You may be able to connect a streaming stick to Ethernet with an adapter, but the right adapter depends on the exact make and model. A missing Ethernet jack does not rule out wired networking; it also does not mean a generic USB Ethernet dongle will work. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility and power requirements before buying anything.
First, identify the streaming stick
Find the exact model in the device’s settings or documentation. Compatibility is model-specific: Amazon documents adapter-based Ethernet for some Fire TV Stick models, Roku lists compatible models and adapter requirements, and Google says its Ethernet adapter is designed only for Chromecast devices. An adapter intended for one platform should not be assumed to work with another.
For example, Amazon’s specifications for the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K – 3rd Gen confirm Ethernet via an adapter. That specification does not establish a particular adapter SKU, so check the accessory listing for your model and region.

Choose an adapter that the manufacturer supports
Match the adapter to the device’s connector, compatibility requirements, and power arrangement. Google’s Chromecast Ethernet adapter setup guide states: “The Ethernet adapter is designed for use only with Chromecast devices.”
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Roku’s USB Ethernet adapter guidance gives criteria for compatible Roku models: AX8877X or SMSC95XX chipsets and 10/100 Mbps adapters. The page says 1000 Mbps adapters will not work with those listed devices. These Roku-specific details are not general requirements for Fire TV or Chromecast.
Connect the adapter and configure the network
- Check the connection path. You need a compatible adapter, an Ethernet cable, and a working router with an available Ethernet port.
- Connect the adapter. Attach it to the streaming device using the connector and arrangement specified for that model, then connect the Ethernet cable from the adapter to the router.
- Provide the required power. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for powering the stick and adapter. Google’s Chromecast setup specifies AC power; Roku’s compatible-adapter procedure describes connecting the adapter to power.
- Select the wired network if prompted. On a compatible Roku device, go to its network setup menu and choose Wired when that option appears. Follow the device’s on-screen prompts.
If the wired connection does not appear or work
- Recheck compatibility. Confirm that the adapter is supported for the exact model, rather than relying on connector fit alone.
- Reseat the connections. Check that the adapter is firmly connected to the stick, the Ethernet cable is seated at both ends, and the router port is working.
- Check power. Roku warns that a TV’s USB port may not supply enough power for some sticks. If a low-power warning appears, use a wall outlet and the supplied USB cable, as described in its streaming-stick setup guidance.
- Restart as directed. Roku advises checking adapter compatibility and connections, then restarting the device if the wired option does not appear.
What Ethernet can—and cannot—promise
A wired connection can provide an alternative to Wi-Fi, but the cited manufacturer guidance does not establish that this setup will increase your speed or reduce latency. Roku says high-resolution streaming such as 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos typically requires no more than 25 Mbps when discussing its compatible 10/100 Mbps adapters. That figure is contextual guidance, not a speed cap or a measured result for every streaming stick and network.
