RedM admin access uses the ACE permission system inherited from FiveM. Grant permissions to a group with add_ace, place each administrator’s identifier in that group with add_principal, load the lines from server.cfg (or a file it executes), restart, and test in game.
How RedM admin permissions work
RedM does not make a player an administrator merely because their name appears in a configuration file. ACE separates permission assignment into two parts:

The conventional full-administrator group is group.admin. A player receives its permissions only when their identifier is assigned to that group. The identifier must include its complete prefix, such as identifier.license:; a display name is not a substitute.
The examples below use the commonly deployed ACE syntax. Artifact versions and resources can define their own command names, so test every permission on the RedM build and resource versions you actually run.

Choose a management method

You can use both methods, but document which system controls each role. A txAdmin panel administrator, an ACE administrator, and a framework administrator may be separate permissions.
Find the administrator’s identifier
Use an identifier rather than a player name. Names can change, while the identifier is the value ACE matches.
Use txAdmin’s player page
Open the txAdmin panel, go to the player list, select the player, and copy the identifier shown for that account. txAdmin displays the identifiers associated with the player, allowing you to choose the one your server uses.
Read the server’s identifier output
When the player connects, the server console or connection log can show their identifiers. Copy the complete value, including the type prefix. Do not add spaces after the colon or omit the identifier. portion required by the ACE line.

License identifiers are usually the least dependent on a player’s other accounts. If you use another type, make sure every administrator will consistently present that account when connecting.
Set up ACE manually in a permissions file
A separate file keeps access rules easier to audit than a long mixed-purpose configuration. Create a plain-text file such as permissions.cfg in the directory used by your server configuration.

1. Grant the administrator group its commands
This broad rule allows every command ACE to the group. The second line explicitly blocks the shutdown command, which prevents an administrator with this group from using quit accidentally or maliciously.
add_ace group.admin command allow
add_ace group.admin command.quit denyBecause the first line is intentionally broad, give group.admin only to people who should have server-wide control. For a smaller staff role, use a custom group instead of this rule.
2. Add one administrator
Replace the placeholder with the real identifier, preserving the prefix and punctuation.
add_principal identifier.license:XXXXXXXX group.adminFor example, the shape is add_principal identifier.license:abc123... group.admin; do not copy the example value itself. A mistyped identifier generally grants no access and may not produce an obvious error.

3. Add additional administrators
Give each person a separate line. This makes removal or review straightforward.
add_principal identifier.license:FIRST_ADMIN_LICENSE group.admin
add_principal identifier.license:SECOND_ADMIN_LICENSE group.adminDo not put multiple identifiers on one line or replace an identifier with a display name.

4. Load the file from server.cfg
Add an exec line to the server’s main configuration. If the files are in the same configuration directory, the entry can be:
exec permissions.cfgIf the file is elsewhere, use the path format supported by your server installation. Keep the permissions file in a location the service account can read, and back it up with the rest of the server configuration.

Create limited moderator groups
Not every staff member needs unrestricted command access. ACE can grant individual command permissions to a narrower group.
Example: a moderator who can kick
add_ace group.moderator command.kick allow
add_principal identifier.license:MODERATOR_LICENSE group.moderatorAdd another add_ace line for each command the role genuinely needs. Command names are resource-specific; use the command name registered by the resource rather than guessing.
Understand group nesting
ACE principals can be nested. When one group is made a principal of another, the inner group inherits the outer group’s permissions. For example:
add_principal group.senior_moderator group.moderatorMembers of group.senior_moderator then inherit the permissions assigned to group.moderator. Be deliberate about the direction: placing a moderator group under group.admin gives it the administrator group’s permissions, which may be much broader than intended.

Grant permissions required by resources
ACE command access does not automatically authorize every script. A resource can check its own ACE object or require access to management commands. If an administrator receives “Access denied” while using a resource, inspect that resource’s permission instructions.
Resource and management command example
A resource-management tool may require entries shaped like these:
add_ace group.admin resource.myresource allow
add_ace group.admin command.sets allow
add_ace group.admin command.add_principal allow
add_ace group.admin command.add_ace allowReplace myresource with the actual resource name. The last three permissions can change principals and ACE rules, so grant them only to trusted operators. If a resource uses a different ACE object or command name, its documentation takes precedence over this generic pattern.

- Save the files. Confirm that
server.cfgcontains theexec permissions.cfgline and that the permissions file contains the intended rules. - Restart the server. Configuration lines entered only into a live console are not persistent; they disappear when the server restarts. A full restart is the safest way to ensure the file is loaded in the intended order.
- Connect using the account you assigned. Test from the same account whose identifier appears in the file.
- Run a harmless administrator command. Confirm that the expected command works and that a command you intentionally denied, such as
quit, remains blocked. - Check the console for access errors. If a resource reports “Access denied,” identify the exact command or ACE object it checks and add the corresponding permission to the correct group.
Test with a second account that is not an administrator. This catches an accidentally broad principal or a permission line assigned to the wrong group.
Manage administrators through txAdmin
If txAdmin is installed, its web panel can manage server administrators without manually editing server.cfg. The commonly used panel address is http://your-server-ip:40120; use the host and port configured on your server if they differ.
- Open the txAdmin address and sign in with an account that already has permission to manage administrators.
- Open the panel’s player or administrator management area.
- Select the player and review the identifiers shown on the player page.
- Use the role or permission control provided by your txAdmin version to grant the required administrator level.
- Save the change, reconnect the player, and test the in-game command or resource.
txAdmin’s labels and role controls can vary by release and recipe. Treat the panel role as a separate control plane until your test proves that it also provides the ACE or resource permissions your staff need. A person may be able to administer the panel while still receiving an in-game access error, or may have in-game ACE access without permission to change txAdmin settings.

Framework permissions are separate from ACE
Many RedM servers run a framework with its own user and group system. Adding a player to group.admin changes ACE authorization; it does not necessarily change a framework’s database role.

If a framework command still fails after ACE is correct, look for the framework’s user record, job, group, or resource-specific permission check. Conversely, changing a framework role may not authorize generic server commands that are protected by ACE.
Troubleshoot common failures
“Access denied” for a command
- Confirm that the player is assigned to the group you edited.
- Check the exact command name. A resource may register a command different from the one you expect.
- Add the command’s
add_aceline to the group, then restart or reload the affected resource as required. - If the command belongs to a script, check whether the script requires a resource ACE in addition to a command ACE.
The administrator line has no effect
- Compare the copied identifier character by character, including
identifier.license:or another type prefix. - Make sure the line is in a file that
server.cfgactually loads. - Restart the server after saving. A line typed at the console is not a durable configuration change.
- Check that the player connected with the same account represented by the identifier you assigned.
It worked until the next reboot
The rule was probably entered only in the live console or in a file that is not executed during startup. Put it in server.cfg or an included permissions file and restart once to verify that it survives.
txAdmin access works but an in-game command does not
Panel administration and in-game authorization can be independent. Verify the player’s ACE principal, the command’s ACE entry, and any framework or resource-specific role instead of assuming that a txAdmin role supplies all three.
A resource-management action is blocked
Check for the resource’s ACE object and the management commands it uses, such as command.sets, command.add_principal, or command.add_ace. Grant these only to the group that should be able to change server permissions.

- The administrator’s identifier was copied from txAdmin or the connection output.
- The identifier includes the correct
identifier.<type>:prefix and has no spaces. - The intended group has an
add_acerule for each required command. - The player has an
add_principalline assigning them to that group. - Any required resource ACE entries are present.
server.cfgloads the permissions file withexec.- The server or affected resource was restarted after the edit.
- The command was tested in game with both an administrator and a non-administrator account.
- Framework-specific roles were configured separately where VORP, RSG, or another framework performs its own permission checks.
