Use destruction in Rainbow Six Tactics to achieve a specific tactical result—not simply to damage the map. Before committing a move, decide whether the opening will create a route, expose a firing line, or remove enemy cover. Then coordinate that change with The Breach, the announced phase in which active Operators can move together and combine their abilities with environmental destruction. The exact surfaces, costs, enemy reactions, and mission rules have not yet been published, so the framework below separates confirmed features from planning principles adapted from Rainbow Six Siege.
What Rainbow Six Tactics has confirmed
Rainbow Six Tactics is an announced turn-based, single-player game. You command Operators, plan missions, and then execute those plans rather than relying on a continuous real-time firefight. Ubisoft’s official Xbox Wire reveal says the game will recruit 15 Operators from Rainbow Six Siege, carrying their signature gear and abilities into the new format. That confirms the roster premise, not the exact behavior, range, action cost, or durability of every Operator tool.
The reveal identifies three uses for destruction: creating new lines of sight, destroying enemy cover, and creating new points of entry. It also introduces The Breach, a synchronized assault in which all active Operators can move at once while combining their abilities with environmental destruction. Those are the foundations for team planning. Ubisoft has announced a 2027 release window, but not an exact date, physical edition, retailer listing, mission catalogue, or complete rulebook.

Ubisoft describes the design this way: “Rainbow Six Siege is known for its destructible environment, and Rainbow Six Tactics will carry on that tradition, allowing players to break through walls to create new lines of sight, destroy enemy cover, and create new points of entry as needed.” Treat that statement as the boundary of what is currently certain. A particular wall type, floor, gadget interaction, damage value, alert radius, or optimal mission solution should not be presented as established fact until Ubisoft documents it.

Why a destroyed surface is a tactical decision
A hole changes the geometry of an encounter. It can shorten a route, expose a defender, remove protection, or give an enemy a new angle on your own team. The right question is not “Can we break this?” but “What does breaking this let us do, and what new danger does it create?”
Choose one primary purpose
| Purpose | What the opening gives you | Planning question | Typical follow-up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Route creation | A point of entry or a shorter path into the objective area. | Which Operator needs to pass through, and where will that Operator end the move? | Move the assault element through while another Operator watches the new approach. |
| Sightline creation | Visibility across a room, corridor, or adjacent position. | Who benefits from seeing through the opening, and can that Operator use the angle safely? | Place a covering Operator on the angle before exposing the mover. |
| Cover removal | Less protection for an enemy position that is difficult to attack directly. | Which enemy position becomes vulnerable, and what will you do if it is empty? | Pressure the exposed position or switch to the newly available route. |
An opening can serve more than one purpose, but naming the primary purpose prevents waste. A route that does not lead to a useful destination is not automatically valuable. A sightline that exposes your own flank may be worse than an intact wall. Removing cover without a planned follow-up can reveal an enemy without giving your team a safe way to act.
A planning cycle for each destructive action
The following procedure is a planning framework, not a confirmed in-game menu or role system. It translates the announced mechanics into decisions you can make once the game provides a playable mission.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Survey before committing. Gather the information the mission makes available about objective location, likely enemy positions, available approaches, and your Operators’ starting positions. Do not assume that Tactics has a specific reconnaissance gadget or visibility rule; the point is to avoid opening a surface before you know why it matters.
- Mark the intended result. Write down one short purpose: “enter from this side,” “see the far position,” or “remove that cover.” If you cannot state the result, hold the action and gather more information.
- Choose the timing. Decide whether the opening should precede movement, coincide with the assault, or be delayed until another threat is controlled. Destruction may change enemy awareness and available angles; the reveal does not yet specify exactly how, so plan for the possibility that the battlefield will become more dangerous as well as more open.
- Assign jobs around the opening. A useful suggested pattern is an opener who creates the route or angle, a mover who exploits it, and a covering Operator who watches the exposed space. These are planning labels, not confirmed classes. One Operator may perform several jobs if the mission allows it.
- Coordinate the assault. Use The Breach when the value of the opening depends on several Operators acting together. Plan each active Operator’s destination before execution so that the synchronized movement creates pressure from multiple positions instead of sending everyone through the same gap.
- Resolve the new information. After the surface is removed, check what the opening actually reveals. If the expected target is absent, do not force the original plan. Redirect the mover, hold the angle, or preserve the opening as a threat that constrains enemy movement.
- Keep a second option. Avoid spending every destructive opportunity at the first obstacle. A later breach may be more valuable for extraction, a flank, or a protected objective. The best opening is the one that improves your next decision, not necessarily the one that produces the largest visible hole.
Build a team around complementary jobs
The announced roster contains 15 Siege Operators, but Ubisoft has not stated how many can be taken into a particular mission or whether every signature ability works identically to its Siege version. Plan around functions rather than assuming a fixed squad template.
| Planning job | Responsibility | Questions to answer before execution |
|---|---|---|
| Opening specialist | Creates the route, sightline, or cover break. | Can this Operator reach the surface safely? Is the opening worth using now? |
| Angle exploiter | Uses the new line of sight to threaten a position. | What can this Operator see immediately, and what protects the Operator from a return angle? |
| Assault mover | Passes through the new entry point or changes position during The Breach. | Where is the safest destination, and what action follows arrival? |
| Cover controller | Pressures or bypasses the enemy position exposed by destruction. | Is the target actually occupied, and can pressure be maintained if it is not? |
| Security or reserve | Watches the approach you are leaving and responds if the first plan changes. | What route remains open for retreat or reinforcement? |
This division stops a common failure: the Operator who creates an opening is left alone while the rest of the team is still repositioning. If The Breach allows active Operators to move simultaneously, use that synchronization to make the opening and its exploitation part of one plan rather than separate turns that give the opponent time to react.

Adapting to the three announced uses of destruction
Route creation: make entry change the fight
Use a new point of entry when the existing approach is predictable, exposed, or too slow for the objective. First identify the destination, not just the surface: an opening is useful only if an Operator can arrive somewhere that improves the team’s position. During planning, place the mover so the first step through the breach does not end in an isolated or cross-fired location.
Consider leaving the original route available. A second approach can divide enemy attention and provide a fallback if the new entry is watched. Conversely, opening several routes at once may give defenders more angles on your team. Because exact alert and reinforcement rules in Tactics are not yet public, treat the number of simultaneous openings as a risk decision rather than a guaranteed advantage.

A sightline should answer a question: Is the corridor occupied? Which cover protects the objective? Can the mover cross safely? Use the Operator who benefits most from the view, and avoid moving the whole team into the angle merely because it exists. One controlled observer can provide enough information for the rest of the squad to choose a route.
Plan the angle’s limits. A new view may reveal an enemy position while also allowing enemies to see your opening. Keep a covering position, use the synchronized movement of The Breach when several angles must be established together, and be ready to close the sequence by moving away if the view is unfavorable. The game has not confirmed whether openings can be sealed or how visibility is calculated, so “close” here means abandoning or changing the exposed position, not rebuilding a wall.
Cover removal: turn protection into a liability
Destroy cover when the protected position is important enough to justify changing the map. The action is strongest when another Operator is ready to exploit the exposed target immediately. If no one can act on the result, wait or choose a different purpose.

Do not assume that a covered enemy must be behind the surface you destroy. The reveal confirms the ability to destroy enemy cover as a design purpose, not a universal rule that every break removes a specific defender’s protection. Verify the result during execution, then choose between pressure, a new route, or disengagement.
Use The Breach as a team plan, not a movement shortcut
The Breach is the announced synchronized assault in which active Operators can move at once and combine their abilities with environmental destruction. Its value is coordination: one action can create an opening while other Operators occupy the angles and destinations that make the opening matter.
Prepare destinations, not just paths
For each active Operator, define a destination and an immediate purpose. The opener reaches the chosen surface. The mover ends beyond or beside the entry point. The covering Operator takes the angle that protects the mover. The reserve remains positioned to respond. If a destination cannot be stated, that Operator may be adding movement without adding pressure.
Sequence exposure inside the synchronized action
Plan which Operator becomes visible first and which one benefits from that attention. A simultaneous move does not mean every Operator should take the same risk. Use one position to draw or block attention while another exploits the newly created line of sight or route, subject to the game’s eventual action and enemy-response rules.
End with a stable formation
A successful breach is not measured only by reaching the other side. Check whether the team can support its new positions, whether the original route remains usable, and whether anyone is stranded outside the protection of the group. If the synchronized assault leaves no safe follow-up, the opening may have been premature.

What Siege principles can—and cannot—teach you
Ubisoft’s historical Rainbow Six Siege guidance is useful context because Tactics is explicitly carrying forward the destructible-environment tradition. A Siege launch guide advises using breaching charges and destruction judiciously, including shotgun blasts or explosives to create sightlines and openings. Another Ubisoft guide describes Sledge as a close-range, destruction-focused Operator whose hammer can breach destructible walls, floors, and barricades.
Those sources support a general principle: destruction should be deliberate, and both sides can use a changed environment strategically. They do not establish that Sledge’s hammer, a particular charge, a specific surface category, or Siege’s timing and damage rules will work the same way in Tactics. Carry the decision-making lesson across; do not carry over unverified numbers, cooldowns, action costs, or map interactions.
Siege development material also emphasizes that environmental destruction reshapes how attackers and defenders use a map. In a turn-based game, that idea becomes a planning loop: change the geometry, observe the new threat picture, and revise the next action. The loop is transferable; the exact interface and mission rules remain to be confirmed.

The following examples are hypothetical situations designed to show how to think about the announced mechanics. They are not descriptions of confirmed missions or optimal solutions.
Example: a blocked objective approach
Your team can approach an objective through a watched corridor or create a side entry. The side opening is valuable only if an Operator can reach a protected destination beyond it. Assign one Operator to create the route, a second to move through during The Breach, and a third to hold the corridor so the enemy cannot concentrate on the new entry. If the side room is empty, the team still gained a flank—but it should not abandon the corridor until the new position is secure.

Example: a defender behind cover
An enemy position is visible only as a protected angle. Instead of opening a random wall, select destruction whose primary purpose is cover removal. Have the angle exploiter ready before the opener acts. If the target relocates, convert the opening into a sightline or route rather than spending additional destruction to chase a position that may no longer matter.
Example: an opening that reveals too much
A planned sightline exposes the objective but also gives enemies a direct view of your approach. Keep the observer at the edge, move the assault element through a different path, and preserve the opening as information rather than forcing everyone to cross it. The correct adaptation is to change the plan after seeing the angle, not to defend the original decision.
Common mistakes and corrections
- Breaking surfaces because they are destructible. Correction: state the route, sightline, or cover-removal purpose first.
- Opening without an exploiter. Correction: assign the mover or angle holder before the opener acts.
- Stacking every Operator at one breach. Correction: use The Breach to establish complementary positions, not a single crowded lane.
- Assuming Siege tools behave identically. Correction: verify each Operator’s Tactics implementation when the game is released.
- Continuing after the situation changes. Correction: reassess the information revealed by the opening and switch purposes if necessary.
- Spending all destructive options early. Correction: preserve at least one alternative route or later opening unless the mission explicitly rewards a decisive first assault.
- Treating a larger hole as a better result. Correction: judge the opening by the safe actions it enables and the risks it introduces.
Limits to keep in mind before launch
Public information does not yet establish the game’s mission length, squad size, turn economy, destruction resource costs, surface-by-surface rules, enemy alert behavior, ability cooldowns, line-of-sight model, or whether destroyed structures can be repaired. It also does not establish that every one of the 15 recruited Operators will be available in every mission or that their Siege equipment will have identical effects.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Build your early strategy around observable outcomes rather than assumptions. When the game provides a preview, tutorial, or final manual, check four things before relying on a tactic: which surfaces can be destroyed, what action or resource the destruction consumes, how enemies respond, and whether the opening remains useful after the first move. Until those details are published, avoid declaring a “best” Operator, loadout, breach location, or mission sequence.
Quick checklist for a destructive-environment turn
- What is the opening’s primary purpose: route, sightline, or cover removal?
- What information supports making it now?
- Who creates the opening, who exploits it, and who covers the exposed space?
- Can The Breach synchronize those jobs into one assault?
- Where does each active Operator finish, and what is the immediate follow-up?
- What route or position remains if the opening reveals an unexpected threat?
- Have you preserved an alternative instead of using every destructive option?
- After the surface changes, what new information requires a different plan?
Bottom line
Rainbow Six Tactics turns destruction into a planning tool: create the entry that changes your route, the sightline that answers a tactical question, or the opening that removes meaningful cover. Coordinate that change through The Breach so Operators move as a team, assign complementary jobs around the opening, and reassess once the new geometry reveals information. Siege provides useful principles about deliberate destruction, but the exact rules and optimal solutions for Tactics remain unconfirmed until Ubisoft publishes more game-specific details.
