StudySaathi AI 2.0 is a locally run study companion that its creator, Meghana Bobbili, says she built around a friend’s need for simpler explanations, step-by-step help, and faster revision. The project combines a browser interface with a Flask backend, SQLite storage, and Ollama running llama3.2:latest. Its reported tools include explanations, quizzes, flashcards, study planning, and questions generated from notes—but the account describes a personal project, not an independently tested learning product.
Why Meghana Bobbili built StudySaathi
Bobbili frames the project around a practical question: “How can I make studying easier and more manageable for my friend?” The friend reportedly found English spellings and complicated concepts difficult, wanted more time to work through material step by step, and needed a convenient way to revise.
Rather than treating those needs as evidence about students in general, StudySaathi AI 2.0 is best understood as one developer’s response to a specific person’s study preferences. Bobbili says the friend tried it and found concepts and subjects easier to handle, with quick revision helpful. That is informal feedback from one person—not a controlled study or evidence of improved grades.

The project description presents StudySaathi as a collection of study activities rather than a single chat window. Students can ask for different forms of help and move between learning new material, practicing it, and reviewing it.

Explanations and spoken interaction
In Study Buddy, a student can type a question or use voice input, then ask for a beginner-friendly explanation, a step-by-step lesson, a real-world example, a 10-mark exam-style response, or a five-point revision summary. The author says the interface supports English, Telugu, and Hindi, along with audio readout and Mermaid diagrams or flowcharts.
Practice, flashcards, and planning

How the local AI architecture works
Bobbili describes the request path as Student → Browser → Flask → Local Ollama → Response → Browser. In this design, the browser provides the student-facing interface, the Flask server handles application requests, SQLite stores data, and Ollama is called when an AI response is needed. The project’s stated model is llama3.2:latest.

What the model-size figure does—and does not—tell you
Ollama’s model library lists the default llama3.2:latest text model at 2.0 GB and identifies Llama 3.2 text-only model sizes of 1B and 3B parameters. The 2.0 GB figure is the listed model download size, not a complete computer memory or hardware requirement. Ollama’s September 25, 2024 announcement explains that Llama 3.2 can be run with Ollama and gives ollama run llama3.2 as the start command. What running locally means for students
Bobbili says the local setup reduces reliance on a paid external AI API for the core AI experience and can keep educational interaction on the student’s computer when the model and suitable hardware are available. That is a design rationale, not a general privacy guarantee: the project account does not audit browser speech recognition, hosting, telemetry, or every data flow.

Local inference also makes the user’s computer part of the equation. The author notes that performance depends on available computer resources and that smaller local models may not match very large cloud models. The project description provides no minimum hardware specifications, response-time measurements, accuracy evaluation, or comparative tests, so it cannot establish which computers will run the app comfortably or how its answers compare with a cloud service.

Who StudySaathi may suit—and its limits
Based on the author’s feature description, StudySaathi is aimed at school and college students who want to vary how they study: ask for a simpler explanation, work through a topic in stages, turn notes into practice questions, or review with flashcards. Its local-model approach may also appeal to someone who wants the core AI interaction to avoid a paid external AI API, provided their computer can run the model.
It is not presented as a substitute for teachers or as a solution to every learning difficulty. The available account does not establish educational effectiveness, independent reliability, minimum system requirements, or a finished installation experience. Those distinctions matter: a thoughtful response to one friend’s needs can show why a project was built without proving that it will work equally well for every student.
