local music folder searchable
- Open VirtualDJ’s Browser. In the Folder List, browse local sources such as Music, Videos, Desktop, or a drive or volume. Depending on what is detected on your system, the list may also show third-party library locations such as iTunes, Serato crates, Traktor, or Rekordbox. VirtualDJ User Manual: Folder List
- Open the folder containing your tracks. When a folder is focused for the first time, VirtualDJ automatically adds its files to the Search Database. VirtualDJ User Manual: Search Database
- Search your collection. Type part of an artist name or track title in the Browser’s Search field. Once tracks are in the Search Database, search is useful for finding music across multiple folders and drives. VirtualDJ User Manual: Search Database
Adding tracks to the Search Database does not copy, move, or delete the original files. It makes them discoverable in VirtualDJ; your music remains in its existing location. VirtualDJ User Manual: Search Database
Add music from several folders or drives
If your collection is dispersed, add the relevant folders or drives to the Search Database rather than opening folders one at a time:

- In the Browser’s Folder List, expand the drive or root folder that contains your music.
- Right-click a music folder or hard drive and select Batch Add to Search DB.
- Repeat for each location that contains music.
The batch operation includes subfolders, so choosing a parent location can index music in its nested folders too. It registers tracks in the Search Database; it does not gather them into a new folder or relocate them. VirtualDJ User Manual: Search Database

Search database indexing is not audio analysis
Adding files to the Search Database does not analyze them for BPM, musical key, or length. If you want those details, analyze tracks separately:
- For an individual track, right-click it and choose Analyze for BPM.
- For multiple tracks or a folder, select the items and use batch analysis. For a large collection, the manual recommends working in smaller groups, such as filtering for tracks that have not yet been scanned.

Local files, online catalogs, and USB export are different workflows

Back up before library cleanup
The Browser toolbar includes database backup and an option to remove missing files. If you are doing extensive library maintenance, consider backing up the database before removing entries or changing the collection. VirtualDJ User Manual: Database tools

VirtualDJ’s manuals describe these interface labels and workflows, but do not establish a current version number or guarantee identical screen layouts across every version and platform. If a label differs in your installation, consult the manual for your version.
