In Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 or Windows 11, favorites are saved links to websites. You can add the page currently open, save every open tab, organize links into folders, import bookmarks from another browser, and synchronize them with other Edge devices.
The instructions below use Edge’s current Windows menus. Some menu labels can vary slightly by Edge version, profile, or window size.
Add the page currently open to Favorites
The quickest method is the button at the right side of Edge’s address bar.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open the webpage you want to save.
- Select Add this page to favorites in the address bar.
- Optionally change the favorite’s name or select a different folder.
- Select Done.
Edge saves the link immediately. Renaming it with a short, recognizable title can make the Favorites bar easier to scan—for example, Microsoft account is usually more useful than a long page title.

Add a favorite from the Edge menu
If you do not want to use the address-bar button:
- Select Settings and more, the three-dot button in the upper-right corner.
- Go to Favorites.
- Select More options.
- Select Add this page to favorites.
Choose a name and folder if Edge displays those options, then select Done.
Use keyboard shortcuts
These Windows shortcuts are useful when saving and finding favorites:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl+D |
Save the current tab as a favorite |
Ctrl+Shift+D |
Save all open tabs as favorites in a new folder |
Ctrl+Shift+O |
Open Favorites |
Ctrl+Shift+B |
Show or hide the Favorites bar |
Alt+Shift+B |
Move focus to the first item on the Favorites bar |
Ctrl+Shift+D is particularly useful before closing a group of research tabs. Edge puts the saved tabs in a new folder rather than creating separate, manually named entries.

The Favorites bar gives you one-click access to selected links below the address bar. Press Ctrl+Shift+B to show or hide it.
If the bar is visible but its items are not easy to reach with the mouse, press Alt+Shift+B to focus its first item. You can then use the keyboard to move through the bar and open a selected favorite.
Open every item on the Favorites bar
Opening the entire bar can restore a regular work setup, but be careful: a bar containing dozens of links can open dozens of tabs.

- Select Settings and more > Favorites.
- In the Favorites window, right-click Favorites bar.
- Select one of the available choices: Open all, Open all in new window, or Open all in new InPrivate window.
Use the InPrivate option when you want a temporary browsing session that is separate from your normal window.
Edit and organize existing favorites
To manage saved links, open the Favorites window with Ctrl+Shift+O, or use Settings and more > Favorites. From there, locate the favorite or folder you want to work with.
Edge’s exact item-menu labels are not consistent across every current version and layout, so the safest approach is to select the item’s available menu or management control and use the displayed commands to change its name, folder, address, or position. Before confirming a change, check that you are working on the correct profile and folder.
Practical organization scheme
A small number of broad folders is easier to maintain than a folder for every website. For example:
- Work — company systems and frequently used tools
- Shopping — stores and order tracking
- Finance — banks and financial services
- Reference — documentation and recurring research
Keep only the links you use often on the Favorites bar. Put less frequently used links in folders so the bar does not become a wall of truncated titles.

- Select Settings and more > Settings.
- In Profiles, select Import browser data.
- Select Import beside Import data from Google Chrome or Import data from IE11.
- Under Choose what to import, select Favorites or bookmarks.
- Select Import.
- Select Done when the process finishes.
Imported links may not appear directly inside your existing folders. Microsoft says they appear in a folder on the Favorites bar, which may be named Imported. Check there before assuming that the import failed.
Import an HTML bookmarks file
If your old browser exported an HTML bookmarks file, use Edge’s other import location:
- Open Settings and more > Settings.
- Under Profiles, select Import browser data.
- Under Other import locations, select Import beside Import browser data now.
- In Import from, select Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.
- Select Choose file.
- Select the HTML file, select Open, and wait for the import to finish.
- Select Done.
Look in the Favorites bar for the imported folder. Edge may place the imported links under a folder rather than merging them into your existing folder structure.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Sync Favorites between Edge devices
Favorites sync requires you to sign in to an Edge profile. To configure it:
- Select Settings and more > Settings.
- Go to Profiles > your profile > Sync.
- Use the toggle beside the available data types to turn synchronization on or off.
Syncing is useful when you use the same Microsoft Edge profile on more than one Windows PC or another supported device. It also means that changes are shared: Microsoft warns that deleting synced browser data removes it from all devices using that profile.
Check the Edge profile when favorites seem missing
Favorites belong to an Edge profile. Each profile has its own favorites, extensions, settings, themes, and preferences. A saved link can therefore appear to have disappeared when Edge is simply displaying another profile.

- To check another local profile, select the desired profile. Edge opens that profile in a separate window.
After switching profiles, open Favorites again with Ctrl+Shift+O. If the link is present there, the issue was the active profile rather than the favorite itself.
What happened to Collections?
Collections should not be treated as a current alternative to Favorites. Microsoft says that beginning with Edge version 145, users can no longer add new pages to Collections. Existing Collections and saved items remain accessible during the retirement transition, and Microsoft provides Move to Favorites for transferring content.
Microsoft also says Collections is no longer available beginning with Edge version 149, released June 4, 2026. Moving a Collection converts it into a folder under the root of Favorites, organized by Collection. Only saved webpage URLs move; images, notes, and other non-page items do not.
There is a documentation mismatch worth knowing about: Edge’s keyboard-shortcuts page still lists Ctrl+Shift+Y for opening Collections, while the Collections support page says the feature is unavailable in version 149 and later. Do not rely on that shortcut in those versions.
Older Reading list and tabs-set-aside data
If you are looking for data from older Edge features, open Settings and more > Favorites > Other favorites.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Reading list saves contains older Reading list data.
- Tabs set aside contains older tabs-set-aside data.
Microsoft specifically warns not to delete an empty Reading list saves folder on a synced device. Deleting it can remove Reading list data from the device where that data was imported.

Quick troubleshooting checklist
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| The saved link is not on the bar | Open Favorites with Ctrl+Shift+O; it may be in another folder. |
| Imported links are missing | Check the Favorites bar for an Imported folder. |
| Favorites differ between PCs | Confirm that both devices use the same Edge profile and that Favorites sync is enabled. |
| A favorite vanished after a change | Check the active profile and remember that synced deletions affect other synced devices. |
| The Collections shortcut does nothing | Collections may be unavailable in Edge version 149 or later; use Favorites instead. |
FAQ
How do I add a website to Favorites in Edge?
Open the website, select Add this page to favorites in the address bar, choose a name or folder if needed, and select Done. You can also press Ctrl+D.
What is the shortcut to show the Favorites bar in Edge?
Press Ctrl+Shift+B. Press the same shortcut again to hide the bar.

Where did my imported Edge favorites go?
Imported favorites usually appear in a folder on the Favorites bar, often named Imported. They may not be merged into your existing folders.
Why are my Edge favorites missing?
Check the active Edge profile first. Favorites are separate for each profile. Also check the Favorites window and its folders instead of looking only at the Favorites bar.
Does deleting a synced favorite delete it everywhere?
Changes to synced data can affect every device using the same Edge profile. Microsoft specifically warns that deleting synced browser data removes it from all synced devices.
Can I still add new pages to Collections in Edge?
Not in Edge version 145 or later, according to Microsoft’s current documentation. Existing Collection webpage URLs can be moved to Favorites, but images, notes, and other non-page items are excluded.
The Bottom Line
For a single page, use the address-bar favorite button or Ctrl+D. For a group of tabs, use Ctrl+Shift+D. Manage the complete library with Ctrl+Shift+O, keep the Favorites bar limited to frequently used links, and check the active Edge profile whenever saved links appear to be missing. If you use more than one device, enable Favorites sync—but remember that deletions and other changes can propagate to all synced devices.
