A Starlink referral works only when a first-time customer opens an existing subscriber’s unique referral link before ordering, buys the Starlink Kit and subscription directly through starlink.com, activates in the same country as the referrer, and stays on an eligible high-speed plan for two complete monthly billing cycles. The new customer then receives one free month, credited to the second monthly subscription invoice. The referrer’s reward is shown in their Starlink account and may be service credit or cash where that option is available.
Plan eligibility, reward value, payment method and availability are country-specific and can change. Check the offer displayed in the referrer’s account and the terms shown during signup before placing an order.

Who qualifies as a new Starlink subscriber?
The customer must be genuinely new
The referred person must be a first-time Starlink customer. Under the current SpaceX Referral Program Terms, someone who has subscribed previously does not qualify, even if the person is opening a new account or ordering at a different address. The referral is intended for a bona fide new subscriber rather than an account transfer or repeat activation.
The link must be used before the order
Referral tracking starts when the prospective customer opens the existing subscriber’s unique referral link. Opening the link after an order has already been placed cannot reliably attach the referral to that purchase. The safest sequence is to open the link first, continue into the official signup flow, and complete the order without switching to an unrelated session or checkout path.

The purchase must be direct
The qualifying Kit and subscription must be bought through starlink.com. A purchase from a retailer or reseller, or a transfer of someone else’s account, does not meet the current referral conditions. Because the referral is tied to the online signup flow, buying hardware elsewhere and attempting to add a subscription later can leave the order untracked.
The activation country must match
The new subscriber must activate in the same country as the referrer’s service address. A link shared across borders therefore may not qualify if the two accounts are registered or activated in different countries. Country rules also affect which plans and reward formats are available.
What a new subscriber must do
- Get the link from an active subscriber. Ask the referrer to send their authorized, unique Starlink referral link. Do not rely on a copied general homepage address or an old link whose destination is unclear.
- Open the link before ordering. Start the signup from that link so the referral can be associated with the prospective account.
- Choose the country and service address. Use the same country as the referrer’s Starlink service address, then review the plans offered for the location where the Kit will be activated.
- Order directly from starlink.com. Complete the Kit and subscription purchase in the referral-originated flow. Do not substitute a retailer purchase, reseller transaction or account transfer.
- Activate the Kit. Follow the normal Starlink activation process for the new account. The referral’s qualifying period starts with the activated subscription, not merely with receiving the hardware.
- Remain continuously subscribed for two full billing cycles. Keep an eligible high-speed plan active through two complete monthly billing cycles. Do not switch to Standby Mode during the required period, because Standby Mode is excluded from the minimum duration.
- Review the second invoice. The free month is applied to the second monthly subscription invoice when the referral remains eligible. Keep the account and billing records until the credit appears.

This list is not a guarantee that every plan will be offered in every location or at every signup. Starlink changes plan names and availability by market. The plan selector shown for the service address, together with the terms displayed in the active account, controls whether the chosen plan qualifies.
What the new subscriber receives
One free month, not an instant cash payment
The referred subscriber receives one free month of service on an eligible plan. The current terms specify that the credit is applied to the second monthly subscription invoice. It is therefore normal not to see the benefit at checkout or on the first invoice. The account must first complete the required qualifying period.
How the billing credit works
The credit applies to the eligible service plan selected by the new customer. It does not turn the hardware purchase into a free item, and it does not replace the requirement to pay any charges that are outside the subscription credit. Keep payment details current so the account can process the first invoice and remain active while the referral matures.

What the referrer receives
The amount is account-specific
The referrer’s Starlink account displays the reward amount associated with the current offer. The amount varies by country, so a figure shown to one subscriber is not a worldwide promise. Starlink’s help material uses US$100 as an example, but that example should not be treated as the amount for every market or account.
Service credit is the usual form
The reward is generally issued as service credit. Where the country and offer support it, the referrer may select cash instead. Cash availability is not universal and may require registration with, and good standing on, a third-party payment processor. If cash is not offered in the account, the referrer cannot assume that a service-credit reward can be converted later.
The referrer must remain eligible
The referring customer must be an active Starlink subscriber in good standing. Participation may be limited to consumer account types. The referrer also needs to keep an active high-speed plan while a referral is pending; canceling or suspending service can cancel pending referrals before they mature.

When is the reward issued?
Use billing cycles, not a universal 30-day promise
The current terms require two full monthly billing cycles on a qualifying high-speed plan. That requirement is different from saying “30 days” or “31 days,” because the exact calendar dates depend on the account’s billing date. A localized older help article has described a 31-day timeline and different plan details, but that language should not be applied universally. The current terms and the live account guidance take precedence.
Typical sequence
- The customer opens the referral link and places a qualifying direct order.
- The Kit is activated in the same country as the referrer.
- The customer remains on an eligible high-speed plan through the first complete monthly billing cycle.
- The customer completes the second complete monthly billing cycle.
- The new subscriber’s one-month credit is applied to the second monthly subscription invoice, while the referrer’s reward is issued according to the account’s country and reward settings.
SpaceX may issue, delay or withhold a reward when it determines that a referral is ineligible, fraudulent or abusive. The account’s status and the active terms are the best indicators of whether a pending referral has matured.
Common reasons a referral fails
- The person had Starlink before: Prior subscription history makes the customer ineligible under the new-customer requirement.
- The link was not used first: Ordering before opening the unique link can prevent referral attribution.
- The purchase was indirect: Retailer, reseller and account-transfer transactions do not qualify under the current terms.
- The countries do not match: Activation in a different country from the referrer’s service address can disqualify the referral.
- The plan is not eligible: A plan shown in another market, an older promotion or a plan omitted from the current signup offer may not count.
- The customer left the plan too soon: Cancellation, suspension or a move to Standby Mode before two full billing cycles breaks the duration requirement.
- The referrer lost good standing: The referrer’s account must remain active while the referral is pending.
- The activity looked abusive: SpaceX can cancel or withhold rewards for fraud, misleading conduct or other prohibited activity.
How to check the offer before placing an order
Because the amount and eligible plans are localized, both people should verify the live offer rather than rely on a screenshot or an old social-media post.

- Referrer: Sign in to the Starlink account and open the referral area. Record the displayed reward amount and whether the account offers service credit, cash or both.
- New customer: Confirm that you have never had a Starlink subscription and that your intended activation country matches the referrer’s country.
- Start from the unique link: Open it before visiting checkout and stay in the resulting signup flow.
- Check the plan list: Compare the plan name in the current signup page with the eligible options shown for your location. Do not assume that a plan available to the referrer is available to you.
- Read the checkout and account terms: Look for the stated qualifying period, invoice treatment and any country-specific conditions before submitting payment.
- Save evidence: Keep the referral message, order confirmation and invoices. These records help support a case if the second-invoice credit does not appear.
Practical examples
Example that follows the rules
A current subscriber sends a unique referral link to a friend in the same country. The friend opens the link, orders a Kit and an eligible Residential plan directly through starlink.com, activates it in that country, and stays on the plan for two full monthly billing cycles. The friend’s second monthly subscription invoice receives the one-month credit. The referrer sees the country-specific reward mature in the account after the qualifying period.
Example that does not qualify
A former Starlink customer buys hardware from a reseller, creates a new email address, and later adds service after receiving a referral link. The person is not a new customer, the purchase was not direct, and the referral link was not used before ordering. Those facts independently prevent the transaction from meeting the current conditions.
Rules for sharing a referral link
The referrer may share only the authorized unique link and must describe the offer honestly. The terms prohibit falsely claiming to be a Starlink employee, agent, reseller or affiliate. They also prohibit unsolicited contact without consent and paid advertising that directs traffic to a referral link or bids on Starlink or SpaceX brand terms. A referral reward is not an affiliate commission that can be earned from any untracked link; it is a conditional customer referral benefit governed by the account and the current program terms.
If the credit or reward is missing
The new customer does not see the free month
- Check whether the second monthly subscription invoice has actually been generated.
- Confirm that the account used the referral link before ordering and that the Kit was purchased directly through starlink.com.
- Verify the activation country, plan eligibility and completion of two full billing cycles.
- Check that the account did not enter Standby Mode, cancel or suspend service during the qualifying period.
- Review the billing page for a credit line rather than expecting a cash transfer.
The referrer does not see a reward
- Confirm that the referred person was a first-time customer and completed activation in the same country.
- Check the referrer’s account for a pending, delayed or canceled referral status.
- Make sure the referrer’s own service stayed active and in good standing.
- Review whether the account offers service credit or cash, and whether cash registration with the payment processor was completed when required.
- If all conditions are met, contact Starlink support with the referral record, order confirmation and billing dates.
What can change over time
Referral amounts, plan names, cash availability, country coverage and account interfaces are changeable program details. The two-full-billing-cycle requirement is the controlling duration in the current terms, while localized help pages may describe older or market-specific offers. Before every signup, rely on the active SpaceX Referral Program Terms and the offer displayed in the relevant Starlink account rather than a previously published amount or timeline.
