The beyerdynamic DT 275 PRO does not have a documented built-in microphone or headset-mic monitoring control. It is a wired, closed, on-ear pair of monitoring headphones: it plays audio sent to it, but it does not capture your voice or create its own mic sidetone. To record speech and hear it in the headphones, connect a separate microphone and route its signal through a camera, recorder, audio interface, or mixer with headphone monitoring.

Does the DT 275 PRO have a microphone?

No built-in microphone is listed for the DT 275 PRO in beyerdynamic’s product specifications. The product is identified as wired, closed, on-ear monitoring headphones, and its specification says “Without Remote.” Its published feature list also does not identify a headset microphone input or a microphone-monitoring control. That makes it different from a headset designed to both play sound and capture speech. beyerdynamic’s DT 275 PRO product page and its headphones and headsets catalog are the relevant manufacturer references.

This describes what the manufacturer documents, not every accessory that a third party might devise. In practical terms, however, do not buy or configure the DT 275 PRO expecting it to record your voice by itself. Use a separate microphone connected to the device doing the recording or to an audio interface or mixer.

Can you use it for calls?

You can use it to listen to call audio if the computer, phone, or other device can send its output to the headphones through a compatible connection. But the DT 275 PRO alone cannot supply the microphone input a call needs. For two-way calls, select a separate microphone as the input device and the DT 275 PRO as the output device in the calling app or operating system. Whether that exact setup is possible depends on the ports, adapters, and audio routing available on your device.

What “monitoring” means with these headphones

Here, monitoring means listening to an audio feed provided by connected equipment. The signal travels from a camera, recorder, interface, mixing console, DJ mixer, or other source through the headphone connection and into the DT 275 PRO. You hear what that equipment sends; the headphones themselves do not generate a microphone signal or decide what should be mixed into the feed.

For hearing your own voice while recording, the full path is microphone → camera, recorder, interface, or mixer → headphone output → DT 275 PRO. The external device must receive the mic signal and send it to its headphone output. If you also need to hear playback, that device must mix the mic and playback signals together. The exact routing controls vary by device, so check its instructions for headphone monitoring, input monitoring, or monitor mix.

Direct monitoring and software monitoring

Some recording devices can route an incoming microphone signal to the headphone output while recording; others let you hear it only after it has passed through recording or computer software. In either case, the monitoring function belongs to the device and its routing, not the DT 275 PRO. Software monitoring can add delay, depending on the computer, software, and audio settings. If your voice sounds late, look for a direct-monitoring option on the interface or recorder, or adjust the software’s monitoring and buffer settings. The DT 275 PRO specifications do not promise zero-latency monitoring.

A mic sidetone is the sound of your own voice fed back to your headphones during a call or recording. The manufacturer’s published DT 275 PRO information does not describe built-in sidetone, a mic preamp, or a monitor-mix knob. If you need to hear your voice, confirm that the connected device can route the microphone to its headphone output before a session.

How to connect and monitor a microphone

The DT 275 PRO is the listening endpoint in this setup, not the recording device. Start by identifying which device will capture the microphone and whether it can also provide a headphone feed. The manufacturer describes workflows involving cameras, recorders, audio interfaces, mixing consoles, and DJ mixers, but the ports and monitoring controls differ across models. The product page lists the headphone connection formats and intended workflows.

  1. Connect the microphone to the recording device. Use the mic input appropriate for your microphone and device. Verify that the recording device recognizes an input signal; the headphones cannot correct a missing or improperly routed mic input.
  2. Connect the DT 275 PRO to the device’s headphone output. Its published connector is a 3.5 mm mini stereo jack plug, and the specifications list a 6.35 mm (1/4-inch) adapter. Match the plug to the output you are using. Do not assume that a headphone output and a microphone input are interchangeable.
  3. Enable monitoring or configure the monitor mix on the recording device. Send the microphone input to the headphone output. If you want to hear other sources as well, such as playback or a cue feed, adjust the device’s mix or routing as needed.
  4. Speak and check both the recording meter and headphone feed. A signal on the meter confirms that the recorder is receiving the mic; hearing the voice confirms that a monitor route is also active. Those are separate checks.
  5. Set a comfortable headphone level and make a short test recording. Confirm that the recording contains the intended voice and that the monitoring delay, if any, is acceptable for the task. Follow the recorder or interface instructions for input gain and output level.

If the voice is recorded but not audible

If the input meter moves and the recording captures speech, but the voice is absent from the headphones, the microphone path is working and the monitor path is the likely problem. Check that the recorder or interface sends that input to its headphone output, that the monitor mix includes it, and that headphone output level is turned up. If you are monitoring through computer software, check that the correct input and output devices are selected and that software monitoring is enabled.

If the voice is audible but not recorded

Hearing yourself does not by itself prove that the recording contains your voice. Some devices can provide a live input monitor even when the track or recording destination is not configured correctly. Check the recording input selection, track assignment, and meter while recording, then play back a test clip. Consult the connected device’s manual for its specific recording and monitoring controls.

If the connection does not fit

The DT 275 PRO uses a 3.5 mm mini stereo jack plug and is specified with a 6.35 mm adapter. Check the physical output and its purpose before connecting: a device may have separate headphone, line, and microphone sockets, and a plug adapter changes connector size rather than creating a microphone input or monitoring feature. The cable is detachable, locks into the headphones, and can connect to either earcup according to the manufacturer’s product information.

DT 275 PRO specifications that matter for setup

The following figures are manufacturer-published specifications for the headphone, not independent test results. In particular, impedance and sensitivity do not guarantee a particular listening volume from every camera, phone, recorder, or interface; the connected device’s headphone output matters too.

Where the DT 275 PRO fits—and what it does not replace

beyerdynamic positions the DT 275 PRO as compact, high-isolation monitoring headphones for video shoots, front-of-house (FOH) and side-stage work, livestreaming, DJ cueing, and mobile audio. Closed construction and passive isolation are intended to help when ambient sound is a concern, while its on-ear form, swiveling earcups, and 195 g listed weight without cable suit portable use. The cable, ear pads, and headband padding are described as replaceable, which supports serviceability over time. These are the manufacturer’s stated use cases and product features, not independent performance findings.

Model Manufacturer-described distinction What to verify for your setup
DT 275 PRO Closed, on-ear monitoring headphones positioned for loud or mobile audio work; no built-in mic is documented. Use a separate microphone and a device that routes its signal to the headphone output if you need to hear your voice.
DT 270 PRO Over-ear headphones associated by the manufacturer with practice, recording, podcasts, and indoor studio work. The cited positioning does not establish microphone or sidetone features; check the model’s own specifications for those requirements.
DJ 300 PRO X DJ-oriented model with interchangeable on-ear and over-ear pads and customization features. The manufacturer says its detachable cable is compatible with the DT 275 PRO. Do not infer mic functionality from the cable compatibility or the DJ positioning; verify the exact feature list for the model.

The distinctions above reflect the manufacturer’s product positioning, not a comparative listening test. If the microphone is the deciding feature, look specifically for an included microphone or a clearly documented mic input and sidetone/monitoring function rather than relying on the word “headset” in a general category.

What to check before choosing it for a recording or call

The right question is not simply whether the DT 275 PRO can be plugged into your device. Decide first whether you need playback only, speech capture, or both capture and live self-monitoring. The headphone handles the first role. The other roles depend on an external microphone and the connected equipment.

  • For listening only: Check that your source has a compatible headphone output and that its output level is suitable. Use the listed plug or adapter format as appropriate.
  • For recording speech: Add a separate microphone and confirm that the camera, recorder, interface, or mixer has a compatible mic input.
  • For hearing yourself live: Confirm that the recording device can route its mic input to the headphone output, either directly or through software.
  • For calls: Set the microphone and headphones as separate input and output devices if your computer or calling setup supports that arrangement.
  • For a noisy or mobile setting: Consider the manufacturer’s stated closed design and passive isolation, then check whether an on-ear fit works for the duration and environment of your session.
  • For long-term maintenance: Check current availability of replacement pads, headband padding, and cable in your region. Stock and spare-part availability can change.

Regional product details, availability, and package contents can change. Confirm the current listing for your country before buying, and check the manual for your actual recorder, camera, computer, interface, or mixer for its input and monitoring procedure.
