To connect a Samsung washer to Wi-Fi, first confirm that your exact model supports Wi-Fi and SmartThings. Then add it in the SmartThings app using the Samsung account and the on-screen pairing instructions for that washer. Samsung’s US setup guide says a Samsung account is needed. Check whether your washer supports Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi and SmartThings support depend on the washer model. Look for a Smart Control or Smart Monitor control, or a Wi-Fi symbol, and verify the model in its manual. A Smart Care button alone is not evidence that the washer connects to Wi-Fi: Smart Care is a diagnostic feature, distinct from SmartThings connectivity. Samsung recommends checking the manual and supported devices in the SmartThings app. Samsung’s Smart Care guidance Samsung washer support and manuals

To find your model’s documentation, use Samsung’s washer support page to search by model code. Follow that manual for the washer’s exact controls and network requirements; button sequences and menus can differ between models and software versions.

Connect the washer in SmartThings

  1. Install the app and sign in. Install SmartThings on your phone or tablet, then sign in to a Samsung account or create one. Samsung’s US guide states, “A Samsung account is needed.” Samsung SmartThings washer setup
  2. Start adding a device. In SmartThings, open Devices, tap Add, then choose Add device. Select the Samsung device option and follow the app’s prompts to find the washer.
  3. Try another discovery method if needed. Samsung also lists search, QR-code scanning, and nearby-device scanning as ways to find a device in the app.
  4. Use the model-specific pairing controls. Follow the instructions displayed in SmartThings and the washer’s manual. Do not assume another Samsung washer’s button sequence applies to yours.
  5. Check the connected device. Once added, open the washer’s device card to see the controls and notifications available for your model. Compatible connected washers can provide cycle-completion and error notifications; available features vary.

Fix common pairing problems

Recheck passwords and account access

Confirm that you are signed into the Samsung account you intend to use, and carefully re-enter the home Wi-Fi password when prompted. Samsung identifies an incorrect home-network password as a common setup problem. If the washer was previously registered to someone else, you may need the current owner to transfer control or invite you. Samsung SmartThings connection troubleshooting

Check the Wi-Fi signal where the washer is located

A weak signal can prevent a washer from connecting. First check whether Wi-Fi is reliable near the appliance and, if practical, try moving the router closer. Samsung also suggests a repeater to improve signal strength when needed. An extender is a conditional option for a weak-signal problem, not a standard requirement for setup. Use the washer manual for network requirements

Network requirements vary by device, so consult the manual for your exact model rather than applying a rule from another washer or procedure. Samsung’s software-update instructions specify 2.4 GHz for the washer update process described on that page; that instruction is specific to the listed update process and should not be treated as a universal Wi-Fi requirement for all Samsung washers. Account for app and software differences

SmartThings menus can vary with app and software versions. If the labels differ from the steps above, follow the current in-app prompts and your washer’s manual. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide covers connection issues and notes that menus may differ. Samsung connection troubleshooting
