Christina Plemmenou says she built Tempo after finding existing time trackers either too complicated for her individual workflow or unappealing to use. Her target was simple: tap once and start tracking client and project hours. The result, as she describes it, is a deliberately narrow Android app—not a replacement for project management or invoicing software.
What made existing time trackers feel like the wrong fit?
Plemmenou, a technical project manager who tracks client hours, project phases, and billable work, says she wanted fewer choices between deciding to track time and actually starting a timer. She describes Toggl as “too powerful,” says Clockify felt similar, and felt Harvest was more oriented toward teams than her individual needs. She also found many time-tracker interfaces unattractive or dated. Those are her personal impressions, not an independent comparison or audit of the products.
Her complaint was less about whether other tools could track time than about friction in her own routine. When setup and choices felt like too much work, she says she was more likely to abandon tracking and lose clarity about billable hours. Her aim was a direct action: “tap a button, start tracking.”
What does Tempo include—and what does it leave out?
In her account, Tempo centers on starting and reviewing tracked time rather than managing a broader business workflow. She describes these features:

She says Tempo does not include project management, team collaboration, integrations, or invoicing. Those omissions are intentional scope choices in the story: the app tracks time, while other tools handle the rest. The article does not independently verify the app’s current features or availability, so treat this as a description of Tempo in Plemmenou’s account rather than a current product specification.
Who might find this approach useful?
Freelancers who bill by the hour
Plemmenou suggests freelancers could review recorded billable hours before preparing invoices. That is a proposed use, not evidence that Tempo improves billing accuracy or prevents missed hours. Because the app is described as lacking invoicing, users would still need a separate invoicing process.

How did Plemmenou build it?
Plemmenou says she built Tempo without writing code, using unspecified AI tools over “2–3 months.” That duration is her estimate for this project, not a typical development timeline. The account does not identify the tools, explain the technical workflow, or establish a release date.

Early testers pointed out issues and requested changes, including currency options for billable tracking and a clearer project-creation flow. Plemmenou says she made two rounds of fixes before public release. The number of testers and the testing method are not stated, so the account offers a practical lesson about iteration rather than a formal usability result.

The central design decision was what not to include. As Plemmenou puts it: “Adding features is easy. Deciding what not to build is the real work.” Tempo’s limited scope is presented as a response to her own needs, not proof that simpler software is always better. A solo freelancer who mainly needs a timer may value that focus; a team that relies on integrations, shared workflows, or built-in invoicing may need a broader tool.
She also says the first version was not the finished version: bugs, confusing user experience, and tester feedback prompted revisions. The available account does not name a particular AI product or provide evidence that AI alone made the app possible; it describes AI tools as part of her process without further detail.
