To move your existing mobile number to Red Pocket Mobile, obtain your current carrier’s account number and transfer PIN first, remove any port-out lock, and keep the old line active. During Red Pocket’s activation flow, choose the option to transfer a number—rather than receive a new number—then enter the requested account details. Install the physical SIM or eSIM over Wi‑Fi and verify an outgoing call and text.

Red Pocket says the number-transfer request must be made during activation; a line activated with a new number cannot later be changed to bring in your old number. The process is available only from the United States, so have the required information and a reliable Wi‑Fi connection ready before you begin.

Before you start: a five-minute checklist

Gather these items before opening the activation page:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The mobile number you want to keep. It must match the number on the account at your current carrier.
  • Your current carrier account number. This is usually different from your phone number and may be shown in the carrier’s app, online account, bill, or customer-support records.
  • Your transfer PIN, port-out PIN, or account password. Use the credential your current carrier requires for a number transfer; do not guess.
  • The name of your previous carrier. Red Pocket’s activation form asks for it along with the number, account number, and authorizing PIN or password.
  • The Red Pocket activation identifier. A physical-SIM order can use the confirmation code supplied with the order or the ICCID printed on the SIM. An eSIM uses the confirmation code delivered by email.
  • An unlocked, compatible phone. If the phone has more than one IMEI, Red Pocket’s physical-SIM flow specifies IMEI 2 when that field is presented.
  • Wi‑Fi. Red Pocket recommends Wi‑Fi for setup, particularly when downloading an eSIM.

Do not cancel your old service before the transfer finishes. Red Pocket specifically says the existing line must remain active until the number transfer is complete.

Get the porting details from your current carrier

Find the account number and transfer PIN

Use your current carrier’s official app, web account, bill, or support channel to retrieve the exact account number and transfer PIN. Requirements vary by carrier and can change. Red Pocket’s carrier guide gives examples for providers including Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Boost, Cricket, Visible, Mint, MetroPCS, Google Fi, and TracFone. If your carrier is not listed or its instructions differ, ask that carrier for its current port-out requirements.

Remove a port-out blocker

Some carriers place a port-out lock, number-transfer lock, or similar security hold on an account. Ask the current carrier to disable it before submitting the Red Pocket request. A correct account number and PIN can still fail if the old carrier blocks outbound transfers.

Keep the old line usable

Leave the old SIM and service active while Red Pocket processes the request. The old carrier may need to validate the line, and cancelling it early can prevent the number from being transferred.

Physical SIM or eSIM: which activation path applies?

Item Physical SIM eSIM
Activation identifier Order confirmation code or the SIM’s ICCID Confirmation code sent by email
When to request the port During Red Pocket activation, before completing the line setup
Where activation can be completed Red Pocket says activation can only be completed from the United States
Installation Insert the SIM, then wait for the activation notification; Red Pocket says to allow up to 15 minutes After activation, accept the phone’s eSIM prompt or scan the generated QR code over Wi‑Fi
Device requirement Most phones use a physical SIM, subject to carrier and device compatibility The phone must support eSIM; compatibility depends on the model and software

The physical-SIM instructions are in Red Pocket’s SIM activation help article. The eSIM path is described in Red Pocket’s eSIM activation article.

Activate Red Pocket while bringing your number

1. Open the activation page

Go to Red Pocket’s activation page from the United States. Have the activation code, ICCID, or emailed eSIM code available. If the page asks for your device’s IMEI, obtain it from the phone’s Settings screen or the device packaging; use the IMEI 2 field when Red Pocket presents that field for a multi-IMEI phone.

2. Select the number-transfer option

Choose the option to transfer or bring in a number from another carrier. Do not select a new Red Pocket number if your goal is to keep the existing one. Red Pocket states that number transfers must be completed during activation and cannot be added later to a line that was activated with a new number.

3. Enter the number and old-carrier information

Complete the fields using the records from your current carrier:

  1. Enter the phone number to transfer.
  2. Enter the current carrier’s account number exactly as issued.
  3. Enter the transfer PIN, port-out PIN, or password requested by the form.
  4. Select or type the previous carrier.
  5. Provide the activation code or SIM identifier requested for your Red Pocket order.
  6. Enter device information such as the IMEI when the live form requires it.

Red Pocket warns that the phone number must exactly match the number on the current carrier account. Copying the account number and PIN from the carrier’s official records helps avoid a mismatch. Follow the labels shown in the live form because fields and device prompts can change.

4. Review before submitting

Check every digit of the number, account number, PIN, and IMEI. Confirm that the old line is still active and that its port-out blocker is disabled. A typographical error can cause the old carrier to reject the request or delay manual correction.

5. Submit the port request and finish activation

Submit the transfer request and complete the remaining Red Pocket activation screens. Red Pocket does not establish a universal completion time in its help material, so do not assume a particular number of minutes or hours. Keep the old phone available for status messages and verification until the transfer has completed.

Install and test a physical Red Pocket SIM

Insert the card

Connect the phone to Wi‑Fi, power it on, and open the SIM tray. A SIM-ejector tool can open the tray; a straightened paper clip is an alternative. Match the card’s cut corner to the tray, place it in the correct orientation, and reinsert the tray without forcing it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Allow the activation notification

Red Pocket’s installation guidance says to allow up to 15 minutes for an activation text after inserting the SIM. Leave the phone powered on and connected while it registers. If the phone shows a carrier or network update prompt, accept it and follow the device’s instructions.

Test basic service

Place an outgoing call and send a text message. Test from a second phone if possible so you can confirm both the outgoing and incoming paths. If the call and text work, the transfer and SIM registration are functioning; mobile data can then be checked separately in the phone’s network settings.

Install and test a Red Pocket eSIM

Use Wi‑Fi during download

Keep the phone on a reliable Wi‑Fi network. Cellular service from the new line is not yet available while the eSIM profile is being downloaded, so Wi‑Fi prevents the installation from stalling.

Accept the prompt or scan the QR code

After activation, Red Pocket provides a QR code. Some phones display an automatic prompt to add the new eSIM; accept it when shown. Otherwise, open the phone’s cellular or mobile-network settings, choose the option to add an eSIM, and scan the QR code generated after activation. Follow the device prompts until the profile is installed and selected for calls and texts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confirm the line is selected

If the phone has more than one line, check the cellular settings and identify the Red Pocket eSIM as the line used for voice and messaging. Avoid deleting the old eSIM or changing the old carrier’s settings until the number transfer has completed and the new line has been tested.

iSYFIX SIM Card Tray Eject Pin Removal Tool, 10 Pack
  • What you get: 10 identical steel SIM ejector needles, one standard size that fits the eject hole of any phone or tablet with a physical SIM slot, so a spare is always within reach
  • Right for your device: Android and Samsung Galaxy phones, cellular iPads and tablets, and any iPhone that still uses a physical SIM, one needle works for all of them
  • How to use: push the needle straight into the small hole next to the SIM drawer until it pops open, then lift out the drawer, no force, twisting or technical skill needed
  • The difference vs paperclips: a rigid one piece steel needle holds its shape where bent wire flexes, so it presses the release cleanly without scratching or jamming the port
  • Ten spares, zero hunting: keep one at home, at the office, in the car, in your wallet and in every travel bag, and hand extras to family or coworkers who always lose theirs

Test calls and texts

Make an outgoing call and send a text message, then have another phone call and text the transferred number. If both directions work, the eSIM installation and number registration are complete.

Check device compatibility and carrier lock status

An activation can fail even when the porting credentials are correct if the phone is locked to another carrier or does not support the required network technology. Confirm that the phone is carrier-unlocked and use Red Pocket’s current compatibility checker or support channel for a model-specific answer.

Red Pocket’s general eSIM examples include iPhone 11 and newer, Motorola Razr 2020 5G and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 3 and newer. These are examples, not a complete compatibility list; exact support can vary by model variant, software, and network. A phone that accepts a physical SIM is not automatically eSIM-compatible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Understand which old-carrier details matter

The activation form’s labels are important. “Phone Number (To Transfer)” means the number currently assigned to the old account, not a temporary number or a different line on a family plan. “Account Number” refers to the old carrier’s service-account identifier. A billing account number, device installment number, or wireless number may not be accepted in its place.

Some carriers issue a transfer PIN that expires or changes after use. Obtain it shortly before activation and copy it exactly, including any leading zeroes. If the old carrier uses an account password rather than a separate port PIN, enter the credential it identifies for transfers. Never submit guessed credentials repeatedly; ask the carrier to confirm the correct value.

On a multi-line account, verify which line is being moved and whether the carrier requires a separate security step for that line. Leave the other lines and the account itself in place until the requested number is working on Red Pocket. Red Pocket’s carrier guide is a starting point, but the old carrier remains the authority for current account-security procedures.

After the number appears on Red Pocket

Do not remove the old SIM, old eSIM profile, or old carrier account immediately if you still need to verify service. First make an outgoing call, send a text, receive a call, and receive a text. On a dual-SIM phone, check the default voice and messaging lines so the test uses Red Pocket rather than the old service.

Once both directions work, check mobile data separately and confirm that the Red Pocket line is selected for cellular data if the phone has two lines. Save the activation confirmation and any support case number. These records help if a later device restart or account change requires support to identify the original transfer.

Troubleshoot the most common activation and porting failures

The form rejects the number or account information

  • Verify that the number entered is the one currently assigned to the old account, including any area-code digits required by the form.
  • Retrieve the account number directly from the old carrier instead of using the phone number or a billing profile number.
  • Generate or request a fresh transfer PIN if the old carrier uses temporary PINs.
  • Check that the old carrier’s port-out blocker is disabled.
  • Contact the old carrier if its account has a pending change, suspension, or security hold.

The transfer was submitted but the old line stopped working

Do not cancel or replace the old line while a transfer is in progress. Check the transfer status with Red Pocket and the old carrier using their current support channels. Keep records of the submitted number, account number, and confirmation messages so support can compare the request with the carrier’s account data.

A physical SIM shows no service

  • Confirm that the card is seated correctly and that the phone recognizes the SIM.
  • Keep the phone on Wi‑Fi and allow the full 15-minute activation window described by Red Pocket.
  • Restart the phone after the activation notification or after waiting the stated period.
  • Check that the device is unlocked and compatible.
  • Test a call and text before changing advanced network settings.

The eSIM will not download

  • Reconnect to a stable Wi‑Fi network.
  • Check that the phone supports eSIM and has enough available eSIM capacity for another profile.
  • Use the QR code generated after activation or the device prompt supplied by Red Pocket; do not substitute a code from another order.
  • Restart the phone and retry the add-eSIM flow if the profile download stops.
  • Contact Red Pocket support if the code is invalid, expired, or has already been used.

Calls work but texts or incoming calls do not

Recheck which line is selected for voice and messaging on a dual-SIM phone. Restart after the transfer status changes, then test from another phone. If only one direction fails, provide Red Pocket support with the exact symptom and the time it began rather than submitting a second port request.

Timing, location, and plan-validity limits

Activation location

Red Pocket’s physical-SIM and eSIM help pages say activation can only be completed from the United States. If you are outside the U.S., wait until you can complete the activation from an eligible location or confirm the current policy with Red Pocket before opening the process.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Physical-SIM activation window

Red Pocket’s physical-SIM help content states that plans expire after 90 days. The page does not establish that every order, retailer purchase, or eSIM follows identical terms, so check the terms attached to your specific order and activate within that stated window.

Port completion time

The official guidance explains the required data and installation steps but does not promise a universal transfer duration or success rate. Keep the old line active and monitor both carriers until calls and texts work on the Red Pocket line.

When to contact support

Contact Red Pocket through its current support channels when the activation code is not accepted, the eSIM QR code fails, the phone remains unregistered after the installation steps, or the transfer status does not match the service you see. Contact the old carrier when the account number or transfer PIN is unavailable, a port-out lock cannot be removed, or the carrier reports that its records do not match the submitted request. Red Pocket’s installation instructions and number-transfer guide are useful references when describing the problem to support.

How long does a Red Pocket number transfer take?

Red Pocket’s guidance does not promise one universal completion time. Keep the old service active, watch both carriers for status updates, and test calls and texts before cancelling or changing the old account.

Can I activate a Red Pocket SIM outside the United States?

Red Pocket’s physical-SIM and eSIM help pages state that activation can only be completed from the United States. Confirm the current rule with Red Pocket if your order was purchased elsewhere or you are traveling.

What is the 90-day activation rule?

Red Pocket’s physical-SIM help content says plans expire after 90 days. Because terms can differ by order or retailer, check the conditions attached to your plan and activate within that stated period.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need Wi‑Fi?

Wi‑Fi is recommended for setup and is particularly important for downloading an eSIM. For a physical SIM, Wi‑Fi also lets you complete setup and troubleshooting while the phone registers on the network.

Which phones support Red Pocket eSIM?

Red Pocket gives general examples such as iPhone 11 and later, Motorola Razr 2020 5G and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and Google Pixel 3 and later. The examples are not exhaustive; check the current compatibility tool for your exact model and software.

What should I do if the SIM or eSIM does not work?

For a physical SIM, reseat it, stay on Wi‑Fi, allow up to 15 minutes for the activation notification, and verify that the phone is unlocked and compatible. For an eSIM, retry over stable Wi‑Fi with the QR code generated for that order. Contact Red Pocket if the code or activation remains unsuccessful.

Can I use a paper clip instead of a SIM-ejector tool?

Yes. Red Pocket’s installation guidance identifies a SIM-ejector tool and says a paper clip can also open the tray. Use a straightened clip carefully and never force the tray.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Collect the old carrier’s account number and transfer PIN, remove its port-out lock, and keep that line active. During Red Pocket activation, select number transfer and enter the details exactly as provided. Then install the physical SIM or eSIM over Wi‑Fi, allow the stated activation window, and test incoming and outgoing calls and texts.

Do not activate a new number first, assume a universal transfer time, or rely on a generic compatibility list. If the request fails, the old carrier can correct account credentials and Red Pocket can troubleshoot activation, QR-code, SIM, or device issues.
