The reliable way to add Magic: The Gathering dates is to collect release and milestone dates from Wizards of the Coast, put them in an .ics or .csv file, and import that file in Google Calendar on a computer. For ongoing updates, subscribe to a publisher’s public calendar URL. Find prereleases, Friday Night Magic, and other venue-specific events in the Wizards Store and Event Locator, then add each event from its detail page or enter it with the correct local time zone.
Choose exactly what your MTG calendar should contain
“MTG release date” can mean several different milestones. Decide the scope before collecting dates; otherwise a single calendar can mix all-day product announcements with timed events at a local store and become difficult to manage.

A practical setup is to create separate Google calendars such as MTG releases, MTG digital launches, and MTG local events. Separate calendars let you assign different colors, visibility rules, and reminder settings without duplicating the schedule.

Use the products index for the broad release list
Wizards of the Coast’s products index separates ordinary Set Releases, Universes Beyond Set Releases, Special Products, and Upcoming Sets. Begin there when you need a list of announced products rather than a single event. The index currently shows examples including Reality Fracture on October 2, 2026, Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit on August 14, 2026, and Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek on November 13, 2026.

Those dates are volatile. Record the region or market displayed by the page and the date on which you checked it. Do not assume that a date shown for one region applies worldwide. Recheck the page immediately before you publish, import, or send reminders.
Open each set page for milestone dates
The index is not a substitute for the detailed set page. A page such as The Edge of Eternities can label Previews, Story, Debut, Card Previews, Prerelease, MTG Arena, Tabletop, and WPN in-store play separately. Capture each milestone as its own event when it matters to your audience. Combining all of them into one generic “release” entry hides the differences between digital launch, tabletop availability, and organized play.
- Use an all-day entry when the page gives only a calendar date.
- Use a timed entry when the page supplies a start time, and preserve the published time zone.
- Put the exact page title, region, and source-page address in the event description so a later review can identify where the date came from.
Decide whether you need a snapshot or a live calendar
One-time ICS or CSV import
An .ics or .csv import is a snapshot. It is useful when you are building a personal schedule, preparing a club calendar, or importing a carefully checked list into a chosen Google calendar. If Wizards changes a date later, the previously imported event will not automatically change. You must edit it, delete and replace it, or import an updated file.

Subscription to a public calendar URL
A public calendar feed is different: Google Calendar periodically reads the URL and can receive changes made by the calendar owner. Use this option only when a publisher actually provides a public calendar URL. The owner controls when updates appear, so continue checking the current Wizards page for important dates.
Create an ICS file with reliable event data
Use the required calendar wrapper
ICS is usually the clearest format for MTG schedules because it supports all-day events, timed events, descriptions, locations, and stable identifiers. A valid file has one calendar wrapper and one event block for each date.

END:VCALENDARThe example uses an all-day entry. The DTEND value is the following date so the event occupies October 2 without extending into October 3. Keep every line in the file, including BEGIN:VCALENDAR, VERSION:2.0, the event boundaries, and END:VCALENDAR.
Make each event traceable
- UID: Give every event a stable, unique identifier. If you regenerate the file, retain the same UID for the same event so your process can recognize which entry it is updating.
- DTSTART and DTEND: Use
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:YYYYMMDDfor a date with no published time. For a store event, use a timed start and end with the venue’s time zone. - SUMMARY: State the product or event and the milestone, such as “tabletop release,” “prerelease,” or “Arena launch.”
- DESCRIPTION: Include the official page title, region, retrieval date, format, entry notes, and the exact source URL copied from the Wizards page.
- LOCATION: Add the store name and address for a local event. Do not use a set’s headquarters or a generic city as the location.
For a timed event, verify whether the listing uses local time, daylight-saving time, or another convention. A seven-p.m. prerelease entered as UTC can appear several hours away from the store’s actual start time.

Build a repeatable naming scheme
A consistent title makes duplicate detection easier. For example, use “Reality Fracture — tabletop release,” “Reality Fracture — prerelease,” and “Reality Fracture — MTG Arena.” Put the set name first, followed by an em dash and the milestone. Use the same spelling as the official page, including punctuation in names such as Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit.
Use CSV when your dates are already in a spreadsheet
Google Calendar accepts CSV imports as well as ICS files on a computer. CSV is convenient when you are maintaining many rows in a spreadsheet, sorting by set, or assigning a calendar column before export. Keep one event per row, use a consistent date format, and ensure that any time-zone information is preserved rather than silently converted by the spreadsheet application.
CSV imports are still snapshots. Before exporting, check for duplicated rows, dates stored as text, accidental time conversion, and commas or line breaks in descriptions. If the spreadsheet contains both all-day releases and timed store events, verify each row individually after import; a single column convention can misrepresent one of those event types.

Import the file into Google Calendar on a computer
- Open Google Calendar in a computer browser.
- Open Settings.
- Select Import & export.
- Choose Select file from your computer.
- Select the
.icsor.csvfile. - Choose the destination Google calendar.
- Click Import, then inspect several events on the calendar.
Google says imported events go to the primary calendar by default unless you choose another destination during import. Selecting a dedicated MTG calendar prevents a large schedule from being mixed into personal appointments. The import workflow is documented for a computer; if you are looking at the mobile app and cannot find the file-import controls, use the desktop browser instead.
Verify the result before relying on reminders
- Open an all-day release and confirm that it occupies only the intended date.
- Open a timed local event and check the start time, end time, time zone, venue, and format.
- Open the description and confirm that the official source page, region, and retrieval date were retained.
- Check the destination calendar’s notification settings; an import does not guarantee that your preferred reminder was added.
Subscribe to a public calendar feed
If a publisher supplies a public calendar URL, subscribe instead of importing a file when you want owner-managed updates.
- Open Google Calendar on a computer.
- Next to Other calendars, click Add other calendars.
- Choose From URL.
- Paste the complete public calendar URL.
- Click Add calendar.
The subscribed calendar appears under Other calendars. This is not the same as uploading an ICS file: you do not own the feed’s source data, and refresh timing depends on the publisher. If a date is critical, open the current Wizards product or event page rather than waiting for a feed refresh.
Add prereleases, FNM, and other local events
Search the Store and Event Locator
Use Wizards’ Store and Event Locator for venue-specific information. Set your location, choose a date or date range, and inspect the event details. The locator also lets you narrow results to premium WPN stores. A set page can tell you that prerelease or WPN play is happening, but the locator identifies the store, format, local time, and entry information.
Use the event’s calendar button when it is available
Wizards documents that both Event Details and Store Details pages offer a button to add an event to your personal calendar. Use that button for a local event when it is present, then review the resulting entry in Google Calendar. Confirm the venue, start and end times, time zone, event format, and any registration or entry instructions before relying on it.

Enter a missing event manually
If no calendar button is shown, create a Google Calendar event yourself. Use the store’s local start and end time, select the correct time zone, and put the venue’s full address in Location. Add the event format, registration deadline, product or set name, and the locator or store-page URL in Description. Save the event on your local-events calendar rather than on the release calendar.
Do not treat a broad prerelease date as proof that every store runs an event at the same hour. Venue capacity, registration, and scheduling are local details and must be checked on the individual listing.

Recheck volatile dates
Release schedules can change after you have built the file. Before publishing a club calendar, sharing it with a group, or sending reminders, revisit the products index and each relevant set page. Record the check date and region in the event description so readers can tell how current an entry is.
Replace snapshots safely
When an imported date changes, update the existing event instead of creating a second entry. If you regenerate an ICS file, preserve stable UIDs and compare the new file with the old one before importing. For a small calendar, deleting the old imported calendar and importing a clean replacement can be simpler, but do not do that if it would remove unrelated personal events.
Use reminders that match the event type
- Set a modest reminder for an all-day set release if you only need to know when products become available.
- Use earlier reminders for preregistration deadlines or events with limited seating.
- Use a location-aware reminder for a store event only after confirming that the venue and time zone are correct.
- Keep digital launches and tabletop releases in separate calendars when they require different notification timing.
Troubleshoot common problems
The import button is missing
Use Google Calendar in a computer browser and open Settings → Import & export. The documented file-import workflow is not the same as adding a calendar from the mobile app.

The event appears on the wrong calendar
During import, select the intended destination instead of accepting the primary-calendar default. For an event already imported, open it and use the calendar selector to move it, or remove the imported copy and repeat the import with the correct destination.
An all-day event shows on two days
Inspect the ICS dates. An all-day event for October 2 should use DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20261002 and a following-day end date, DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20261003. A time value or an incorrect end date can make the event look longer than intended.
A store event is several hours early or late
Check the event’s time zone rather than changing the clock time by guesswork. Confirm the locator’s local time, the store’s city, daylight-saving status, and the time zone assigned in the ICS entry or Google Calendar event.
The imported calendar is out of date
An ICS or CSV file does not receive later edits. Compare the event with the current Wizards page, edit the existing entry, or create and import a corrected file. If a trusted publisher offers a public calendar URL, subscribe to that feed for owner-managed updates, while still checking important dates against the current official page.
A local event cannot be found
Broaden the locator’s date range, confirm the selected location, and check whether the store is listed as a premium WPN location. A broad set page does not guarantee that every nearby venue has published its event details yet.
A final pre-share checklist
- Every product date came from the Wizards products index or the relevant individual set page.
- Milestones such as previews, prereleases, Arena, tabletop, and WPN play are separate where useful.
- Each entry states its region and the date on which you checked it.
- All-day releases use date-only values; local events use verified start and end times.
- Store events include the exact venue, address, format, and time zone.
- Descriptions preserve the official source-page URL.
- The file was imported into the intended Google calendar on a computer.
- Notifications were reviewed after import.
- Volatile dates will be rechecked before publication, travel, registration, or reminder messages.
This workflow gives you a clean separation between the global release schedule and the local play schedule, while retaining enough source and time-zone information to correct changes instead of silently circulating stale dates.
