Use Samsung’s NavStar module inside Good Lock. Install Good Lock from Galaxy Store, add NavStar from the app’s Make up section, turn NavStar on, create a configuration, choose Button layout → Add button, select up to two extra actions, save the layout, and activate it. The exact choices and labels can differ by Galaxy model, device language, software release, and module version.
Which Good Lock module adds buttons?
For extra controls on the on-screen navigation bar, the correct module is NavStar. NavStar changes navigation-bar layouts, icons and feature buttons. Samsung’s own walkthrough uses taking a screenshot and moving to the next track as examples of actions that can be assigned, although the action list is not guaranteed to be identical on every phone or software version.
Good Lock is Samsung’s suite of customization applications for Galaxy devices. Good Lock itself is the launcher and module manager; NavStar supplies the navigation-bar controls. Installing Good Lock alone does not add a button. You must install and enable NavStar, then activate a saved NavStar configuration.

Before you start
- Use a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet that offers Good Lock and NavStar in Galaxy Store. Samsung says feature availability and settings vary by model and software version, so a module shown on one Galaxy may be absent on another.
- Have an internet connection available for Galaxy Store downloads and updates.
- Use the on-screen navigation bar. NavStar’s button-layout workflow applies to navigation-bar controls; a device configured for gesture navigation may show different options or require you to switch navigation behavior before a bar layout is useful.
- Know that Samsung’s tutorial permits up to two extra buttons in the configuration. This is a product limit in that walkthrough, not a guarantee that every NavStar release exposes the same choices.
Samsung’s labels can change with the phone’s language, One UI release and NavStar version. If a label is worded slightly differently, look for the same functions: installing NavStar, enabling it, creating a configuration, adding buttons, saving it and selecting that saved layout.
Install Good Lock from Galaxy Store
- Open Galaxy Store on your Galaxy device.
- Search for Good Lock and install Samsung’s app.
- Open Good Lock and complete its initial setup. Good Lock can download or update additional applications from inside the app, so keep it installed even after NavStar is added.
If Good Lock does not appear in Galaxy Store, do not assume that a downloaded copy from an unrelated site will provide the same supported experience. Samsung’s official workflow starts with Galaxy Store, and availability is region-, model- and software-dependent. Check Galaxy Store again after installing system updates, or consult Samsung support for your specific device rather than installing an unverified package.
Install and enable NavStar
- Open Good Lock.
- Go to the Make up section.
- Find NavStar and tap its install option.
- Open NavStar after installation, tap Start, and allow the access requested by the module.
- Turn the NavStar switch on.
NavStar must be switched on before its saved navigation-bar design can be used. If you install the module but leave it disabled, your phone continues using its existing navigation-bar arrangement.
Add the custom buttons
- In NavStar, tap New Configuration.
- Open Button layout.
- Tap Add button.
- Choose the action or actions you want. Samsung’s example actions include screenshot capture and skip to the next track. The available list can differ by device and software version.
- Select no more than two extra buttons in the configuration, then tap Done.
- Tap Save to store the layout.
- Select the configuration you just saved. This activates that navigation-bar layout.
The final selection matters: saving creates the design, while selecting it applies the design. If you leave another layout selected, the new buttons will not appear even though the configuration is stored.
What the finished layout changes
The added controls appear as part of the on-screen navigation bar. They are not Quick Settings tiles, notification-shade controls or permanent hardware keys. Their position and surrounding icons depend on the navigation-bar arrangement that NavStar exposes on your Galaxy.
For example, a screenshot button can provide a direct navigation-bar shortcut instead of asking you to use the phone’s usual button combination. A next-track button can be convenient when media controls are not immediately visible. These are Samsung’s examples, not a promise that every Galaxy model displays those exact actions. If an action is missing from your list, your NavStar version or device configuration may not support it.

NavStar also includes navigation-related layout and icon controls, and Samsung describes gesture-mode options in its Good Lock materials. Those options are separate from the Add button step. Change only the navigation behavior you intend to change, then save and select the resulting configuration.
If you use gesture navigation
Button layouts are most apparent when the phone displays an on-screen navigation bar. Gesture navigation presents a different control surface, so NavStar may show gesture-specific settings rather than the same row of buttons. If your objective is a visible extra button, review the phone’s navigation setting and NavStar’s available mode options first.
Do not infer that every Samsung Galaxy has identical navigation choices. Samsung explicitly cautions that features and settings vary by phone model and software version. A menu that appears in a Samsung tutorial may therefore be named differently, moved, or unavailable on your device.
Troubleshooting by symptom
Good Lock is missing from Galaxy Store
Good Lock availability is not universal across all Galaxy models, regions or software releases. Confirm that you are searching in Galaxy Store on the Galaxy device itself and that the phone is updated. If the app still does not appear, your model or software may not support it; Samsung’s support information is the appropriate source for confirmation.
NavStar is not listed under Make up
NavStar is installed as a Good Lock module, not as a setting built into every Galaxy phone. Make sure Good Lock has finished loading its module list and that you are viewing Make up, then check Galaxy Store for available Good Lock updates. If NavStar remains absent, compatibility can be the reason because Samsung varies module availability by model and software version.

I cannot find the action I want
Samsung’s screenshot and next-track controls are examples, not an exhaustive cross-device list. Review the actions currently offered by your NavStar version. If the desired function is not listed, do not substitute a different Good Lock module: QuickStar controls the status bar and Quick panel, while Keys Cafe changes keyboard keys.
The labels do not match the tutorial
Device language, One UI software, NavStar version and model can change the wording or location of controls. Look for the functional sequence rather than an exact visual match: enable NavStar, create a new configuration, open the button-layout editor, add buttons, finish, save and select.
The navigation bar looks unchanged after an update
Reopen NavStar and check whether the module is still enabled and whether your saved layout is still selected. Module updates can change available settings, and Samsung’s documentation does not promise identical behavior across software releases. If a previously available control has disappeared, treat that as a version or compatibility difference rather than repeatedly adding the same button.
NavStar, QuickStar and Keys Cafe: choosing the right tool
The three modules can all look like “button customization,” but they operate in different parts of the interface. Use the location of the control as your decision rule.
| Question | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want a control beside Back, Home or Recents on the screen? | NavStar | It edits the on-screen navigation bar and supports extra feature buttons. |
| Do you want to change the tiles or appearance when you pull down Quick Settings? | QuickStar | It customizes the status bar and Quick panel, including the button grid and theme. |
| Do you want a new key or a different key arrangement while typing? | Keys Cafe | It customizes the Samsung keyboard rather than system navigation. |
Installing the wrong module will not expose the navigation-bar editor. Start with the screen location, then install only the module responsible for that area.
Managing or undoing a configuration
NavStar lets you create and save a configuration, then choose which saved navigation bar is active. To stop using the custom arrangement, open NavStar and select another available navigation-bar configuration or turn NavStar off. The exact control names can vary by release, so use the enabled switch and configuration selector shown on your device.

Before changing an established layout, note which configuration is selected. That makes it easier to return to the previous arrangement if an added control is inconvenient or an updated module changes the appearance.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Privacy and permissions during setup
NavStar may request access when you tap Start. Grant the requested access only through the Good Lock/NavStar setup screen on your Galaxy device. The official sequence expects this permission step; without it, the module may not be able to apply its navigation-bar customization.
Because labels and permission screens differ by software version, read the system prompt before accepting it. If you decline and NavStar cannot start, reopen the module and use its start or enable controls to review the request again.

Choose actions you use repeatedly
With a limit of up to two extra buttons in Samsung’s walkthrough, reserve the available spaces for actions that otherwise require several taps or a less convenient gesture. Screenshot capture and next-track control are Samsung’s examples; your own list should be based on the actions actually offered on your phone.
Keep the navigation bar readable
Adding controls changes the visual balance of the navigation bar. If icons become difficult to distinguish or you trigger an action accidentally, edit the saved configuration and remove one of the extra buttons, then save and reselect the layout.
Account for orientation and app context
The navigation bar is a system-level surface, so the extra control can remain available while you move between apps. The action itself may still depend on context: a media command is useful when compatible playback is active, while a screenshot action captures the current screen. NavStar does not turn every action into a universal replacement for an app’s own controls.

Limits you should expect
- Samsung’s documented workflow supports up to two extra buttons in a configuration.
- The exact action list is not identical on every Galaxy model or software release.
- Good Lock and NavStar availability can vary by model, region and software version.
- NavStar is for the navigation bar; QuickStar and Keys Cafe handle different interface areas.
- Menu labels may differ with device language and module version.
These limits explain why a screenshot of another Galaxy’s NavStar screen may not match your own. Use the current controls offered on your device as the authoritative set.
Quick checklist
- Open Galaxy Store and install Good Lock.
- In Good Lock, open Make up and install NavStar.
- Open NavStar, tap Start, allow the requested access and switch NavStar on.
- Tap New Configuration → Button layout → Add button.
- Select up to two available actions and tap Done.
- Tap Save, then select the saved configuration to activate it.
- If nothing changes, verify that NavStar is enabled and that the saved layout is selected.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add more than two navigation-bar buttons?
Samsung’s documented NavStar workflow allows up to two extra buttons. Treat that as the supported limit for the setup described here; do not assume a later module version or another Galaxy model offers more.
Do I need a separate accessory or replacement part?
No. The official workflow uses Good Lock and the NavStar module installed through Galaxy Store on a compatible Galaxy device. It changes the on-screen interface rather than adding physical hardware.
Is QuickStar an alternative to NavStar?
No. QuickStar customizes the status bar and Quick panel. NavStar is the module Samsung identifies for navigation-bar layouts and extra navigation buttons.
Why does Samsung’s tutorial show an option that my phone lacks?
Samsung states that features and settings vary by phone model and software version. The tutorial’s screenshot and next-track actions are examples, so your NavStar release may present a different selection.
