To add a BeamMP mod, stop the server, upload the mod’s .zip file to Resources/Client, and start the server again. Players joining afterward download client-side vehicle and map files automatically. A custom map also requires a matching Map entry in ServerConfig.toml; server-side Lua content belongs under Resources/Server instead.
What you need before installing a mod
Have administrative access to the machine or hosting account that runs the BeamMP server. You will need one of the following ways to edit its files:
- Self-hosted server: local file access, or FTP/SFTP access to the server directory.
- Hosted server: the provider’s web file manager, FTP/SFTP details, or another file-transfer method supplied with the plan.
Download the mod archive from a source you trust and read any instructions supplied by its author. The procedure below applies to the common BeamMP vehicle and map package format. Mod authors can require a different layout, particularly for non-vehicle content.
Before changing files, make a copy of ServerConfig.toml and note the current contents of Resources/Client. A backup makes it possible to return to the last working configuration if a new package prevents the server from loading correctly.

Resources/Client is for files the game client needs. Resources/Server is for code that runs only on the server, so placing a Lua plugin in the client directory will not install it correctly.
Install a vehicle or other client-side mod
- Stop BeamMP. Use the stop control in your host panel or stop the server process yourself. Do not replace files while the server is actively reading them.
- Open the client resource directory. Browse to
Resources/Clientin the BeamMP server’s root directory. - Transfer the archive. Use FTP, SFTP, or the host’s file manager to upload the mod’s
.zipfile into that directory. Keep the archive as a zip unless the author explicitly says otherwise. - Check the resulting path. The file should be directly inside
Resources/Client, not inside an extra upload folder such asResources/Client/mod-name/mod-name.zip. - Start the server. Restart BeamMP after the transfer has completed. A player who joins can then receive the client-side package as part of the connection process.
- Test with one player first. Join from a client and confirm that the vehicle appears and can be spawned before adding a large batch of additional files.
Do not rename files simply to make them look tidy. Preserve the filename supplied by the author unless that author documents a required naming convention.
Add a modded map correctly
A map has one additional requirement: BeamMP must be told which level information file to load. Uploading the archive alone does not select the map.

Find the level folder name
- Keep the map archive closed; do not extract it onto the server.
- Open the zip with an archive utility on your computer.
- Navigate to its
levelsdirectory. - Identify the single folder inside
levels. Copy that folder name exactly, including capitalization, numbers, underscores, and hyphens.
For example, if the archive contains levels/valleytrack/info.json, the level folder name is valleytrack. Do not use the zip filename unless it is identical to the folder name.
Set the map in ServerConfig.toml
- Open
ServerConfig.tomlin a plain-text editor. - Find the
Mapsetting. - Set its value to
/levels/<folder>/info.json, replacing<folder>with the exact folder discovered in the archive. - Save the file as TOML. Keep the filename
ServerConfig.toml; the olderServer.cfgformat is no longer used. - Start or restart the server and connect with a test client.
Using the example above, the value would be /levels/valleytrack/info.json. A spelling error, incorrect case, or an extra directory level can leave the map unavailable even though the zip is present in Resources/Client.
Install server-side Lua plugins and gamemodes
Server-side content is different from a vehicle or map. It runs on the BeamMP server and is not sent to players as a client download.

- Stop the server.
- Create or open the plugin’s own directory under
Resources/Server. - Copy the plugin files into that directory, preserving the structure supplied by its author.
- Confirm that the plugin directory contains its required
main.luaentry file. - Apply any plugin-specific settings described by its author.
- Restart BeamMP and inspect the server console for startup errors.
Do not put a server plugin in Resources/Client, and do not assume that a client zip can be converted into a server plugin by changing its extension or extracting it.
Should a mod be extracted?
For standard vehicle and map packages, leave the zip intact in Resources/Client. The handling of other client content is not consistent across published guides: one recommendation is to extract non-vehicle, non-map, non-texture packages, while other guidance keeps all client packages zipped. Because there is no single confirmed rule for that category, follow the mod author’s installation instructions rather than applying a blanket extraction rule.
If an author requests extraction, preserve the internal directories exactly and avoid creating an additional nesting level. If no instruction is supplied, keep the original archive, test it, and contact the author or consult the package documentation before changing its format.

The mod directory and configuration paths are the same conceptually in both setups. The difference is how you reach them and what diagnostic information the host exposes.

Troubleshoot common BeamMP mod problems
The mod does not appear
- Verify that the archive is directly in
Resources/Client, not in a nested folder. - Confirm that the transfer completed and that the server was restarted afterward.
- Check that the file is a real zip and was not renamed from another format.
- For a map, verify the
Mappath and the level folder name against the archive’slevelsdirectory. - Test with only the known-good mod installed so another package cannot obscure the result.
A map fails to load
Compare the configured value character by character with the archive. The required pattern is /levels/<folder>/info.json. The folder name must be the one inside levels, not necessarily the name of the downloaded zip. Also confirm that you edited ServerConfig.toml, rather than an old Server.cfg file that BeamMP no longer uses.
Players are stuck on the “Done” or start screen
This symptom is commonly associated with an incompatible or corrupted mod, although it is not a definitive diagnosis. Remove the newest client package and test again. If the problem remains, remove or restore mods one at a time until the failing package is isolated. Re-download that package from its author and check whether it supports the game and BeamMP versions your players are running.

The server starts but a plugin does nothing
- Make sure the plugin is under
Resources/Server, notResources/Client. - Check that its folder contains
main.luaat the location expected by the plugin. - Review the server console for Lua errors or missing files after a restart.
- Restore the previous plugin set if the server becomes unstable, then add one plugin at a time.
Only some players can join
Compare the client mod set and the server’s current files. A damaged or incompatible package can affect the connection process even when the server itself appears online. Have affected players retry after the suspected mod is removed, then add replacements individually so the result is attributable to one file.
Keep a modded server maintainable
Use a small, deliberate client set
Remove unused client packages from Resources/Client. Every unnecessary file increases what connecting players may need to receive and makes conflict diagnosis harder. Keep a separate local archive of packages you may want to restore rather than leaving every experiment active on the live server.

When adding several vehicles, maps, or plugins, install and test them individually. If five files are uploaded together and the next connection fails, you have to remove all five to find the cause. Single-change testing identifies the offending package with far less downtime.
Record map paths
Keep a simple note containing each map zip filename, its internal level folder, and the corresponding Map value. This prevents a later rename or replacement from silently pointing ServerConfig.toml at a folder that no longer exists.
Be cautious with load-order advice
Some hosting guidance suggests numeric filename prefixes such as 001_ to influence loading order. That behavior is not confirmed by official BeamMP documentation, so do not treat prefixes as a guaranteed or universal load-order mechanism. Use them only when a specific mod author or tested setup requires them, and document the reason.
A repeatable install checklist
- Server stopped before files were changed.
- Vehicle and map archives uploaded to
Resources/Client. - Standard vehicle and map zips left unextracted.
- Map level folder read from inside the zip’s
levelsdirectory. ServerConfig.tomlupdated with/levels/<folder>/info.jsonfor the selected map.- Server-side Lua content placed in its own folder under
Resources/Serverwithmain.lua. - Server restarted after every change.
- One-player test completed before opening the server to everyone.
- New or suspect files isolated when a connection or loading problem appears.
Bottom line
For the normal BeamMP workflow, stop the server, place untouched vehicle or map zips in Resources/Client, configure a map’s Map path when needed, and restart. Put Lua plugins and other server-only code under Resources/Server. When a mod fails, check the archive’s location and internal structure first, then remove recent files one at a time to identify conflicts.
