How to Add a Trader to Your DayZ Standalone Server

To add a trader to a DayZ Standalone server, stop the server, choose one trader framework, install its exact mod and dependencies, copy the supplied profile, key, mission, or configuration files to the paths required by that framework, set the correct launch parameters, and restart. Then configure a trader zone, inventory, prices, stock, and buy/sell permissions. Back up your profile and mission files before changing anything.

Choose the trader system before you edit the server

DayZ traders are not a built-in server feature that you enable with one setting. They are supplied by separate mods, and each mod expects a different file layout and economy model. Mixing layouts from different systems is a common reason for missing traders, startup errors, or an economy that appears empty.

Pick one route and follow the documentation for that release. Do not install two trader frameworks simply because both appear in a Workshop search; their objects, configuration names and dependencies are independent.

Prepare the server and make a recovery copy

Use the same preparation sequence whether the server is rented from a control panel or runs on your own machine.

1. Stop the DayZ server completely. Never copy a mod, replace a mission file or edit JSON while the process is still writing its profile.
2. Back up the active profile and mission. Preserve the complete profiles directory and the active mission folder, including any existing economy files. Give the backup a dated name so you can restore the pre-trader state.
3. Record the active map and mission folder. Examples include mpmissions/empty.chernarus/; Livonia, Sakhal and custom maps use different mission names and may require different trader positions or economy files.
4. Check the mod’s current Workshop description and dependency list. The folder name, required libraries, load order and configuration format can change between releases.
5. Decide how clients will receive the mod. A client-required mod belongs in the -mod= list and must be installed by every player. A server-only component belongs in -servermod=. Using the wrong parameter can leave clients unable to join or can expose a server-side component they do not need.

Route A: install a generic Trader mod

A managed-hosting installation guide describes a profile-based workflow for the generic Trader release whose package folder is @1590841260. Treat that folder name as an example tied to that package, not a universal name; confirm the folder supplied by the current Workshop item.

Install through a game panel

1. Open the host’s game panel and stop the DayZ instance if it is not already stopped.
2. Open the panel’s Steam Workshop or mod installer, search for the intended Trader mod, and install it on the server.
3. Open the installed @1590841260 directory (or the exact directory created by the current package).
4. Copy the supplied Trader Profile folder into the server’s profiles directory. Keep the folder name and its internal structure unchanged.
5. Check the launch-parameter editor for the mod’s required client and server entries. Use the load order and dependencies documented by that release rather than guessing an order.
6. Start the server and inspect the startup log for missing dependencies, key errors and JSON parsing failures.

Install with FTP or a file manager

1. Stop the server and connect to its files with FTP or the provider’s file manager.
2. Open the installed Trader package, such as @1590841260.
3. Copy Trader Profile into the server’s profiles directory. Upload the folder itself, not only selected files inside it.
4. Verify that the active profile path is the one used by the server command line. A correctly uploaded folder in an unused profile directory has no effect.
5. Apply the documented mod parameters and restart the server.

This generic procedure does not establish a universal dependency list, map setup or configuration schema. If the trader does not appear, use the current Workshop description and the provider’s installation notes to confirm the release-specific requirements before changing unrelated files.

Route B: install TraderPlus

TraderPlus uses three distinct locations: the server-root mod directory, the server signing-key directory and the active mission folder. Missing any one of them can prevent the mod from loading or leave its economy unconfigured.

Copy the mod and signing key

1. Place the complete @TraderPlus directory in the DayZ server root, alongside the other server mod directories.
2. Open @TraderPlus/Keys/ and copy the supplied .bikey file into the server’s keys/ directory. Do not rename the key.
3. Open the mod’s Centralconomy directory and copy TraderPlus_ce into the active mission folder. For a Chernarus mission this may be mpmissions/empty.chernarus/; use the exact mission that appears in your startup command.
4. Compare the mod’s documented launch parameters with your existing command line. Add dependencies in the required order and decide whether each component belongs in -mod= or -servermod=.
5. Start the server and read the RPT log before connecting as an administrator.

Account for map differences

TraderPlus defaults are configured for Chernarus. If the server runs another map, review TraderPlusGeneralConfig.json and adjust the map-specific settings and mission placement described by the current release. A Chernarus configuration copied unchanged to another map can load without placing a usable trader or can point to an invalid mission path.

Migrate an older Trader configuration

TraderPlus documents a conversion route for an older Trader configuration. Treat it as a migration, and make a separate backup before starting.

1. Temporarily load both packages in the documented order: @Trader;@TraderPlus;.
2. Open TraderPlusGeneralConfig.json and set ConvertTraderConfigToTraderPlus to 1.
3. Start the server once so TraderPlus can generate or update its configuration files.
4. Stop the server, inspect the generated files, and compare the trader locations, item entries and prices with the original configuration.
5. After confirming the conversion, remove the legacy package if the current TraderPlus release says it is no longer needed, then set the conversion option back according to that release’s instructions.

Do not assume a conversion from an older release is lossless. Verify the generated files and the current mod notes before opening the server to players.

Route C: install and configure DayZ Expansion Market

Expansion Market describes itself as a “player driven and stock based market system.” The host controls the market’s prices, stock, items and other behavior through separate configuration layers. The main concepts are market categories, trader definitions, currencies, static stock and trader zones.

Install the Expansion components

1. Install the required Expansion packages on the server and on clients when the component is client-required. Keep the exact dependency and load order from the current Expansion release.
2. Start the server once, if the documentation requires it, so the profile and configuration directories are created. Stop it before editing generated files.
3. Locate the server profile or configuration root. The documented locations use DayZServerServerProfileExpansionModMarket or the equivalent configExpansionModMarket path.
4. Locate the trader definitions under ExpansionModTraders. Keep Market and Traders in the same active profile/configuration tree.
5. Configure or place the trader zone for the active map. A category entry alone does not put a trader object in the world.

Add an item in the two required layers

Expansion’s item workflow has two layers. First, add the class name and its price and stock settings to a category JSON in the Market directory. Second, expose that category or an explicit item in a trader JSON under ExpansionModTraders. An item present in only one layer may not be offered.

A category entry can contain fields such as:

• MaxPriceThreshold and MinPriceThreshold for the permitted price range.
• SellPricePercent for the relationship between the player’s sale price and the configured buy price.
• MaxStockThreshold and MinStockThreshold for stock limits.
• QuantityPercent for quantity-based items.
• SpawnAttachments to control whether supported attachments are spawned with an item.
• Variants for alternate class-name or appearance variants supported by the item.

For static stock, set the maximum and minimum stock thresholds to the same value, as documented by Expansion. Dynamic stock requires a range so the market can move between the two limits.

Set buy and sell permissions

In the trader JSON, the documented numeric item values are:

The manual Items mapping overrides the automatic Categories mapping. Use an explicit item entry when one class needs a different permission from the rest of its category.

The exact surrounding keys and formatting depend on the Expansion release, so merge entries into the generated files rather than replacing the entire file with a generic example. The following shows the relationship between a category and a trader entry:

These class names and values are placeholders for illustrating the structure, not entries to paste into a live economy. Replace them with class names from the installed item mod and preserve the syntax of the file generated by your Expansion version.

Adding modded items safely

A modded item requires more than a display name. The trader must reference the item’s actual class name, and the server must load the item mod before the trader reads the configuration.

1. Install the item mod on the server and, when required, on every client.
2. Confirm the exact class name from the item mod’s documentation or configuration. Do not infer it from the in-game display name.
3. Place the trader dependency after the item mod in the documented load order.
4. Add the class to the correct TraderPlus, generic Trader or Expansion file. For Expansion, complete both the Market category layer and the Traders exposure layer.
5. Choose the buy/sell permission deliberately. Use 0, 1, 2 or 3 only where the Expansion schema expects those values.
6. Set price and stock thresholds appropriate to the item’s quantity behavior. Ammunition, liquids and stackable resources may need a quantity percentage rather than the same values used for a single weapon.
7. Restart and test the item with an administrator account before announcing it to players.

Launch parameters, mission files and economy registration

DayZ server configuration is mission-folder based. A custom economy XML file is not loaded merely because it was dropped into a db/ directory. The file must be registered through cfgeconomycore.xml according to the server reference and the selected mod’s instructions.

Keep these distinctions clear:

• -mod= identifies content that clients must also have installed. A mismatch between the server’s list and a player’s list can block connection or produce missing-content errors.
• -servermod= identifies server-side content that clients do not load. Placing a client-required trader component here can make the trader invisible to players.
• The mission folder in the command line determines where mission-specific files are read. Copying a configuration into mpmissions/empty.chernarus/ while the server is running a different mission has no effect.
• Signing keys belong in the server’s keys/ directory. A missing or incorrect key can stop a mod from loading even when the mod directory is present.

Place the trader zone or object

Configuration makes items and prices available; it does not automatically create a usable location on every map. Confirm that the selected framework’s trader object or zone is placed for the active map and that its coordinates, orientation and interaction settings are valid.

• Use the map-specific placement files supplied by the framework rather than coordinates copied from another map.
• Check that the zone is not inside a restricted area, underground location or inaccessible building.
• After a restart, approach the location with an account that has permission to trade and verify that the interaction prompt appears.
• If the trader is visible but empty, inspect the Market/category and Traders files before moving the zone; an empty inventory is usually a configuration-layer problem rather than a coordinate problem.

Validate the installation after the first restart

Use a controlled test instead of opening the server immediately to the whole community.

1. Read the server RPT log from the beginning of the restart. Look for missing dependencies, key validation errors, malformed JSON or XML, an invalid mission path and class-name warnings.
2. Confirm that the trader framework and every required dependency appear in the loaded-mod list.
3. Travel to the configured zone and test the interaction prompt.
4. Test one buy-only item, one sell-only item and one buy-and-sell item. In Expansion, verify that the permission behavior matches values 0, 2 and 1.
5. Buy an item, reconnect, and check whether the stock changed as expected. If maximum and minimum thresholds are equal, confirm that the configured static stock behavior is intentional.
6. Test a modded item only after the base trader works. This isolates item-mod load-order problems from trader-framework problems.
7. Save the working configuration as a new backup before making economic balance changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

The server stops during startup

• Inspect the RPT log for the first error, not only the final shutdown message.
• Validate every JSON and XML file with a syntax-aware editor. A missing comma, quote or closing brace can prevent the entire configuration from loading.
• Check that the mission folder in the command line matches the folder where you copied the files.
• Confirm that every required dependency is installed and loaded in the documented order.
• Temporarily restore the backup, then reapply one change at a time to identify the offending file.

The trader does not appear in game

• Confirm the trader zone or object is configured for the current map and mission.
• Check that the relevant client-required mod is in -mod=, not only in -servermod=.
• Verify that the signing key is in the server keys/ directory and that clients have the matching mod version.
• Check the profile/configuration path and make sure the server is not using a different profile from the one you edited.

The trader appears but has no items

• For Expansion, inspect both the Market category JSON and the Traders JSON. The item must be defined in the category and exposed to the trader.
• Check spelling and capitalization of every class name against the installed mod version.
• Ensure the category is assigned to the trader or that an explicit item mapping exists.
• For TraderPlus or a generic Trader system, confirm that the supplied profile or mission files were copied as complete folders, not partially merged into an unrelated directory.

Players can see an item but cannot buy or sell it

• Review the explicit item permission. In Expansion, 0 is buy-only, 2 is sell-only and 1 permits both.
• Check that an explicit Items entry has not overridden the category’s automatic mapping.
• Verify that stock thresholds are not already at zero and that the price fields are valid for the item type.

A modded item causes errors

• Confirm that the item mod is installed on the server and on clients when required.
• Move the item mod ahead of the trader framework in the documented load order.
• Replace the display name with the exact class name and remove entries for classes removed in the current item-mod release.
• Restart with the item entry disabled to confirm that the trader itself still loads, then add the corrected entry back.

Operational practices after launch

• Keep a dated backup before every economy edit, not only before the initial installation.
• Change one category, price or stock rule at a time and record what changed.
• Use a non-production administrator or test account to verify buy, sell and stock behavior.
• Review RPT logs after mod updates because a formerly valid class name, key or configuration field may change.
• Keep client and server mod versions synchronized whenever the framework requires client installation.
• Document the active map, mission folder, profile path, launch parameters and installed trader release so another administrator can reproduce the setup.

Which route should you use?

Choose the generic Trader route when your provider supplies a supported profile workflow and you need a straightforward installation with minimal file editing. Choose TraderPlus when you want its dedicated configuration and are comfortable maintaining a server-root mod, signing key and mission economy files. Choose Expansion Market when the economy itself is the priority: its category and trader layers let you control explicit permissions, price thresholds, stock thresholds, attachments and variants, while its stock-based model supports a market that changes as players trade.

Whichever route you select, reliability comes from matching four things: the installed release, its dependency order, the active mission/profile paths and the configuration schema. A trader is ready for players only after the zone appears, the inventory loads, permissions behave correctly and the RPT log is clean.
