To add a Steam Game Server Login Token (GSLT) to a Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator server, create the token on Steam’s game-server account page with the correct game app ID. Then stop the server and either paste the token into server_config.sii as server_logon_token, or enter it in your hosting panel’s Steam authentication field.
Use app ID 227300 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and 270880 for American Truck Simulator. Do not use the dedicated-server tool IDs: 1948160 (ETS2) or 2239530 (ATS).

A GSLT authenticates your dedicated server with Steam. It is generated from the Steam account that owns or manages the server and is associated with the game’s app ID. Once the server uses the token, its Session Search ID can remain stable across restarts instead of changing whenever the process is restarted.
The token is a credential, not a password that players should see. Anyone who obtains it may be able to use it in another server configuration, so copy it only into your server configuration or trusted hosting panel and keep it out of public screenshots, chat, issue reports and version-control repositories.

Steam’s token form asks for the game app ID, not the ID of the downloadable dedicated-server tool. Entering the tool ID is the most common reason a token is created for the wrong application.
What you need before starting
- A Steam account that can sign in to Steam’s game-server account management page.
- The app ID for the game your server actually runs:
227300for ETS2 or270880for ATS. - Administrative access to the server files, or access to the host’s control panel.
- A way to stop and start the server cleanly. Do not edit the configuration while the server process is writing to it.
- A secure place to store the copied token temporarily while you complete the setup.
The exact location of server_config.sii depends on how the server was installed and which operating system or host panel is being used. The filename and setting are consistent, but an installation-specific path is not established here; use your server manager’s file browser or search the dedicated-server directory for the filename rather than assuming a universal path.
Generate the Steam Game Server Login Token

In the app-ID field, enter
227300for Euro Truck Simulator 2 or270880for American Truck Simulator. Check the number before submitting; the dedicated-server IDs are not valid substitutes for this field. -
Generate the token.

Copy the generated value immediately into a secure temporary note or password manager entry. Treat it as private account-related data, and do not paste it into a public configuration example.

If you run more than one server instance, create and track a separate token for each instance so that one server’s credentials can be changed without disturbing another. Label your private records with the game and server name, not with the token itself in a public document.

Method 1: Add the token to server_config.sii
Manual editing works on any self-hosted ETS2 or ATS server, regardless of the control panel. It gives you direct control, but a malformed line can prevent the server from starting.
Stop the server first
Use your service manager, launch script or host panel to stop the dedicated server and wait until the process has fully exited. Editing a live file can be overwritten when the process shuts down, leaving you with no token or a partially written configuration.
Open the configuration file
Locate server_config.sii in the server’s configuration directory. If you do not know the path, use the panel’s file manager, inspect the directory used by the server start command, or search the server installation for that exact filename. Avoid editing a similarly named client profile or a backup copy; the file must be the one loaded by the dedicated server.
Insert the token on the existing setting
Find this setting:
server_logon_token: ""
Place the token between the quotation marks, leaving the setting name, colon, spacing and quotation marks intact. The finished line should have this form:

server_logon_token: "YOUR_GENERATED_TOKEN"
Replace YOUR_GENERATED_TOKEN with the value Steam generated. Do not add extra quotation marks, remove the colon, split the token across lines, or append comments to the line. Keep the rest of server_config.sii unchanged.
Save, start and check
- Save the file using plain text formatting.
- Confirm that the file still contains one
server_logon_tokenentry and that the token is between a single pair of quotes. - Start the server using the same service, script or panel normally used to run it.
- Allow the process to complete its startup before testing a connection or server listing.
If the server fails immediately after the edit, stop it again and compare the line character by character with the expected syntax. A missing quote or an accidental line break is more likely than a Steam-side problem when the failure begins directly after a file edit.
Method 2: Add the token in a hosting panel
Many managed game-server panels provide a field that writes the value into the underlying configuration for you. The label varies by provider. Look under settings such as Server Options for Steam Auth token, or open a tab named Server Login Token.
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Open the server’s configuration or options page.
- Find the Steam authentication, Steam Auth token or Server Login Token field.
- Paste the complete token without surrounding spaces or additional quotation marks unless the panel explicitly displays them as part of its input format.
- Save or apply the setting.
- Start the server and wait for the panel to report that the process is running.
A panel avoids direct syntax errors in server_config.sii, but it introduces a different dependency: the field must belong to the ETS2 or ATS server instance you are actually starting. If a panel has several profiles, nodes or installations, verify the server name and installation before saving.

Both methods set the same underlying value. Choose one method for a given installation rather than entering different values in multiple places and losing track of which configuration the server reads.

How to verify that the token is being used
Confirm the value survived the restart
After the server starts, reopen the panel field or inspect server_config.sii while the server is stopped for maintenance. The token should still be present in the location you edited. If it disappeared, you may have changed a generated copy, edited the wrong server profile, or allowed the panel to regenerate the file from another template.
Check server identity behavior
The purpose of the GSLT includes keeping the server’s Session Search ID stable across restarts. Record the server’s displayed identity before a planned restart and compare it after the restart. A change may indicate that the token was not loaded, the wrong app ID was used, or the server is reading a different configuration file.
Test with a controlled restart
Perform one deliberate stop-and-start cycle after saving the token. Avoid changing unrelated settings at the same time. Isolating the restart makes it easier to tell whether a listing or identity problem is caused by the token configuration or by another server change.

The token was rejected or the server does not authenticate
- Check that the token was generated for the correct app ID:
227300for ETS2 or270880for ATS. - Make sure you did not enter
1948160or2239530; those identify the dedicated-server tools, not the games for which the login token is created. - Copy the complete token again. Do not include a leading or trailing space, line break or explanatory text.
- Confirm that the server has actually been restarted after the change.
- Verify that the account page and the server configuration belong to the same game instance you intend to operate.
The server will not start after a manual edit
- Stop the process and restore the last known-good copy of
server_config.siiif you made a backup. - Inspect the
server_logon_tokenline for missing or doubled quotation marks, a missing colon or a line break inside the token. - Remove accidental comments or extra characters from that line.
- Save the file as plain text and try one restart with no other configuration changes.
If removing the token restores startup, the problem is usually formatting or an incomplete paste. Generate a fresh token only after confirming that the file syntax is correct; replacing a valid credential will not repair a malformed configuration line.
The panel has no token field
Some hosts do not expose every server option. Ask the host whether it supports a Steam Auth token or Server Login Token setting. If the panel provides a file manager, you may be able to use the manual method by editing the actual server_config.sii loaded by that instance. Do not create a steam_game_server.cfg file unless the host’s ETS2/ATS documentation specifically requires one; that file is not part of this token procedure.

The token appears saved, but the Session Search ID changes
- Confirm that the value is in the active server’s
server_config.sii, not a local game profile or an unused backup. - Check the app ID and regenerate the token if it was created for the wrong game.
- Make sure a panel startup template is not replacing your edited file each time the server launches.
- Stop the server fully before checking or editing the file, then perform a clean restart.
Security and operational practices
Keep the credential private
The GSLT is tied to your Steam account. Store it in a password manager or another restricted location, and redact it before sharing configuration files or screenshots. Do not commit a file containing the token to a public Git repository or send it in a community chat.
Limit who can edit the server
Give file or panel access only to administrators who need it. A user who can read server_config.sii can usually read the token as well, so treat server backups and support exports as sensitive.

Document the mapping privately
For each server, record the game, server name and the app ID used to create its token. Keep that inventory separate from public documentation. This prevents an ETS2 token from being pasted into an ATS instance and makes later maintenance less error-prone.
Replace exposed credentials
If the token appears in a public post, repository or untrusted support ticket, treat it as compromised. Return to Steam’s game-server account management page and create a replacement token, then update the server configuration and restart it. Remove the exposed value from any copies you control.
Important distinction from Source-game instructions
Guides for Source and Source 2 dedicated servers often describe a sv_setsteamaccount launch-line option and a steam_game_server.cfg file. That procedure does not apply to ETS2 or ATS. For these games, use the Steam game app ID and the server_logon_token setting in server_config.sii, or the equivalent Steam token field supplied by your host.
