Expansion 1 is not available yet. Forza has announced a January 21, 2027 release date. When it launches, access will depend on the account and storefront that owns the entitlement: Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, Expansions Bundle, or a separate Expansion 1 purchase. Confirm that entitlement first, then use your platform’s game library or add-on management screen to download it. The announcement does not yet publish a Forza-specific, menu-by-menu installation path, so the platform instructions below are general guidance and may use different labels after release.
When can you access Forza Horizon 6 Expansion 1?
Expansion 1 is scheduled for January 21, 2027. It is a future release relative to October 17, 2026, so it cannot be downloaded or launched before the publisher makes it available on your platform. A store page may show that you own the expansion before release, but ownership is not the same as an installed, playable add-on.
Expansion 2 is also included with some editions, but no release date has been announced in the available official material. Do not treat it as downloadable with Expansion 1 or assume that a pre-load date exists. Check the current listing for your storefront when Forza publishes an update.
Which purchase gives you the expansion?
There are four relevant entitlement routes. Your correct installation method starts with identifying which one you have and whether you already own the base game.
#1 Best Overall
- DISCOVER JAPAN — Explore Horizon’s largest map ever, set in Japan and packed with dramatic verticality, diverse biomes, and spectacular open‑road driving routes.
- CRUISE ICONIC LOCATIONS — Drive through Tokyo’s city streets, suburbs, docks, and industrial districts in the most expansive urban environment in Horizon history.
- DRIVE 550+ REAL‑WORLD CARS — Collect and customize over 550 licensed vehicles with body kits, Forza Aero, window liveries, and enhanced steering animations.
- BUILD YOUR ESTATE — Purchase beautiful homes across Japan and customize garages to showcase your growing car collection as you rise through the Horizon Festival.
- JOIN THE HORIZON COMMUNITY — Race, cruise, and compete with friends in Time Attack Circuits, Drag Meets, Car Meets, and Horizon multiplayer modes, including Spec Racing Championships.
| Purchase or entitlement | Base game included? | Expansion 1 | Expansion 2 | Important condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium Edition | Yes | Included | Included | Includes the full game and the listed Premium extras. |
| Premium Upgrade | No | Included | Included | Requires the game or an eligible Game Pass subscription. |
| Expansions Bundle | Not stated as including the base game | Included | Included | Use it with the base game on the storefront where the bundle was bought. |
| Separate Expansion 1 purchase | No | Included | Not included | Expansion 1 must be purchased separately; Expansion 2 is a different entitlement. |
Premium Edition
Premium Edition includes the complete game, VIP Membership, Welcome Pack, Car Pass, Time Attack Car Pack, Italian Passion Car Pack, and Expansions 1 and 2. If you bought this edition, you should not need to buy Expansion 1 again. The expansion remains unavailable until its announced release date and any platform-level release or download process is completed.
Premium Upgrade
Premium Upgrade supplies the Premium add-ons, including Expansions 1 and 2, but it does not include the full game. You need the base game or an eligible Game Pass subscription. If the upgrade appears in your account but the game itself is missing, installing the upgrade alone will not create a complete game installation.
Expansions Bundle
The Expansions Bundle is another stated route to both expansions. The available announcement does not describe it as a replacement for the base game. Treat it as add-on content and verify that the base game is installed or otherwise available on the same account and storefront.
Buying Expansion 1 separately
Forza has said that Expansion 1 will also be sold separately. This is the simplest route if you own the standard game and do not want the other Premium add-ons. A separate purchase grants Expansion 1 only; it does not establish ownership of Expansion 2 or the other Premium Edition benefits.
Rank #2
- PREMIUM EDITION — Includes the full game, VIP Membership, Welcome Pack, Time Attack Car Pack, Car Pass, Italian Passion Car Pack, and two Premium Expansions (coming post launch).
Check the platform and storefront before installing
An expansion is tied to the account and store that processed the purchase. Before troubleshooting a missing download, write down:
- The platform: Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Windows PC, PlayStation 5, or Steam.
- The storefront: for example, Xbox/Microsoft Store or Steam.
- The account currently signed in on the device.
- The edition, upgrade, bundle, or standalone expansion you purchased.
- Whether the base game is owned outright or accessed through an eligible subscription.
Do not assume that a save file appearing on another device proves that an expansion entitlement transferred there. The official feature information says that a digital Xbox Series X|S or Microsoft Store Windows PC purchase can be used on both Xbox and Microsoft Store PC, with save profiles and DLC entitlements carried across without repurchase. That specific cross-buy statement does not include Steam.
Forza separately states that cross-play and cross-save are supported across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Cross-save means progression can be shared under the supported account arrangement; it does not prove that a DLC purchase made in one storefront becomes owned in every other storefront. If you bought an expansion on Steam, do not use the Xbox/Microsoft Store cross-buy statement as evidence that it will appear in the Steam-linked or console store library, or vice versa.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsInstall Expansion 1 when it releases
The following are practical platform-level checks, not quoted Forza instructions. Forza’s announcement confirms the entitlement and release information but does not publish exact menu paths. Store interfaces can change, and the wording may differ by region, console software version, or app version.
Rank #3
- PREMIUM UPGRADE — Includes VIP Membership, Welcome Pack, Time Attack Car Pack, Car Pass, Italian Passion Car Pack, and two Premium Expansions. Requires Forza Horizon 6 base game or Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
- VIP MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS — Enjoy a 2x Credit boost to race rewards, 3 VIP-Exclusive Forza Edition cars, a weekly bonus Super Wheelspin, and special Vanity Items.
- WELCOME PACK — Features 5 special pre-tuned cars and a Car Voucher, which can be used to claim any car available from the Autoshow.
- TIME ATTACK CAR PACK — Receive 8 legendary cars ideal for mastering every turn and corner at the Time Attack Circuits located around Japan.
- ITALIAN PASSION CAR PACK — Introduces 4 great new Italian cars in Forza Horizon 6 post-launch, perfect for cruising, racing, or exploring.
Xbox Series X|S
- Sign in to the Xbox profile that bought Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, the Expansions Bundle, or Expansion 1.
- Confirm that the base game is installed or available through the eligible subscription associated with your purchase.
- Open the console’s game library and locate Forza Horizon 6.
- Open the game’s management screen, then look for an add-ons, downloadable content, or owned content section.
- Find Expansion 1 and check whether it is marked owned, ready to install, or installed. Start the download if the console has not done so automatically.
- Wait for the download and installation to finish, then launch the game after any required game update has completed.
If Expansion 1 is not listed before January 21, 2027, that is expected. After release, a missing add-on usually points first to the signed-in account, the storefront used for purchase, the game update, or the console’s local library synchronization.
Microsoft Store Windows PC
- Sign in to Windows, the Xbox app, and the Microsoft Store with the account that owns the game or add-on. If your setup uses separate sign-ins, verify each one rather than assuming the Xbox app account controls the Store purchase.
- Open your game library and select Forza Horizon 6.
- Use the game’s manage, add-ons, or included-content area to check whether Expansion 1 is listed.
- If it is owned but not installed, start the add-on download and select the same storage location used for the game unless the app offers another supported location.
- Allow the Xbox app and Microsoft Store to finish pending updates, then restart the game.
The official cross-buy statement covers a digital Xbox Series X|S or Microsoft Store Windows PC purchase, including DLC entitlements. It does not extend that guarantee to a Steam installation, so use the Microsoft Store/Xbox app path only when the purchase was made in that ecosystem.
PlayStation 5
- Sign in to the PlayStation Network account that purchased the expansion or owns the edition containing it.
- Open the game library, select Forza Horizon 6, and inspect the available add-ons or product information.
- Look for Expansion 1 as owned or available to download, then start the download from the console’s add-on or library control.
- Check the game’s update status and launch only after the console reports that the add-on and the base game are installed.
These are standard PlayStation library checks, not a Forza-published menu path. The documented cross-play and cross-save support does not establish that an Xbox, Microsoft Store, or Steam DLC purchase transfers to PlayStation 5. Purchase and verify the add-on in the PlayStation storefront tied to the account you use on the console.

- Sign in to the Steam account that bought Expansion 1 or an edition containing it.
- Open the Steam Library, select Forza Horizon 6, and open the game’s properties.
- Check the DLC section for Expansion 1 and confirm that it is checked or marked installed when the release is live.
- Return to the game’s local installation controls and allow Steam to complete any pending download or file update.
- Start the game after the DLC and the base game finish updating.
Steam is specifically excluded from the official Xbox/Microsoft Store cross-buy statement. Cross-play and cross-save support are separate features and should not be used to infer DLC ownership between Steam and another storefront.

Storage requirements and download planning
No expansion-specific storage figure has been published in the cited material. The available preload information covers the base game, not Expansion 1:
| Platform | Published base-game preload space | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X | 135 GB free | Plan for the base-game preload only; it is not an Expansion 1 requirement. |
| Xbox Series S | 130 GB free | Plan for the base-game preload only; the add-on may require additional space. |
| Windows PC | 160 GB free and an SSD | Plan for the base-game preload only; check the current store listing for add-on and update needs. |
Keep more free space than the published base-game figure where possible. Updates can require temporary working space while files are downloaded, verified, and replaced. Do not convert the figures above into an alleged Expansion 1 size. Before downloading, open the current store page or platform installation screen and use its latest requirement, because the listing can change after the May 2026 preload information was published.

The add-on is not visible before release
Wait for January 21, 2027 and any platform release window. A pre-purchased entitlement can be recorded in your account without exposing a downloadable package yet. Check the official Forza listing for a revised date before changing accounts or buying the expansion again.
You bought Premium Upgrade but cannot launch the game
Premium Upgrade does not include the full game. Confirm that the base game is installed, owned by the same account, or available through an eligible Game Pass subscription. If the subscription ended or the account changed, the upgrade may remain in the purchase history while the game itself is no longer playable.

You purchased on a different storefront
Return to the store that processed the transaction. Xbox/Microsoft Store cross-buy is documented for digital Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Store Windows PC purchases, including DLC entitlements. That statement does not cover Steam, and cross-save does not establish a universal DLC transfer. Do not repurchase until you have checked the original order history and account.
The game appears current but the add-on is absent
- Open the platform’s add-on or DLC management view and refresh the ownership or library listing.
- Confirm that the base game and the add-on are installed from the same storefront family.
- Install all pending game, console, launcher, or Microsoft Store updates.
- Restart the console or PC and sign in again with the purchasing account.
- Check free storage using the latest platform listing, not only the older base-game preload numbers.
- If the entitlement still does not appear, contact the storefront’s purchase support with the order number rather than buying a second copy.
The download stops or fails
- Make sure the device has the required free space, including room for temporary update files.
- Pause and resume the download, then restart the platform if the queue is stuck.
- Check that the platform service can reach the store and that the account region matches the purchase.
- Verify that the base game is fully updated before launching it.
- Use the platform’s own repair, verify, or redownload option only after confirming the correct account and entitlement.
These checks are general platform troubleshooting, not an official Forza installation procedure. If a store reports that you do not own the content, resolve the account or transaction issue first; reinstalling the game cannot create an entitlement that the store does not recognize.
How the editions affect future content
Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade both list Expansions 1 and 2. Expansion 1 has the announced January 21, 2027 date, while Expansion 2 has no date in the available official material. The Expansions Bundle likewise covers both named expansions, but the bundle should not be mistaken for the complete game. A standalone Expansion 1 purchase gives you only the first expansion.
This distinction matters when moving between devices. On Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Store Windows PC, the stated digital cross-buy arrangement carries the game, save profiles, and DLC entitlements between those two environments without another purchase. A Steam, PlayStation 5, or other storefront installation must be checked under its own store ownership rules. Shared progression can make the game look unified while the DLC license remains storefront-specific.
A quick pre-install checklist
- Expansion 1’s launch date has arrived: January 21, 2027, unless the official listing changes it.
- You know whether your entitlement comes from Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade, Expansions Bundle, or a separate purchase.
- If you own Premium Upgrade, the base game or eligible Game Pass access is active.
- You are signed in to the account and storefront that processed the purchase.
- The base game and platform software are fully updated.
- You have checked current free-space requirements; the published 135 GB, 130 GB, and 160 GB figures apply to the base-game preload, not the expansion.
- You are using the platform’s library or add-on manager to verify ownership and installation.
What is still unknown
Forza has not yet published an exact Expansion 1 installation menu, expansion-specific storage requirement, Expansion 1 feature list, or Expansion 2 release date in the available official announcements. Those details can be added or changed when the expansion launches. The safest procedure is therefore to verify the entitlement in the correct storefront, install through that platform’s library controls after release, and use the current store listing for final size and availability information.
